Would Sentinels ever consider using/making crude furniture? Specifically for food storage or the like.

Quote:
Since larger objects would be prohibitively difficult to move from tree to tree, most 'furniture' would be of the built-in variety. As in, a few crude shelves cut into the wall of the tree, a hollow for storing items, etc. Baskets would also be popular, since they can be hung from nearby branches. It's possible that some Sentinels would bring smaller pieces of wood up to their trees to make shelves and other storage things like that - simple boxes would probably be the most complex furniture they'd use.

So, I don't really know the mechanics of Sentinel reproduction, and that's not really what I'm asking about... I'm just asking about one specific instance. Could an unplanned pregnancy happen? Like, if a young pair of rangers settled down together, then decided to wait a bit for eggs... only, the waiting didn't work.

Quote:
In general, Sentinels would not engage in sexual relations unless they intended to have eggs. They don't have any form of contraceptives (nor would they even see the need for such a thing). So in most cases if a young pair didn't want to have eggs, they just wouldn't do the deed. It is possible to get caught up in the heat of the moment, etc., but that'd be fairly irresponsible!

1.) Sentinels use their Will to manipulate things. If a Sentinel was angry at someone, could they use their Will to shove someone away, like someone shoves with their hands?

Quote:
In theory, yes. A Sentinel's Will is an analogue for hands, so anything you can do with your hands, they can do with their Will. However, there is a fairly strong taboo against using Will to touch another Sentinel without their consent. That sort of thing would be a last resort. And remember that most combatants are fairly weak-Willed!

2.) If a Sentinel hated someone enough, how would they 'swing' at a person, like how we punch in fights or slap someone? Would they just use their talons or beat their wings at them?

Quote:
Wings are soft and made of feathers, talons are sharp and made of... talons. xD So a Sentinel would use their talons, not their wings. Wings are not used like arms or hands.

3.) You mentioned once that Sentinels usually don't care about other Sentinel's family problems. Would it be seen as bad for a Sentinel to fight with their family?

Quote:
As we said, fighting with family isn't something that the rest of Sentinel society would get any more involved in than a fight between any two Sentinels. The members of a family fight might be subject to a little more gossip, but it would depend on the circumstances, the individuals, the witnesses, etc. There are too many variables in a situation like that to set any hard and fast rules.

4.) If a Sentinel comes uninvited to another Sentinel's territory, could they demand them to leave?

Quote:
They weren't invited, so of course they could ask the uninvited Sentinel to leave.

5.) How far can a Sentinel fight with another Sentinel if they were angry enough before other Sentinels would think they went too far?

Quote:
It would depend on the situation. In general, try to think about stuff like this in terms relative to our society. So if I swear at you and you punch me, that's too far. If I punch you and you pull a knife on me, that's too far. If I pull a knife on you, and you pull a gun on me, that's too far. If I start to fight you, and you and your three friends start to--- get the idea?

HAI GAIZ ~~~

I've got a quick question. We know already that sentinels do not really have a concept of the afterlife like we do, they believe in Noctus and they return to Noctus...

But would they, in a sense, have a concept of a reaper? Perhaps a sentinel spirit that greets them as they die? -for some reason has the Black Rabbit of Inlé on her mind-

Quote:
No reaper figure, no, so there's no black rabbit-like spirit. XD There is a minor god of Death, which will be described when we have the time to develop the religion of Noctua a bit more fully.

Thanks! Hmmm, their religion will definitely be interesting! <3

I need somebody to extrapolate for me about Aberrants. :I

First, on the subject of genetic anomalies - when a sentinel sees an Aberrant like Odd or Dodger for the first time, what's the situation? Is the 'white sickness' a part of every sentinel's formal education, or is it a folktale that gossipy sentinels tell, or a condition good enough for bards to play with? Or is it really unknown and untaught until an Aberrant shows up in the area?

Actually...I think I either forgot or solved my question about cross-types. Heyo. Maybe I could just ask what the common canned responses are of sentinels who are against cross-type relations would be.

Quote:
The best analogy for how the freaks would be treated/thought of would be to consider general sentiment about albinos during the dark ages. At best they became jesters or something that was displayed in a sideshow-like setting. At worst, they were called witches or demons and stoned to death. I'm making gross generalizations here, but you get the idea.

The 'white sickness' is something that has gotten a lot of beak-time recently since Odd and Dodger are both alive and kicking, but there's no official name for it or description of the illness, etc. I'd say it's more like a folktale and gossip fodder. Actually, it'd be really interesting to have some sort of bard song/story about how the first all-white or patchy Sentinels came to be... hm.

As for cross-type stuff, hm. Many Sentinels would probably assume that things like the white patches could be due to impure blood, and they'd say the same about dead-in-shell eggs and other such problems. So the basic reason that most Sentinels have to be against cross-type pairings is the belief (as erroneous as it might be) that the offspring will be inherently weaker. Most slurs would have to do with being impure, weak, etc. Sentinels are pretty creative when it comes to cussing, so feel free to explore the possibilities!

Just out of curiosity... Would a latin plant/animal name be considered a traditional name or a nonsense name to Sentinels?

Say I named my Sentinel after a genus or family of trees. Let's just say I had picked the name Betula for Birch instead.

Would the regular Sentinel think:
"Ah, a nice traditional tree-name" or "Pssh, his parents must have been Artisans or something."

And how about naming someone after obscure plants and animals that don't have a common name and just goes by their latin name?

Quote:
Hm, good question - especially considering that the companion names (and even the name of the forest/their gods) are all derived from Latin words. So, to make things easier for us in general... let's say that Latin is to the Sentinel language much the same thing as it is to English. That is, it is at the root of our language and bits of it are still used to this day. The average Sentinel wouldn't know that Betula = Birch any more than the average human would, but Apothecaries, Medics, and some of those with an interest in more obscure lore might.
