Oh my! thought Alexia. She squealed on the inside. How had she been lucky enough to find this guy?!? But, no. She wouldn't get ahead of herself. And hopefully Alexia wouldn't put her foot in her mouth either... "Really?" she asked Mermac. "You mean, you don't have any kids of your own yet?" Well, duh! she thought. If he had the free time they had mentioned it was kind of obvious that he probably didn't have children. Alexia felt like an idiot, having stated such, and blushed.

Mermac certainly didn't say anything about the slight 'duh' nature of Alexia's inquiry. Rather, he only shrugged before shaking his head. "Nah, none of my own to speak of yet. Closest I have to kids is the ones I babysit now and then for some of the other waywards I live with..."

"That's great... About the babysitting, I mean" she said. "The parents must love you... But I'll bet the children love you more if you're as good with them as you have been with Hidaka so far." Alexia patted the back of her daughter who had just started to yawn. Then Alexia thought of something. "You said you have nothing to do with your free time. What about your hobbies? There's got to be something you enjoy doing with your spare time. I like to play games. All kinds of games. That is, if anyone would play with me... I think Ane's scared of me, and well, I don't know the others in my family well enough yet..." Alexia trailed off. And blushed again, realizing that now she was so nervous she was babbling. Crap, Mermac was going to think she was a certified idiot if this went on.

But Mermac never once said anything regarding the way Alexia would babble or ask obvious questions. He would simply roll with it, continuing on with his rhythm unbroken. "I don't really have any hobbies, actually..." He paused for a few moments as though considering it before shrugging. "I suppose the closest thing I do have to a hobby is watching and playing with the kids. Or maybe reading."

Alexia stopped herself from asking this very nice fox if he wanted to have kids with her and take care of her and them for the rest of their lives. But only just barely. Her heart was beating very fast. Even thinking it had made her blush and she hoped Mermac hadn't seen it. To keep things on a safer topic she asked, "Soooo, what do you like to read?"

Mermac let his fingers lace together, hands loosely connected behind his back as he walked alongside Alexia. His gaze was more ahead of them than on the fox beside him, but that was mostly because it seemed rather awkward to him to walk one way while looking in a completely different direction in order to face the person he was talking too. It would just seem silly to walk sideways also. "Whatever I happen across, really. I have taken a liking to plays, however."

Alexia glanced sideways at Mermac. He had his eyes straight forward. That was good in one way at least; it meant he hadn't seen her blush. "Ummm..." Alexia started hesitantly. "I know this might sound strange, as we've really just met... But would you mind going with me to get something for Hidaka for her birthday? It's coming up soon and..." Here she giggled nervously. "I'm a bad decision maker. And though Ane will watch her for me, there's no Ane will go shopping with me. I need some help." Alexia slowed, as she was almost to the main building.

Unlacing his fingers, he let one hand fall to his side while the other lifted to tap one finger absently against his lips. It sounded like an interesting enough way to pass the time... and it wasn't as though he had anything else planned for any time soon. "Hmm..." he murmured. Well... on top of it all, Alexia was a nice girl, and if she needed the help... "Well, I don't see any reason why I couldn't go with you and offer you some help."

Alexia sighed in relief. "Thanks Mermac. It'll be nice to have some one other than Manju to shop with since he's no help at all. How about tomorrow?" She stopped as she reached the door of the main building.

"It's no problem," the fox assured with a small smile, finding himself stopping as well when he came to the main building. "I could easily meet you here, but what time would be best for you?"
