I've noticed a lot of the characters, especially the bad guys, have demonic horns, romani glasses, nightmare sashes, demonic pitchfork, and so on.....

What is the point of paying guards if they die easily? > 3>
At least it will keep your enemies distracted for a minute or less.
Depending on who are actually fighting against.
