I know that sometimes people discourage me when I talk about ways to conserve. My friend Andrew is realist and aware of how much we are consuming. He doesn't think one person can make a difference and thinks even if we are saving in one area we are surely wasting in another.
I've been told, "it's great you do all these things, but you're just one person. If more people did things you did it would be better." It kind of bursts my bubble. But at the same time I teach simple things that people can do to save energy and other things (money helps). I'm 17 and a lot of my friends drive (as do I) I tell them what is more fuel effcient, and what will save them money when driving.
How do you feel when people say, "you're just one person."?
I'd also like to add that I've had someone tell me, "you don't need an army to fight for a cause." Which I thought was nice.

I have definately both been and felt discouraged. Sometimes I feel like there's nothing I can do, especially when I am completely frustrad by my mom...She tends to just not listen to me when I try to even tell her about something environmental, and when she does listen she laughs about it.
But still, better to help a little than to worsen our conditions. Plus you can set an example for others - because even if each one of us does something very, very, small - whether it be picking up an abandonded beer can off the road or unplugging your unused cell phone charger - if there are a lot of people that are doing small acts like that, it makes a huge impact.
So spread awareness, be a model, and keep up your action! mrgreen

I have a feeling that whenever anyone wishes to see change made, discouragement is sure to follow. That, however, does not mean that they must submit to that shadow. My family also has a tendency of laughing at my environmental efforts, but it makes me that much more determined to do what I can. People may say that you are"only one person", that "you can't do anything" but always remember the reason for what it is your doing. I think that it is important to remind not only yourself but your discourager as well that you are not alone. I mean, just look at how many of us are in this guild! 4laugh Change is a slow process, it takes time, patience, determination, and purpose. We may not see major changes during our times, but every small step taken is certainly a victory in itself!
