Journals arent hard, there is a button for submitting new journals.
Add deviation lets you put up your art work. Sometimes near the menu youll see something like "15 Watches"... those are people who are watching your art, journals, replies to messages.

Well, it is simple enough. Like alexandra said, you must first have an account. Its simple enough to join, just follow the instructions, confirm your account and you are right to go.
Assuming that you are part of an art guild I take it that you intend upon posting art there, correct? Ok, to do this, once you log in you click upon your user name that should appear on the top left of the screen. A page will load, this is a basic view of your profile.
To edit your profile and make it look good go to the area which is on the right of your screen and has a lot of options, there you click on Edit Settings and Profile. In here it has all the basic information about you that others can see, or just you depending upon how you set things up. You can play around with this for a bit but then its a good idea to click on the Identity link that is under the word public upon the left of the page. This allows you to make your ever trusty signiture. (don't forget to always press Ok or Save after you are done).
Once you start publishing art you can then go to Userpage Display and pick a featured image that will show up extra large upon your front profile.
Now, when it comes to putting images onto your profile its easy enough, you can either go up to your user name where there is a small arrow pointing downwards and click the arrow then click Submit Deviation or go to your profile page and click it from the list of options you have avalible.
Once you click this a different page will come up. Its a simple matter of filling out the instructions but I will go through it just in case.
Deviation Title is the name by which your art will be known. Try to make it creative as possible.
Category is where you find the perfect place for your art to be known as. It is a simple mater of clicking upon all the things that cover your art work till you reach a point that it allows you to click Ok. This is accessed by clicking the button by the word category saying choose....
Now, the next point Which File? is where you upload your work. During this you need to be rather patient as it can take a while. You click Add a File and a window that shows folders from your computer will come up, go through your folders till you find the image you want then double click it. It will start to load. Not many people add a text unless they are writers but when you are doing this a page that allows for writting upon will come up, most people just copy and paste their writing work to on here.
While your image loads Artist's Comments is where you write the description of your work and how you did it. What you like or don't like. Your inspiration... whatever you like!
Keywords are the words by which your artwork will be found so if you want lots of people to look at your art make lots of key words that relate to your art so that people are more likely to see it. No commar between is needed, just spaces.
Deviation Options- leave that as default, it will make your life a whole lot easier.
Contains mature content - only you can know this, if you think it has then say Yes [warning] or yes [strict]. Its up to you, but I always select no, it allows more people to see.
Creative commons- Just ignore this.
Tick the I have Reads.... and then press Submit.
Another page will come up, don't scroll to the bottom, it is just asking if you want to sell your art. Not many people do this so you are better off to just click the first box that shows at the top of the page ok?

Journal is simply a matter of going down from the arrow by your user name again and clicking update journal and writing whatever you like. This journal will show on your profile page and jazz things up a bit.

Searching deviantart of others is as simple as searching in the search bar. If you find something you like when you click it to see it bigger just click Add to Favorites and it will be saved onto your profile in your favorites to be able to be seen by you whenever you want. As far as I know there is no limits to how many favorites that you have or how many images you upload.
However, things can get messy so some people actually file their art into folders. This is done when you go onto your profile you click Browse Gallery (which under recent deviartions). Once this page has loaded click onto EDIT which should appear just above all your art in the middle of the screen. Here you click New Folder, make as many folders as you think you need to catogorise your art with different names to make things more easy then either drag and drop your images into the correct folder or, using the arrow under the picture you want to move, select the folder you want to put it into on the drop down list.

The thing about deviantart is that there are a lot of little buttons that you don't even need unless you intend upon selling art or being very professional. Point is, you just need your profile to look tidy for it to really work.
