My bookmark is rather homemade.
I use a long piece of ribbon, It's like an inch wide.
I somehow punched a hole through the top and bottom, and tied mini ribbons through the top and bottom, then put beads on that. Its like a pink and green color scheme. Cute <3

Normally I go by page numbers, but I have several book marks: a gold Chinese pendent, a Megatokyo bookmark, a book mark with the Read poem on it, and a pokemon card.

I don't really use bookmarks or note down the page number. As soon as I open the book up I'm either on the page or just a few turns away.

I usually use scraps of paper or just remember what page I was on. I only own two bookmarks; a cute one with a puppy that reads, "Read later, love me now!" and a metal one with the quote, "Never never never quit - Winston Churchill." I don't use either because I'm afraid of loosing them.

I've gotten quite a few bookmarks since I last posted in this thread two years ago (wow!). And my gotten I really mean found, haha. I have a BEAUTIFUL Harry Potter one that's rectangular but fatter than average and depicts the scene in Prisoner of Azkaban where Sirius creeps out of the shadows in the shrieking shack. Also, with the truck edition of the first 5 HP movies came a box of a few metal bookmarks that are harry potter objects. I also a plush cow bookmark, a couple various anime bookmarks, and one made of recycled paper that's a water color cherry blossom tree.
...I still use strips of paper. sweatdrop

I work at a used bookstore and people leave them in books so I collect found bookmarks. My favorites are a metal one with a train cut out, and a pretty one with a quote. "All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream. -Edgar Allen Poe.
Usually though I just use a candy wrapper, I can always find one of those! (candy fiend.)

I usually draw my bookmarks...my favorite is my Link from Legend of Zelda one...also I've made an Allen Walker from D.Gray-man...but in desperate times where I can't use them I just grab an index card or something...

I'm currently using a nice fabric one some family member of mine bought me ages ago. It's got Nessie on it. I'm also considering buying one of these. Specifically the I aten't read one.

I don't even use a bookmark.
...or a "dog ear" or a flap from the jacket.
My mind... I remember everything that is of no consequence and nothing that is of consequence... So I always know what page I was on. I can tell you right now, Brisingr, which has no bookmark and is in my room, I'm on page 406.
...well, for books I like.
For books I don't like, I draw Miles Tainess on a folded piece of paper.
(Miles Tainess is my RP character and the main character in The Elementalist (my book).)

I used to use actual bookmarks - I had a fondness for the ones with pictures on them and those little cords that hang off the top. Yeah, I had a lot of those.
Then for some reason, I stopped liking them and switched [back] to using library check-out receipts. I discovered that I enjoyed using them for as long as humanly possible (there was one time where the writing had entirely faded off the one I was using by its demise. It lasted more than a few months). I'd fold them in half a bunch of times, and they worked great.
The next phase involved no bookmark at all. I'd just mentally note the page I was on, and then when I next opened the book I'd remember either the page or, if I forgot that, the part of the story I was on, and I'd flip through until I found where I left off.
I started using random things lying around a few weeks ago. I used a card given to me by a relative for a little while, as an example. For the past few days, I've been using a ticket stub from a recent train ride. That will probably last until I lose it, and then I'll just have to see what I decide to do next.

I used to have a ton of anime/manga bookmarks that I took from tables at past conventions, but I think I lost most of them.
As of now I have a red cloth bookmark with the Japanese symbol for love stamped on it, and that's resting in my 'Memoirs of a Geisha' book. I'm currently using a bookmark I bought from Versailles--it's a picture of Marie Antoinette!

I have ten gazillion bookmarks. Right now I've been using this plastic hello kitty one I got at party city for 99 cents, 'cause I love hello kitty heart
The only thing is, it's made out of hard plastic & doesn't stay put in the book very well...it has a little flap thingie in the middle to stick it over the page, but once again, since it's made of plastic it bends & tears the book when I do that...

My bookmark is a bumper sticker that says Think Pickles.
I don't have a bumper for it to go on so it stays tucked into whatever book I'm reading.

I recently got a set of pretty pink and green magnetic bookmarks from a friend. They're so utilitarian, too - they snap onto the pages, never fall out, and are small, so you can leave them in without being distracted by them.
