Lynx-therian here.

I've heard a lot of different ideas about why therians or otherkin are the way they are ranging from spiritual to different brain wiring to mental disorder.

Seriously, I don't think that anyone has it right yet because each person has a different reason for "why" they are. Each different theory might have a bit of truth in it and I don't think we will ever completely know.

For some people the spiritual reasoning works for them and that's fine. For others a more scientific approach seems best. Honestly, we could come up with a million different reasons why but you'd never get everyone in the community to agree because we are all different. And I think it's that diversity of ideas that keeps the therianthropic/otherkin community alive. It's a good thing so don't knock someone else's ideas simply because they don't mesh with yours. Instead embrace the fact that you're different and learn from it.

ok I have only read the frist page of this but I get the feeling like I heard all of this before?
the thing is all of the posts on page 1 sound sorta like the scientists off of Eureka lol. I'm sorta glad I joined this guild, sometimes it sorta just makes you laugh (it has nothing to do with the facts or the people its just the.... well I don't know the word for it lol.)

now, on topic.
I believe I might have been a otherkin in one of my past life, a Fox maybe of if from another plane a fox spirit, most likely the spirit. I just have this strong pull towards the world of the dead. Or I might have been an Occultist, i'm trying to learn more about my past lifes but so far, not much.
