Daydreams
Studies show that we all have the tendency to daydream an average of 70-120 minutes a day. Day dreaming is classified as a level of consciousness between sleep and wakefulness. It occurs during our waking hours when we let our imagination carry us away. As our minds begin to wander and our level of awareness decreases, we lose ourselves in our imagined scenario and fantasy.
Lucid Dreams
Lucid dreams occurs when you realize you are dreaming. "Wait a second. This is only a dream!" Most dreamers wake themselves up once they realize that they are only dreaming. Other dreamers have cultivated the skill to remain in the lucid state of dreaming. They become an active participant in their own dreams, making decisions in their dreams and influencing the dream's outcome without awakening.
Nightmares
A nightmare is a disturbing dream that causes the dreamer to wake up feeling anxious and frightened. Nightmares may be a response to real life trauma and situations. These type of nightmares fall under a special category called Post-traumatic Stress Nightmare (PSN). Nightmares may also occur because we have ignored or refused to accept a particular life situation. Research shows that most people who have regular nightmares have had a family history of psychiatric problems, bad drug experiences, people who have contemplated suicide, and/or rocky relationships. Nightmares are an indication of a fear that needs to be acknowledged and confronted. It is a way for our subconscious to make up take notice. "Pay attention!"
Recurring Dreams
Recurring dreams repeat themselves with little variation in story or theme. These dreams may be positive, but most often they are nightmarish in content. Dreams may recur because a conflict depicted in the dream remains unresolved or ignored. Once you have found a resolution to the problem, your recurring dreams will cease.
Healing Dreams
Healing dreams serve as messages for the dreamer in regards to their health. Many dream experts believe that dreams can help us avoid potential health problems and help us to heal when we are ill. Our bodies are able to communicate to us through our dreams to "tell" us that something is not quite right with our bodies even before any physical symptoms show up. Dreams of this nature may be telling the dreamer that he/she needs to go to the dentist or doctor.
Prophetic Dreams
Prophetic dreams, also referred to as precognitive or psychic dreams, are dreams that seemingly foretell the future. One rational theory to explain this phenomenon is that our dreaming mind is able to piece together bits of information and observation that we normally overlook or that we do not seriously consider. In other words, our unconscious mind knows what is coming before we consciously piece together the same information.
Signal Dreams
Signal dreams help you how to solve problems or make decisions in your waking life.
Epic Dreams
Epic dreams (also known as Great Dreams or Cosmic Dreams) are so huge, so compelling, and so vivid that you cannot ignore them. The details of such dreams remain with you for years, as if your dreamt it last night. These dreams possess much beauty and contain many archetypal symbology. When you wake up from such a dream, you feel that you have discovered something profound or amazing about yourself or about the world. It feels like a life-changing experience.

Lately, I've been experiencing lucid dreams. I'd wake up one nice Sunday, from a wonderful dream and think,"I don't wanna leave this dream, not right now..." And I'd drift off to sleep again, but I feel like I can make decisions and stuff. Makes the dream much more wonderful. mrgreen I wonder if that's a special skill dreamers develop. mrgreen mrgreen mrgreen

I once had one of a guy that i hadn't met yet at a place i hadn't ever been then it happened and i just sat there stunned going a bit nuts wondering if i'm schitso like my mom... redface sweatdrop confused

My normal dreams revolve around me either walking through a store, a warehouse, a school, or fairly populated public place.
Common places in my dreams are my neighborhood, local cities, etc. But the buildings will be very different. Also, I've been having a fair few dreams about being at a giant lake that is kinda like a water park for some reason.
Also, I have dreams of places one would see in videogames. As a matter of fact, most non-nightmare, videogame-like dreams feature Zelda-esque dungeons. My personal interpretations of Forest Temple and Shadow Temple or something like that.
My nightmares involve either zombies, cult people, government agents, or something huge trying to kill me. I used to have robot nightmares but they rarely occur. Other nightmares consist of wounds, gashes, or teeth faling out. Also, another very common nightmare for me is riding in a car and either the driver disappears or the car just wrecks unexpectedly.

Wah~ I kind of envy the lucid dreamers. :') It's more of a talent than something you can work at, I think. But those people who can are amazing! I believe that it would be fun to be more in control of your dreams.
But then again, I always find it interesting to find out how I react in dreams. My reactions are so different! It's kind of like a reality check for me, because I know what I want to do, but most of the time in dreams, they show what I actually will do.
Just keeps me grounded. : )

Hello everyone! lol
I just read through the first post. Very well written. Honestly, I've had at least one of each type of those dreams... Usually I find an exception but I can't really.
Recently I've been keeping a Dream Journal. Every night before bed I do a short meditation to kind of set an internal mood that'll help me remember them better. And every morning when I wake up I jot down the important details about the dreams I remember. I've noticed that since I've started it there's been a strange pattern to them. Kinda creepy, right? =P

Ugh, I'm scared to death of lucid dreams now. Apparently if you're not careful in them, you can end up in the highest point of dreams, Limbo. This is where you basically think that you've woken up, and you live your life as normal, but you're still in a dream (not to be mistaken for another type of lucid dream, in which you wake up immediately once the dream starts and it is almost identical to what the stature would be if you were to wake up irl....though these ones arent fun either =p). The day span in the Limbo dream world occurs in equality to the real world, so you're pretty much in a comatose state until you realize that you're asleep and you awaken.
The death theory (die in a dream = die in real life) comes from this phenomena, because your mind and body is now connected to this dream realm. So pretty much when you die in the dream realm, your bodily functions (particularly your brain) stop and die as well.
There are a few theories that lead to this occurence, all connected to lucid dreams. One of the most common ones is when you dream jump while you're in a lucid dream (anyone see that spongebob episode where he was dream jumping the entire 15 mins? He was basically in a varient form of limbo.) Another version (I've only read it in a book once, so its uncommon) is that if you physically open doors in a dream. Personally, I find it not exactly correct, because it seems that in most forms of dreams (especially lucid) doors do not seem to exist unless you don't have the intent of entering it (I remember the mass majority of my dreams...all of which don't seem to have any doors that end up used unless you go to use it and its locked.)
Oh well. Good news is that the more I think about lucid dreams, the less I seem to have them ^.^
...wow, guess this is a dead thread isn't it? oh well =p
