The Slide is tricky... For the record all you other instruments, Trombone is THEE or at the least THEE 2ND hardest intrusment to play! You must be careful with the slide, if your move to far or not enough, note it automaticly out of tune.. So practice like mad to learn your positions
I figured that out in 6th grade and good god does it help xD I had to play euphonium for a concert because my trombone broke... I did well because of that ^_^...
also, in general You have to blow more air get tuba lungs!
and your C above the staff will always be flat... pull in the slide a little bit more than you normally would for 3rd position
and and and The only way to tune a trombone is in first position so, if you are out of tune on a note, make sure you can catch it because you have a really big tuning slide in yerr hand.. adjust that ;D
OH! and 2nd position is always a b***h. You have to get it JUST RIGHT or it wont sound right
and 5th will be father out than you think...
and be careful about your case make sure your trombone fits correctly if it doesnt, it might twist your bell and that isnt good..
and and You get edge REALLY easily with a trombone dont worry about the amount of air just worry about the speed
your slide moves fast, whether your playing a quick passage or a slow passage (with the exception of playing a glissando).
If you can get the whole position=valves thing down, then the transition will be much easier.
Never tune your 1st position all the way up. Leave some room, that way you can adjust later if need be, using your slide. There's nothing worse than being out of tune and not being able to adjust, especially while playing an exposed or essential part.

First off you have to learn the positions in relation to Euphoniums fingerings: 1st valve is 3rd position 2nd valve is 2nd position 1st and 2nd is 4th position open is 1st position 1st and 3rd is 6th position I dont know about 5th and 7th positions though
I am switching from trombone to baritone/tuba so its good I know some fingerings.
