The sickly pale femme nodded to the other. "As okay as it can be. Why?" Ears were lazy and waiting to hear why that sudden question was asked. They were doing just fine on that tangent of flowers and sand when Hitomi had suddenly swept that question. Shrugging concern away, Setsu followed as the other tread to the garden. Eyes remained focused on the other's fickle body language, tilting her chin just an inch to follow he rline of sight. A clay jar?

"No, I'm from nowhere near here. You?" Hell, this wasn't even her own world, let alone territory. Double toned eyes left the gourd be, tucking that artifact to the back of her mind for now. "Your clothes are unlike many others I've seen." She couldn't even place what surroundings they'd best be suited for. All in all, it was a fancy attire no doubt.

"Ah... nothing, then." The girl shrugged her shoulders briefly. Was the other uncomfortable? She couldn't tell. This new companion of hers was so stoney... It reminded her, of course, of someone very near to her. Simultaneously it was amusing and frustrating. She could at least read the one that she knew. Ah, well, wasn't this the reason she had kept it going this long? She was curious? Among other things.

Hitomi didn't feel right being the only one talking. Usually you gave a girl a subject to talk about and she'd go on and on until she was tired or ran out of things to say. That wasn't the case with her. She wasn't exactly reticent about herself- for each question she could supply an answer of some form. But she despised prattling on. If she talked more than she wanted, it was because she wished to engage her company.

"Oh? Yeah, I suppose so. Born near here, was raised here," The redhead confirmed, thinking a moment about how it didn't exactly feel right to call herself from anywhere. Setsu pointed out her clothes and Hitomi glanced down as if she had never really noticed them there before. Her toes plucked lightly at the layered fabric, before she seemed dismissive. Instead, she gave a slight smirk to the other female, the expression somehow soft. "The same goes for your clothes. It's my father who is the foreigner, though, and gave these to me, among other things. A little bit impractical this time of year. You have to be boiling around noon in that coat, hm?"

Setsu had fallen back into disregarding her pretense around the other. She could only focus on it for so long before falling back to her comfy zone. And that zone contained secrecy. It was peaceful and quiet, at least from her end of the bargain. So how was Hitomi fairing? The femme glanced back to see the other's condition. Hm, still showing some patience.

"I see." So this girl was of kitsusagi lineage. Born of fur and now confirmed not human. Pale ears seemed to twitch on this information. Perhaps she was getting to wistful in wanting to meet more human individuals. The clothes on strangers often threw her into guessing loops. Glazen eyes tread Hitomi's clothes idly, perking a brow as she spoke. A foreigner father? It still left the question in her mind whether they were for decoration or trial. "Me?" Blinking, Setsu looked to her own attire. "I could only wish it was warm." She strolled over to Hitomi with a good three feet inbetween and extended her paw. "Feel for yourself. A temperature to rival riverstones."

All that was really on Hitomi's mind at the moment was a simple reminiscence of the new change in routine she faced every afternoon. Her outfit was meant for the wasteland from which Gaara hailed, where the sun ate away any flesh in its direct path. Hot, but not burning. Here, well, it was a humid sort of heat, and just about had her sweating to death and seeking shade until the sun passed from directly overhead. And with that weight on her back? Hoo...

She didn't know of the other's musings over humans. Not that she really would have been able to help, having met only a mildy-depressing few along her journeys. She had to blink slightly at Setsu's subjective statement, though. How could she not be hot? But the redhead remained still as she was approached, comfortable with the distance finally set between them. There was a silent questioning from those pale green eyes. In the next moment she found out for herself, lifting her own paw to brush across the other. She didn't remove her hand but she looked positively puzzled.

"Cold as dea--" She paused, reevaluating the pale fur of the one before her. It would definitely, ridiculously make sense. Somehow she seemed so calm, more solemn. "Are you... dead? Well, clearly you technically are not. Or is it part of where you're from..?" Though she didn't think any heritage but a reptilian one would be stone cold.

Setsu nodded at the questioning gaze, urging the other to discover so for herself. The femme glanced down to her own offered paw, too used to its dull tonage to see any significance in the gesture. So manybe Hitomi didn't either. Ha, not like she gave her any tips or hints anyway. The weight of the other kitsu's paw landed on hers and Setsu lifted a brow as she waited for a reaction.

"Cold as what now?" She tried lifting some humor in her voice, as if acting oblivious to Hitomi's guess. It was amusing though to watch the other's face. How she held that air of indifference despite the outlandish situation. "Must we be technical? Because I'm afraid that even I don't know the full extent of my condition. If anything, we can assume my body is in...indefinite pause." She glanced upward while flicking ears back in thought. "Though dead seems to be the common term." Hm, it was an odd perspective to say everything so openly. Truly it was, but in all honesty this kitsu was tired avoiding the issue. Any attempts she did became repetitive with each encounter if not more confusing.

Double toned eyes turned back to Hitomi as she withdrew her paw. "And you? Warm as a furnace. So why do you bask in the sunlight and equally toasted soil?"

A flush came unbidden to her cheeks in embarrassment at her own lack of tact. Luckily, Setsu seemed like a good sport. The way she seemed to just accept and be able to talk the condition over with ease... it seemed to Hitomi as if the female had been carrying around the burden for quite some time. Still, her own ears drooped at the thought of having to be so cold and numb, as surely the other must be. She tried not to let the pity in her heart overwhelm and drown her- it was probably the very last thing her companion ever wanted. But for someone like her, someone who had come to appreciate and worship every little spark of life she came across well... it was a bit depressing.

"...I'm sorry, Setsu." Hitomi relied on her genes and formulated her expression to a less obvious one. She quietly set her jaw and replaced her paw on the ground as the other was removed. She had been asked a question, hadn't she?

"Tradition. I told you that my father is a foreigner? From the dessert- this garb was passed onto me when I was born, as well as that jug you looked at earlier. I don't have much of a choice. I don't think I'd even know what to wear if I wanted to change." She admitted. "I try to stay tucked away at noon. But I have to say I like the heat a lot. Must be in the blood like everything else."

Brows made a slight adjustment to Hitomi's unexpected reaction. The flushing of skin in the face, what did she have to be embarrassed about? Unless Setsu had spoken too bluntly once again and maybe gave the wrong impression of the other rolling about in mud.

She stood, watching and calculating the other before words were spoken. Setsu's own decayed ears fell back in a pin, and she scoffed under her breath as her paw withdrew. "To hell with being sorry. You have no reason to be." Eyes glanced aside to compose herself, tired of such expected but uneeded courtesy. And when she turned back, Hitomi's placid appearance made up for the previous remark. Heavy clothes crinkled as she turned to see the said jug, then back to Hitomi's attire. "I suppose tradition is a physical wieght to bare as well. Though choice and change are yours to experiment with." Neck titled back as she focused upward and passed the tree leaves. Just what time of day was it now? Either way, it was warm enough to keep her from being uncomfortable. "The heat; it is pleasant. That I'll agree to."

Maybe so. It wasn't her fault, sure, but she wasn't... exactly apologizing for anything. Surely Setsu knew what she really meant. Perhaps she chose not to. Hitomi could at least see, at least assume that she didn't like to talk about it so she left it. It definitely wasn't her place to push it.

"Believe me, if I didn't know that I wouldn't be right now," She smirked slightly, gesturing to her garden, "Tradition says I should be working on wilting, not growing. Here I am, though. Looks pretty good, hm? It will, with a little rain." She considered for a moment, then grinned a little, nodding toward the gourd. "You want to see what I do with my inheritance beside make holes to hold you?"

Setsu understood well enough. It was just a pity that there was no equal meaning for 'I'm sorry' to be said. Snirking, the femme though that 'oh well' suited just as fine. Feather twitched as Setsu adjusted her ears, quirking a brow. She looked once agian to the garden, now with an enlightened hint of curiousity, then glanced back at the leaning jug.

"Ah, seems tradition holds a physical weight as well on individual souls." With a shift to her heavy tails, Setsu nodded while leaning back in the direction of the opening from before. "You, wilting things?" Not a first glance guess, surely. But after enduring just what Hitomi can do, Setsu easily believed so now. "And do you always capture unwilling audiences? Effective but not encouraged."

"I wouldn't contest that," She agreed, before following Setsu's gaze. "That's where my god-given talents seem to lie. It doesn't interest me, though. Glad you noticed." A soft snort. "I think I might be ready to face the consequences. Isn't there always a risk in pursuing what interests you? Besides, not everyone carries a dagger with them here."

Ears quirked to the other femme's form of humor. It was quite amusing, compared to those of others she had met. "No interest in such a trait, I don't know whether to applaud you or scorn you." Shoulders shrugged, finding it of no influence to her being. Hitomi could do whatever the hell she wished for her life. Pale paw reached out and patted the hilt of her weapon fondly. "Pft, we all welcome risk with different methods, yes? And I must say, I'm curious to see the depths of your own method. If you don't have anything better to do?" Perhaps she could subtely test her own powers against the grains of the redhead.
