Samyule was about to respond to Colin before following Rosie's gesture. He peeked up over Colin's shoulder, eying the young man who had just made an appearance. "tch...he's that guy who was with Verdi when she died. Poor kid. Hasn't been getting a break from the others. They've been whispering about him in the dorms."

Without waiting for the others' permission, he stood and loudly called over their heads. "Hey! you! come over here and sit with us! We've got room for one more." Samyule simply shrugged as he earned questioning glances from his companions. He never had been one for beating around the bush.

Colin inexplicably burst into laughter, waving his hand at Rosies look, while Ella sighed, and dropped her face into her hand with an barely concealed smile.
" Yes we can see that, but I think his headphones may be up too loud..Shall I?" Also without waiting for permission, Ella stood and gracefully swept over to the table, fiddling with her necklace as she did.

Meanwhile, Colin recovered from his giggle fit, looking over his friends with an unexpected wave of compassion.
" I love you guys." He grinned and hugged Rosie, before throwing a shrewd look at Yule.
" I'd hug you too, but you know..I'll leave that to Ella."

Rosie hugged him back with enthusiasm. It had been three months since they first started going out, and already he meant the world to her. She wished she could break down that wall that kept her from screaming out how much she cared for him, but it was still standing there, stronger than ever. What was she so afraid of?

Well, three words she was terrified of. But they could wait just a bit longer, right? Colin hadn't even said anything... and she was forcing herself to be alright with that.

Rosie watched as Ella went towards the boy, but said nothing to approve or disapprove of it.

Even the Eagles couldn't block out Samyule's shouting, but Gerald didn't look up right away. At first, it didn't occur to him that he might actually be the 'you' to whom the other boy referred, and then, when it did, he purposely kept acting as though he hadn't heard. He didn't feel up to conversation this morning.

Unfortunately, fate didn't seem to be giving him much of an option. He felt someone walk up behind him, and soon, a girl was standing next to his table, obviously intent on speaking to him. She was petite and fair, with long dark hair that cascaded over her shoulders in loose waves. Gerald thought she looked vaguely familiar, but he couldn't quite place her name. She fidgeted a bit, perhaps hesitant about interrupting him. The way he was staring at her in silence probably wasn't helping. He sighed and reached down to pause his music but did not bother to take off his headphones.

"Can I help you?" he asked, his voice a bit rough from disuse.

((Edit: Got work in the morning, so I must be off... catch up with you guys tomorrow. <3))

Ella flushed, messing with her necklace.
" Well, it isn't exactly the best day to be sitting by oneself, so we"-she jutted a thumb over her shoulder-" were wondering if you would like to share our company." She shut her eyes for a moment and let out a nervous chuckle.
" What I mean to say is, would you like to sit with us? You can refuse of course, but the offer is readily open." It was somewhat tactful for her to mention his refusal, as with any person, it would seem rude to do so after she'd said it.
" We won't ask you any untoward questions or anything, I promise." She punctuated the statement with an easy, amiable smile.

So, morbid curiosity hadn't brought her over to him... what then? Pity? Gerald made sure the reactive frown didn't reach his face. Despite the way she was blushing and fidgeting with the star pendant on her necklace, the girl had a natural confidence about her. Gerald turned his head to glance at the others. He was certain he'd seen all of them around campus before. Their table had an aura of carefree charisma about it with little trace of nervousness. 'A' crowd material, he decided. Pausing, he considered the ramifications. His social status at the moment was pretty much nonexistent. The way things had been going lately, the only position he was in the running for was 'class outcast'. Logic told him these really weren't the sort of people he could afford to be snubbing, no matter how tired he might be. He kicked himself into gear.

"I'd like that," he lied, pushing his headphones down to hang around his neck. After he rose and grabbed his tray, he let her lead the way back to her table.

He had only a moment to review everything so far and try to get himself prepared to deal with people, but he got distracted by a sudden realization. The necklace the girl was wearing, it wasn't a star. It was a pentagram. Worn that way, it served as a symbol of faith or a talisman, an occult version of the Christian crucifix. He couldn't help but wonder if she had always worn it or only started after the Winter Ball.

Samyule shifted so Gerald could join them without feeling either too far away from everyone or too close to people he didn't know. Deciding that the easiest way to break the ice would be to introduce everyone, he pointed at everyone in turn. "You've just met Ella, that's Colin and Rosie, and I'm Samyule."

Finally getting the chance to answer Colin's previous statement, he said "Insane I may be, but believe me when I say that it wasn't I who scheduled that class. I have a meddling family member who insists that I have nothing better to do than to than study." He rolled his eyes dramatically as he speared a sausage.

Rosie gave a gentle sort of smile to Gerald as he sat down and made himself as comfortable as he was going to get. Whether he noticed or not, her eyes were doing a quick scan, assessing just who this guy was. She had heard of him as the one who had seen the girl die... but she wasn't about to ask any of those questions. That'd be rude, which was something Rosie was trying to break herself of.

First things first. Rosie saw that he looked tired... Pale. Almost like he hadn't been sleeping, something she could pick up on because she looked about the same. Probably from the stress of loss, she reasoned. His uniform was out of sorts here and there in very small ways as well... But no one really cared about their appearance much after the confusion they all went through. She could give him a break of sorts for that. Still. Rosie wasn't sure how to bring him in when Gerald had obviously been biding his time on making friends.

Come to think of it, she had never seen him with anyone else besides Verdi...

While the rest of them remained silent, Ella retreated to some of her most basic knowledge of courtesy. She pulled a small cup from the caddy and gestured towards the teapot.
" Tea?" She punctuated the question with a smile, much like the one she had worn before.
" I'm not so fond of teabags myself, but they'll do the trick."

Colin surreptitiously rolled his eyes.

((Happy Birthday, Gleesh! ^_^))

He did his best to focus and remember everyone's names, glancing at them each in turn. Samyule made a show of accepting him to the table, but Colin and, especially, Rosie seemed more reserved. Gerald tried to seem calm and unintimidated.

"Yes, thank you." He accepted the cup Ella handed him and glanced around. If he didn't do something, there was going to be an awkward silence. This probably hadn't been a great idea... but it was better than the alternative. Latching on the the one bit of their conversation he had heard, Gerald turned toward Samyule. "Tough class?"

"Beyond" Samyule replied with a sigh. He'd polished off the waffles quickly and was now moving on to the other bits of his breakfast. "It's the kind of class that makes you wish you were dea-"

He had almost completed a sentence he knew he would regret, and despite his natural slip, he couldn't help but feel a little awkward. "yeah, it's tough," he finished lamely. He was a little ashamed that he would forget Gerald's circumstances so quickly.

Rosie cringed right before Yule caught himself. Maybe it was just her, but when people spoke in front of someone they didn't know, she was always cringing in some way. Rosie wondered at Ella's sometimes over-the-top weirdness, Danni's endless ability to charm men, the group's ability to be incredible loud... She had to stop herself right there. Colin never made her cringe. Rosie was always finding herself the odd man out with the females simply because she wasn't willing to let go and just be like they could.

Really, she should have been cringing at herself and not Yule or Gerald's situation with her friends.

"SO, any plans, you guys? Things get dull around here fast if we're not careful."
It was a pained attempt at normal conversation, something Gerald could hopefully pick up on and just run with before things slipped into silence.

Both Ella and Colin shook their heads.
" Nothing for either of us it seems." Colin commented, before taking a spoonful of his cereal and a sip of juice after that.
" I'm really the kind of person who enjoys spontaneity, within reason of course, but if you lot think of anything, I'd be happy to join in." Ella sent Gerald an encouraging smile, then looked about her peers for suggestion.

((Ahh, eaten by real life! My apologies, folks. -_-; ))

Gerald felt a wash of annoyance that bordered on the suffusive, directionless anger that had been plaguing him lately. He hated the way people treated him lately... like he was somehow fragile and breakable. Still, he tried to shove the anger away and keep focused on the conversation. Just ignore it; act normal. This really hadn't been a good idea.

Unfortunately, he didn't have much to add to the mix. All of his time was spent fighting through classes and avoiding or ignoring his classmates. Might as well be half-truthful and try to lighten the mood. "Afraid lately most of my 'big plans' involve classes and the library," he murmured. Scanning the table for agreement, Gerald continued to push around the food on his plate so it would look as though he were making an effort to eat.

Ella smiled, filling up his cup of tea with gratuitous amounts of honey in a motherly sort of way that was very hard to refuse.
" That's always good. Winter is a quiet sort of season; I guess it's to be expected that none of us have much to do." She set the honeycomb back in the jar and stuck the tip of her finger in her mouth to get some of the honey that had strayed before beginning to pick at her food again.
