I would say don't get nervous, and if you do, don't let it show. My school had auditions last week, and we just had our "election" today. I tried out, but have no idea what everyone thought or said. Anyways, just be yourself, and calm down. Breathe in for 8 counts, breathe out for 8 counts... (haha, band humor).

Ask the current drum majors or the band teacher for tips and help conducting (or whatever your audition will be). That way, you'll be helped by the people who know best, you'll show how dedicated you are to the audition, and you'll feel more confident. That will probably help the most. Then, during your audition, if it is in front of the band, try to APPEAR relaxed, no matter how you feel. You can do this by smiling at people (don't stare at a fixed point on the back wall while conducting) and seeming to enjoy yourself.
