Not necessarily. As I said before, some farmers are using the cow's manure as another source of engery which can help save them money.

Who says cows cause pollution? They make energy! mrgreen
I don't know that I believe that claim, but even if it's true, there's no way it generates a significant amount of energy; You wouldn't be able to make enough off of it to survive.

... without the meat industry, would cows go extinct? What would we do, let them loose in a forest? That would be awkward.

I lol'd at this mental image. I dunno...free pet cows for everyone! I'd teach it to use my garden as a litter box. whee I'd rather have pigs, though. I hear they're almost like dogs. (Except not as furry.)

Srsly, though, when you consider how much effort is put into breeding livestock, they'd die out pretty quickly.

Anyways, there is always going to be someone that is unhappy, you can kill animals in a humane why but people with still fight to stop eating meat. You can let animals live and people will dislike what people use milk and eggs. You can ban meat and people like to eat it. You can't please everyone.

I don't need to see it first hand to know and imagine what goes on in a slaughterhous. After all the name speaks for itself so it's hard not imagine what goes on.

I know a few things that goes on, some inhumane but it is probably too grahpic so I won't say. One has to do with kosher meat and the process making it kosher.

I thought Kosher just meant that only certain parts were used...

Edit- from the Wikipedia entry on Kosher (I know, not a great source, but still decent) said that they cut the throat deeply with a knife. They get pretty much everything in there, so it's pretty much the most humane way possible, with a knife at least. In fact, if they DON'T kill them this way, it's not Kosher.

From what I was told, they slit their throats and let them bleed to death in order to get it all out, which isn't humane to me. It's better if they killed them first before hand.

I think they die well before they bleed out. But yes, getting shot would probably be faster.

I wonder what kind of person works there.

lymelady
I giggled at the thought of wild cows in the forest. Then they got eaten by predators in my mind and I was sad.

*cows go prancing into the forest*
*cue orchestra swell* "Born freeeee, as free as..."
*enter wolf*
Wolf: "GRAAAHR!!"
Cow: "...moo?"
Wolf: "OM NOM NOM NOM..."

Hey, I giggled and I'm a vegetarian.

Would it be more likely that a cougar would eat it then a wolf?

It's possible... odd, though.

It reminds me of a commercial I saw recently. Apparently there's a factory that makes cleaning products that completely runs off of energy converted from the gases given off from a local land fill.

Umm.... how is killing a baby the same as killing animals? I mean, at least the animals are killed for a purpose, and have some time living, we don't butcher them in the womb, before they can grow, and mate, and live a long enough life. Besides, veggies are nasty ><

Ectopic pregnancy. It's not really a GREAT thing, but it's certainly justifiable.

Agreed; In ectopic pregnancies, not only is the mother's life in danger, but the baby has no chance of survival either.
