Made from the tutorial found here...

More Pics in my Livejournal

I ended up taping over the speaker cords with electrical tape, to make them heavier-looking and black rather than bright iPod white. It turned out well, and really brought out the antiqueness of the whole headset.

The only thing left to do is find some very short screws that won't interfere with the speakers inside the housings, and plug the holes on the sides. I don't mind the looks of them so much, but today as I was running, I realized that my headphones whistled when I hit a certain speed. O_o

Next step: I must do something about my MP3 player, it's round and blue and sporty and simply will not do.

I love them. Wanted to make them myself once, but it's hard to get hold of older things around here.^^

Dreaming Within: Thank you smile

Fir Firence: I got the headphones off of Ebay, where they are easy to find and tend to be pretty cheap. Some brands are more collectible (and therefore expensive) than others, and some are in poor condition, but in general they're not hard to find online.

sapphirewrench: Thanks!

I want to add that four months later, the headset is still working well. It sounds great considering that I used very cheap speakers to replace the original electronics, the shape of the headband doesn't interfere with my glasses like many modern headsets do, and the lack of foam padding means the headphones stay comfortable even when it's very hot. biggrin I'm so happy with the way this project turned out!

How hard was this to do? Did it take several hours, a whole day...? They are absolutly beautiful and I must say you do make us proud! xd heart

Ambrose Closer: Thank you! They took only about 4 hours of work, actually, and most of that was cleaning off the old grime and oiling the rusted screws to loosen them. Aside from cleaning, the most time-consuming part was wrapping the new headphone cords in black tape to cover the white platsic.

Kaiserhuff and That Guy 52: Thank you both! smile

I like them. I might have to make a pair for myself.

Those are most excellent! I tried to get my hands on a similar pair but could only get ahold of a rather bulky pair that 'updated' myself a while ago.. (Old photo).

I stopped wearing them after a while because they didn't stay on very well or play very loud.. So I think I either need some better modern headphones or some different old skool headphones!

All the same though, they make a very fetching accessory!

Edit: In regards to your comments about your MP3 player, although it's a bit of a 'cheap fix' you can buy a rather dandy steampunk skin for your player which is most attractive.
However, if you prefer to make things yourself then I would imagine that to be much more rewarding!
