Last week I was watching TV and I saw a commercial advertising that if you buy cars from chrysler, dodge or jeep you will only have to pay 2.99 a gallon for the next three years, no matter if you are buying E85 or even diesel. it also doesn't matter what model you buy, grand cherokee to viper. as i do not watch tv very often i don't know how long this commercial has been running, but it came as quite a shock to me. i have always liked the three car manufacturers listed above well enough. if i was the type of person who would ever buy a car i might even buy from one of them (a couple years ago i was particularly fond of the chrysler 300). the whole thing seemed desperate and horrible to me. of course consumers are now more aware of fuel emissions than they have ever been, leading them to buy more efficient cars; and in general the japanese companies are much better at providing these for them. one would expect the american manufacturers to step their game up and also make environmentally friendly cars, but this is quite the opposite. the way i see it they are encouraging consumers to buy more gas and completely disregarding the environment. and who is paying for the remainder of the gas bill? could these companies really be so desperate as to take out of their own pocket? yes, they could. and they are. i personally hope that this 'deal' drives chrysler and the others into bankruptcy. also, maybe once the three years are over and gas costs much more, (maybe six or seven dollars) the people who were first won over by this offer will no longer be able to fit the price of gas into their budget and be forced to make better decisions. i don't know how in touch with reality i am, whether other companies are also doing this i don't know, but i would like to hear your thoughts.

Yes, I heard about that and got very irritated as well. WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF DIESEL. GET OVER IT and just MAYBE try to manufacture a more gas-efficient car! I'm glad Japanese auto companies are doing it. But you'd think the American car industry would, as you say, "step up their game" and just TRY to build more efficient vehicles. stare

What i don't understand is why america has some of the best scientists and we can't come up with a environmentally friendly car stressed and even the hybrids aren't entirely environmental because of their batteries, their is no real safe way to dispose of them. And Everyone is complaining about high gas prices and global warming but no one is doing anything. If you ask me the president should pass a law that it would be illegal for machines to run off fossil fuels.

that would be great! what better way to get people to be more efficient than forcing them into it? i love it.

Sure some people will think about their wallet with the whole $2.99 thing, but it doesn't save the earth. I want something better than that. An electric car is a start. That or maybe a compressed air car. I know there's drawbacks to even these, but it's a start.
