Ok, so, my band director doesn't want the drum majors to wear traditional uniforms. The other drum major and I were talking about ideas, and we couldn't think of anything. So, we're both females, and our theme this year is California. We were sort of thinking today's fashion in California. We're just trying to get this figured out so we have one less thing to do during the summer. If you have any ideas, please tell me. Pictures would be great, also. Thanks in advance!

Well, I live in SoCal (middle of nowhere SoCal, mind you). =D

Annoyingly enough, skinny jeans are very popular. Ew.

My suggestion is to go with some stereotypical image, like sunglasses or something? xD;

(Our drum majors don't dress up; we have set traditional uniforms..)

Wear bathing suits! Nah, just kidding. biggrin

Is your usual uniform the band's coat with different pants or something along that line? If so, I'd suggest maybe wearing dresses or something. It's not quite traditional, but it would look classy. This year, my co-drum major and I wore long black dresses with long white gloves. I'd suggest something like that, especially as "California" sounds like a difficult theme.

Try to formal-up whatever the guard is wearing, possibly in a different color than theirs. Otherwise, just pick something professional looking. The drum majors are in charge, so look like you're taking that seriously. Also, a lot of drum majors use white gloves for a reason - visibility. Plan on choosing something that won't look ridiculous with your gloves and don't choose something that's floaty around the arms becuase it will muddy the movements as you conduct. Find out what company your colorguard instructor is ordering uniforms from and if it is a company that sells new uniforms (not used ones on consignment) let him/her know that you will need to order uniforms as well so that your can place your order at the same time (this probably will happen some time in July). This will save the band some money and will ensure that you all have your uniforms on time unless your guard instructor drops the ball. Three common companies that carry a huge selection in stock are bandmans, band hall, and band shoppe - all of which have online catalogs and print versions which you can call and have sent to the school if your staff doesn't already have recent copies. You can also check guardcloset and the guard room for used uniforms sold as-is and see if you find anything classy and cheap in your sizes.
