Yes...a new story. I actually got inspired on a rainy day and started writing this story. I was also listening to Regina Spektor...hence the name of the leading lady. smile
I know some of it is kind of crappy...I was writing this in my journal whenever I got bored. I need to rewrite bits of it.
So for now...here's the first part:
A lilting melody plays on the chimes as the rain softly falls. The raindrops pick out a hauntingly familiar melody, as though someone directed them in the fashion in which they fell. Most people would suppose that it was just rain and nothing more than that. Others would note the song and become enchanted with it, remembering how the world once was. For these ones had once been known as the Rain Makers.
Regina was one of them. As she stared out on the down pour, frustration mounting from not being able to use her gift, she wondered what the real reason was behind the Rain Makers’ gifts being banned. Most uneducated people feared them and ignorantly called them weather witches and speculated that they could withhold rain from those who angered them. Yet could that have been enough to outlaw them? Regina wasn’t really sure but knew she’d most likely find out soon enough.
There had been a summons for all the Rain Makers to gather in the King’s Castle, only a few days away. Regina rather looked forward to it believing the king had a rain song to commission from them for some grand occasion. She would be attending, she hoped, as soon as she completed the tasks her master had set out for her to do for the week.
Regina sighed and reluctantly made her self move away from the window to begin her tasks. If she didn’t get a head start she wouldn’t be allowed to go and she couldn’t knowingly allow that to happen. The summons was the only exciting thing that had ever happened to her and she wasn’t going to pass the chance of seeing the castle.

Regina stared out at the heightening storm, her heart falling into despair. The other Rain Makers would already be there before the king while she was stuck inside her master’s home away from all the hubbub and excitement. Her thoughts turned black when Thomas came into the room, a beaming smile on his face as he stared up at her.
Regina would have been able to go to the event if Thomas, her master’s son hadn’t spoiled her plans. After she had meticulously cleaned the entire house from top to bottom and had created the grand masterpiece cake for Thomas’ naming day, he had ruined everything. He had unleashed his new pet monik which had quickly destroyed all the cleanliness of the house. Then before Thomas or she could catch it, the monik had gotten into the kitchen and had dug it’s grubby scaled fingers into the cake eating as much as it could. After that, it had redecorated the kitchen by flinging pieces of cake and frosting all over the walls, floor, chandelier, you name it, it got covered. Thomas had waited until the monik got tired from it’s escapade and then had rushed in, grabbed the monik and then locked it back in it’s cage.
Of course Thomas hadn’t helped clean up any of the mess so Regina was left to do all the work. Her master had come in only moments later and had gone red in the face at the destruction and mess in the house and kitchen. With a brusque tone he had ordered Regina to re-clean the house from top to bottom and had taken away her privileges for the entire month. Regina had started to object and tell him that it had been none of her doing only for the master to tell her not to make any excuses or argue with him or he’d make it two months without any privileges. Then he had left the room with a dark scowl on his face. Which Regina knew would stay there for the rest of the week whenever he saw her.
Regina stared down at Thomas wishing she could wipe the goofy grin off of his face and reduce him to crying or better yet a fearful fool. If only that were a possibility, she thought rather darkly.
“Hey Regina, guess what?” Thomas asked, as he took a seat at the counter and digging into an apple with zeal.
“What Thomas?” She asked rather sharply, walking over to the stove to stir the soup she was making for dinner.
“My dad said the King made a new decree about the Rain Makers. If they’re caught using their powers they will be put to death, and all the Rain Makers are supposed to register so everyone knows who they are. It seems kind of mean to me. Just because they can make it rain or not, they shouldn’t be thought of as criminals. Dad doesn’t think so though. He says it’s a good thing.” Thomas said.
“He would.” Regina muttered, making sure not to show any alarm as she walked over to the counter and sat down next to Thomas.
“Regina, I’m really sorry about what Harry did yesterday. I didn’t think he’d be able to get out of the leash.”
“Harry? You named a scaled creature Harry? That’s kind of ironic.” Regina commented.
“I hadn’t thought about that.” Thomas mused. “So you’re not mad at me then?”
“Not anymore. Next time he gets out and makes a mess, you’re going to be in charge of the clean up, and if your father objects that’s his problem.”
“Alright, sorry I didn’t help yesterday; I had to finish a project for school. You know how dad gets when I don’t finish schoolwork on time.”
“Yes I do. Now run along, I’ve got things to work on in here and I’d rather you weren’t in the way.” Regina said standing up again and grabbing ingredients to make a pie.
Thomas shot her a smile and then ran from the room. Once he was gone, Regina slumped into a kitchen chair still in shock. She hadn’t expected anything like this to happen. She was also at the same time rather relieved that she hadn’t been able to go with the others. Who knew what had really happened to the Rain Makers that had answered the King’s summons? Regina couldn’t imagine the horrors that they might have gone through. And now, much to her annoyance and amusement she had Thomas and Harry to thank for possibly saving her life. Perhaps he wasn’t as bad as she had thought him to be. With that thought ringing through her head, she got up and began to mix her ingredients together for the pie crust. She was definitely going to have to be more careful than she had in the past.
note: Meh...I switch around too often. My dialogue is weak, and I really need to fix the beginning. Anything else I need to fix? I'm not going to edit it until I get everything I have written typed up.
