I read some of the graphic novels long before seeing any of the anime.
The story is a wholesale rip off of the 1990 film La Femme Nikita, only with a cast of minors in the role.
Some of the politics are interesting, but the brainwashing is science fiction of the worst kind.

I liked the first series, nothing says japan like lolis with guns in Italy. I haven't had a chance to see the second series yet. It's a fun watch.
@floyd:
It's in fact a sci fi series. The girls are also cyborgs, there skeletons have been replaced with metal frames and are given augments as well.

Yeah, it's a pretty depressing show. Like I think it was episode three and Henrietta shot that boy that liked her because he saw her?
