Watari knew that he should take a break. His throat was dry, his stomach was grumbling, and if he focused his eyes anymore his optic nerves would probably explode. But he could not break. He would not lose!
Yet, against his will, he felt his eyelids close, and his gold-tipped tails flicked as he groaned, "Why do I always lose these blinking contests? Why?"003 could only give his cooing laughter. Three for him, zero for Watari.

It had been so long since she had seen an adult behaving like a child. Admittedly, she had not met too many Kitsu - but those who she had met seemed widely uninterested in anything regarding juvenile behavior. Distant inspection informed her that his hair, like her own, was golden. He, like her, was wearing clothing meant for work. He, like her, wore glasses (though she supposed she was not wearing them currently). And she found herself wondering thoughtfully whether or not he too shot fire from his retinas.
Her tails flicked interestedly whilst he had a staring contest with some creature she had never witnessed before. Though she would admit in an instant that it was darling. Lips curved upward into the smallest smile when he lost, and she could feel the disappointment radiating from his fur.
Robin's smile altered immediately.
Should she comfort him? Encourage him? It was often what she did with the children at the convent when they became distressed. She opened her mouth, but stopped just before the words were capable of rolling off her tongue. She was a stranger. The fact that she had been watching him at all was a tad bit creepy, Robin decided discontentedly. So she should say nothing, rather remain silent.
Shouldn't she?
But she liked him. She liked everyone she met, in all actuality. He was a potential friendship - and she wanted so desperately so befriend him. She wanted so desperately to befriend everyone she met. A small gulp before she approached on quiet paws, "If you keep at it..." She murmured awkwardly, her tails curling, "You'll definitely improve."

Watari hadn't been aware that another Kitsusagi was observing him until she spoke, and watery golden eyes peered through glass lenses to observe the female that came closer. Well, female or high-pitched male. Probably female if he had to guess from the way she held her head, the hair style, the lace around the collar. But he'd seen some fairly girly males.
Said Kitsusagi seemed to be comforting him, too. A point towards the female factor due to mothering. He closed his eyes and blinked a few times until his overtaxed retinas behaved again, all hint of the former watering gone, if only to get a better look at the person addressing him, and he gave one of his normally sweet smiles, "Oh, I don't know about that. 003 and I've been together a long time, and I haven't beaten him yet. He has a natural advantage, I'd swear to it. ... or he puts something in my eyes while I sleep. Probably the former though."
003 gave a chirp of mock-indignation, his round eyes wibbling as though to suggest his cherubic innocence to the stranger. This almost hid the way he slid closer to Watari's side, intent on keeping an eye on the newcomer and remaining safely beside his charge at the same time.
Watari acknowledged the movement by half-nuzzling against the guardian's head and tilting his own towards the stranger, "I'm Watari, by the by. This is 003."
And, of course, he was far too gentlemanly to ask for a name in return... though common courtesy dictated that he would, in fact, recieve one.

Her mannerisms were pretty typical - so, of course, she did exactly what he had expected: "Ah! Watari and... 003?" She offered a questioning look at that name, as though she was uncertain as to whether or not she had gotten it right at all - it was foreign to her... strange entirely, "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir - I'm Robin. Robin Sena." She said softly and somewhat awkwardly. Her voice was hesitant, but she continued with as much confidence as she could manage, "It's a pleasure to meet you..." Though she was a tad bit curious about the coat; was it a lab coat, she wondered thoughtfully. She cocked her head delicately, her tails curling uncomfortably before she decided to keep her mouth shut; she had to reason to question his attire, she was certain it was for work, just as hers was.
Their work was definitely different, she was sure. Or rather, she wasn't sure; she knew not what his work was, and she planned not to inquire something so personal. It was impolite.
"003 is... quite the cutey." She spoke clumsily, "How long have you had him?" She hoped she had heard the creature's gender right, not to mention its name. She tried drastically to pay close attention to such things, but often made herself nervous - whether she knew she was right or not.
She clicked her tongue silently, uncertainly.

003 preened beneath Robin's compliment, the feathers on his arms puffing with pride even as he cooed towards Watari's open display of affection.
Watari's orange eyes narrowed minutely as he took in Robin's introduction. She checked to make sure the names were correct, stuck to the formal 'sir'... all signs of courtesy, but also discomfort. The sight of her tails curling made his own spread out in response, as though seeking to alleviate the tension.
His smile brightened from sweet to cheery, "Nice to meet you too, Robin. Please, have a seat!"
Nudging his glasses up on his nose, he frowned in thought at her question, puffing a breath of hair to remove a tendril of gold hair from his eyes. "I... honestly don't know how long it's been. It seems like forever. I can't imagine life without the little guy. But we all have a friend like that - I'm sure you do too, right?"

Upon his command, she sat - ears pulled back thoughtfully whilst he spoke about his companion. They began raising more and more with each word that escaped him, and once the declaration was concluded, they were perked curiously - as though she wanted to hear more about 003 and Watari - a story, something, because she was fascinated by them, and hearing about them made her comfortable. Thus far, the Kitsusagi she had conversed with were far from normal; she had been awkward around each and every one of them. Then, Robin supposed she had no room to talk - shooting fire from her eyeballs was definitely far from normal, as well. She bit her tongue at the thought. Amidst the taste of copper, she wondered whether Watari had something about him that separated him from normalcy. Everyone had perks and quirks, she knew - and she wondered what his were.
Then she was questioned as to whether or not she had a friend that she could not imagine life without. She offered him an uncertain, questioning look at the inquiry - whereupon she asked herself if she did.
And then it came to her.
"Well, at the convent there were many nuns and Father Juliano... life without them definitely is difficult." But she was fine without them, Robin noted wordlessly - she could feed herself, she could clean up after herself... the problem was not that without them she questioned her capability to take care of herself; no, that wasn't it at all... the problem was that without them, she questioned her work - questioned whether or not it was ethical. She questioned everything they had ever taught her...
... And wasn't that dangerous?
She cocked her head to the side hesitantly at his cheerfulness - and quietly, Robin decided that his bright smile and gleeful vocalizations, not to mention his goofiness was what attracted her to him in the first place... it was what made her want to befriend him more desperately than she had wanted to befriend anyone in the past. She offered him a gentle smile, her tails uncurling comfortably before she continued thoughtfully, "And you... are you a scientist, Mister Watari?" She nearly slapped her paw to her head at having been so blunt; there were definitely ways to go about that more delicately... the best would have been not to question at all. "Forgive me... that was sudden..." And rude, Robin added mentally before her eyes averted quietly towards whence she came. Perhaps departing would let this entire situation end on a better note? She was unsure. But she had decided long ago that she would leave nobody unless they requested it.

Watari relaxed as he listened to Robin's half of the conversation, finding himself more at ease than he had been in a while. The other Kitsusagi seemed an intelligent conversationalist, capable of speaking on a variety of subjects with deep and unique thought; Watari would not boast such a claim of himself, but he appreciated the characteristic in other individuals.
A gleam appeared in his orange eyes when the convent was mentioned, the possibility of discovery sparking his blood and nibbling at his bones. Before he could find out more, however, a question made his left ear turn to catch it, and he gave a stretch as he answered. "That's alright! Sudden questions just indicate curiousity, and there's nothing wrong with that. ... well, in appropriate settings, anyway. I think this is appropriate. I suppose I am a scientist, of sorts. I'm mostly an engineer, though I'm also interested in medicine and chemistry."
And since it seemed impolite to explain just what he dappled with chemically, he smoothly shifted the conversation back towards Robin while batting playfully at 003's feathery tail, "And you are... or were a nun? Or simply lived in a convent? I'm not familiar with what either would entail."

Her face brightened gradually as he confirmed that he was, in fact, a scientist. She rose a slender brow when medicine was mentioned, emerald eyes shimmering thoughtfully and curiously as she prepared herself to inquire on the subject in particular - but then she was politely questioned as to whether or not she was - or had been - a member of the religious order. She offered the faintest smile and chose her words delicately, "Yes - I suppose you could put it that way." She replied thoughtfully, "It's a tidbit different, however. Or rather, there's more to it." Should she mention anything about fire-wielding eyes to a scientist, she wondered. Would he even be interested in her history? Wasn't it rude to bore someone with the past? A moments thought before she decided that Watari would not be harmful to her, and she had nothing else to speak about, whereupon she continued: "I was raised in a convent in Italy, you see - but I wasn't born there... as a matter of fact, I think I may have been born somewhere in Japan..." Robin averted her gaze, her tone contemplative and her words unsure, "Quite honestly, I'm not entirely certain what it was that happened to my parents..." She whispered.
And it was true. Father Juliano had told her little about the time before he had begun raising her. Though admittedly, she was merely an infant when he did begin. Perhaps her parents had simply left her on the doorstep for the convent to worry about. Of this, she was uncertain.
"I'm actually a craft-user..." She murmured awkwardly, "My job is to hunt down witches - but I can't kill them." She put much emphasis on the last part, as it was still something foreign that she was trying to grow accustomed to, "Simply I tire them, whereupon the factory-people take them away." Where to, she had no idea. What they did with the witches, she also knew nothing of. She was aware of little that went on - and often questioned it.
But she wasn't supposed to. That was dangerous.
"But I suppose that's a little bit boring. I'd be much more interested in hearing about you, sir - if you are willing to share."

003 cooed in delight at Watari's attention, moving his feathered arms to bat back at the paws touching his tail. He was content to listen to the conversation around him without participating in it, as was often his way. However, hearing the sudden emphasis in Robin's voice and sensing the change in mood, he tilted his head and gave a questioning chirp.
Watari was also aware that his question had struck an unintentional nerve, his tails wings lowering and tails stilling instinctively as he listened to her explanation with a wry grin. Hunting witches? How could that possible be boring?!
Of course, her profession meant that the two Kitsusagi were more alike than Robin knew, but the guardian of death held his tongue. He could not simply reveal the cases that he had worked on - no mention of eye-possessing devils and burning, blood-soaked nights. That was not his information to reveal. That was information that seperated rather than united... and he could not take that chance.
So he used his merry laugh to cover his doubts, stretching his wings again as he shook his head, "More about me? Compared to a witch hunter, I don't think I have much to offer. I dabble with interesting projects - an automatic cake-slicing machine named Jason-kun, a thus far unsucessful sex change potion... nothing of any great importance. But if there's anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask.

Her profession had been their justification in sending her here in the first place, Robin reasoned gloomily; and she wondered - whilst her jade eyes inspected Watari, and her ears clung to his words - how different life would have been if she had been permitted to choose her occupation. Such a decision, the girl realized, would have made things astoundingly simpler. But she was born into her work. Her craft, though awkward and untamed, had been impressive enough to ship her away as a replacement for one of the numerous branches of SOLOMON when she was merely fifteen years of age. She had been selected above her coworkers, and - though she had hidden well - it had been by far one of the most frightening moments of her life. The paths had been foreign to her, the libraries were situated much differently from the convent's - and, more importantly, the library contained books that Father Juliano would make sure stayed away from his collection, and Robin's selection.
... But why?
At mention of the potion, she quirked a well-formed brow. Jade eyes were filled with uncertainty as she considered the vocalization over momentarily to make sure that she had heard it correctly. It took mere seconds before she decided that she had heard accurately the words that Watari had spoken, whereupon she offered the male the sweetest smile she could manage, "'Sex Change'? Really? How amazing!" Her tails wagged thoughtfully at the idea of it, "Unsuccessful or not - the concept all in itself is remarkable; you are quite the scientist, then. Not to mention an automatic cake-slicing machine." Her lips curved upward more, tails intertwining idly, "I imagine that's a fantastic product. Think of the birthday parties! What a wonderful thing that would be to have." She canted her head to the side thoughtfully, her eyes curious: "Jason-kun?" She inquired, her voice uncertain, "Oh my! Is that a joke? About the serial-killer in the... umm... slasher film? His name was Jason, wasn't it? And - he sliced people - like your machine!" With the discovery came a brighter smile. In all reality, she had not personally seen the film - as Father Juliano would have never permitted such a thing... merely she heard talk of it.
Robin decided, with vigorous glee, that she had always loved (and recently missed) clever wit in each of her discussions - so Watari was definitely enjoyable conversation.

The conversation was rapidly becoming new territory for the scientist, and it was an exploration he enjoyed. Normally he cheerfully detailed his various projects (and the importance therein) to an unwilling crowd, one that needed to be convinced of the necessity of his work. Now, however, he seemed to have a captivated audience of one wanting to hear every detail; who was he to deny her?
"Well... in truth, the sex change potion's not coming along too well. So far all I've managed to do is get people to turn into other people or turn into children. One day though... one day." He sighed wistfully, a clouded look overcoming his vibrant orange eyes. "One day I'll be able to make it to where men and women truly understand each other. Then one more boundary between people will be gone."
He snapped back to attention at the speculation of Jason-kun's name, and his smile became sheepish. "Honestly? I... I'm not quite sure how his name came about. It seemed to fit at the time, and it's just such an adoreable name, isn't it?
003 stretched out before flopping onto Robin's tail, fluffing up the fur in order to make a comfortable nesting place. He was glad that Watari had finally found someone to have a long chat with, and he was content to wait for as long as necessary... but if he was going to wait, then he was going to be comfortable!

Alarmed at the sudden bundle in her tails, Robin flicked her attention backwards on 003 carefully. She offered a questioning look whilst it fluffed at her fur casually, its large eyes focusing on the current project of nest-making at hand. Jade eyes shimmered with delight upon realizing the small creature's intentions - a smile tugging at her lips delicately before she kindly brought her sight upon Watari again. He spoke of his ambitions - which, strangely enough, was merely for men and women to understand one-another; Robin tilted her head, addled at the thought. She parted her lips to speak on the matter, but halted the words before they were capable of slipping away from her.
Because then came that realization that she was unable to understand exactly what it was he was attempting to do with this potion - which brought another realization, and that was that he very well may be right.
She offered a tender smile as he spoke again of Jason-kun's name, his smile meek. Robin's ears flicked with thoughtfulness as she listened to his explanation - which, while not as long as his other experiment's, made much more sense to her: "Oh, yes!" She replied, her smile remaining still, "It's definitely an adorable name - more so than my own. You really are quite an amazing scientist, Mister Watari - I am truly, truly impressed."
And she was.
She watched the ground with growing uncertainty, "And what of 003?" She inquired curiously, "I really would adore hearing a story of how you two met - if it isn't too much trouble, that is."
