Everyone here is so.. "in the know how" of drawing anatomy and stuff like that.
I never use boxes and stuff. Do you all go to art school and eat this stuff for brekky? :<

I find it kinda boring so i just never committed myself to learning - just draw and tweak till its around my standard.
Or draw a billion lines and then erase the ones that dont look right, till i get the single best one. My sister's all like "dude why do you draw a line if its not even how you want it? Why dont you just draw it right the first time - thats what i do. Then you dont end up having to erase things or have messy lines" mad freak art monster twin.

I'd like to be able to do all that kind of hips=rectangle, torso=triangle complex 3D stuff, but i just dont want to do the whole learning bit domokun it doesnt lock into my head.

Let me tell you a secret:

My anatomy-fu is s**t
I erase so much it's like I'm carving out lines
I hardly, if ever, use reference on anything organic even when not doing so is to my detriment

In short, I am not the one to ask!

there is no magic shortcut, sorry

ummm but what helped most for me was talking a figure sculpture class if that makes any sense. where we built the figure from the skeleton up to the muscles and then the flesh.
you have like visualize everything in 3d and djfhdf it really helped
but i think of things in terms of skeltal landmarks and how the skeleton is shaped and junk but other people use like boxes and triangles. if you look up tutorials you can probably find a lot of different ways maybe do that until you find one that sticks?

but idk i did it the hard way.
and this makes me kind of irritated? If you arent willing to work to get something then why bother mang. sometimes you have to make sacrifices. If you want to learn anatomy so you can draw better but you dont actually want to learn anatomy, then you must not really care that much

Blocking things out really isn't that difficult, I didn't really do it until I actually knew about anatomy like in-depth, now I block everything out so I can see where things go and what to shade and it's also a good tool for conveying movement better since you know how the body as a whole reacts
also it reduces the chance of "******** this I'm tired of drawing this part over and over NEXT" syndrome

yeah thats true, i dont care so much.

i like to draw for other people and i'm not in interested in drawing as a career, partly because i know its not gonna happen anyway.
I like learning anatomy on the science side of life... but thats about it. or something.

WHY I bother is because I like drawing for other people on gaia. I dont much care with most of my drawings since i dont like how i draw. its a bad loop.
but when i reeeeeally like something i go and figure out the details like anatomy and stuff. (or i dont feel i need to cuz its a bit twisted anyway)

i understand the whole - "takase has no passion so gtfo".

drawing is sort of like.. not passion.. just a hobby because im not much good for baking and needlework :< but i like to be good at hobbies so i must learn these thingsss. Thats also why i dont like to try call myself an "artist"
It shits off everyone arty i meet irl too. Especially the ones who have the passion and go take courses and stuff, or find out i had a sweet job and wasted the opportunity.

psps also wimmen must be good at these things to attract the tomohomofolk cool ohoho

There are really no shortcuts.
Even as a hobby I know people who study, or use references. That's the only way you'll get better, unless you just wanna be someone like snapesnogger that improves on their own style slowly over time.

your snapesnogger reference is dirty but effective as a warning

I have been drawing seriously since I was four.
I am twenty-two.

I never draw my figures with boxes. I learned the most in life drawing. Drawing from observation is great, but so is combining it with an indepth study of anatomical structures and the like.

Jumping right into geometric shapes for the body would have been sort of confusing to me...

i like skeletons. 8D

not dirty, we used to be best friends for a few months a few years ago. I stopped when I realized she was crazy and living vicariously through her art as a means to get popular.
She was only interested in that one style and became crazy/already was crazy.
Don't want another one going that route razz

this confuses the crap out of me

you don't want to learn how to draw better because it would be too much work, so instead you will just draw each picture over and over until it accidentally comes out right?

I want to learn to draw better precisely so I don't have to do that.
