"No, not far. And like I said, it's not a very big spring," Aqua chuckled, pleased to see how much more personable Everel had become. Getting him clean would be simple enough, she hoped. Getting him dry before he had a chance to catch a chill though, something else she'd need to figure out. And quickly.
Casting an eye up at the sky, Aqua frowned slightly. There wasn't much of a chance of the sun coming out in full force today. Maybe I can bundle him into those bits of cloth I took for bedding, she thought.
Shaking herself free of her thoughts and plans, Aqua looked around and smiled.
"I do believe we're here."

Tails wriggling in anticipation, Everel waited just long enough for an indicated direction before racing to the tiny spring. Aqua had been right, it wasn't very big, but it was just big enough for his forequarters to fit into.
Holding his breath, he knelt and dunked his front legs and head into the water. After a few moments, he came up gasping for air, then repeated the process until the mud on his fur felt different and he saw a lovely glob splatter off.

Laughing fit to burst, Aqua watched her companions performance. From the dunking and gasping all the way through the way he found the grassy patch and a few twigs and scraped the mud away once it as wet enough. By the time he'd finished, her sides hurt from laughing.
"Well," she drawled, "you certainly look much more presentable now. And since i would rather not turn you loose to get a chill, I think you need to come with me and we'll get you settled in the den. After all, I'd hate to see you catch a cold or worse for the lack of a little care."

Shaking himself to be rid of the extra water, Everel nodded agreement. Oh! It felt so good to be clean again! Following Aqua, he crawled into a hollowed out little space beneath a fallen tree trunk. Nodding with approval at the way she'd turned what otherwise could have been a nasty ditch into somethign quite cozy, Everel settled down and allowed the female to cover him up with a few ragged bits of blanket.
Sighing he snuggled under them, knowing they'd help warm him up and in turn, the warmer he got, the drier his fur would get too.
Moments later, the combined events of the day robbed the last of his energy and he fell asleep, never hearing Aqua's chuckle.
