Ice cleared her throat, looking at the three people at the table for a long moment before finally asking. "Why is there a pirate at my dining room table?"
Kisa looked up from where she had been scanning the help wanted adds, blinking twice before looking over at Josiah. Now that Ice mentioned it, he DID look like a pirate! She looked down at the ads in her hand before flipping the page. She wouldn't find a job for a pirate on that page...
"I'm afraid he's got nowhere else to go, Ice." Aleric said from where he was looking at yet another set of help wanted ads.
"So you just bring him home?" Ice asked, shaking her head. "Honey, we don't do that with adults. Adults can take care of themselves." She sighed as she sat down at the table, glancing over at Kisa. "And I'm guessing you're going along with this because Aleric asked you to?"
Kisa managed to look sheepish.
"If ye want, mistress, Yorick and I can be findin--" Josiah said slowly, trying not to stare at the white skinned female. She seemed to be in charge of the house... And this time he was positive she was female from the start. No dou had a chest like that.
Ice glanced at the dog in question, almost smiling. Bone markings! How cool! "No, it's fine. At least, until you get a job and find something you can afford." Ice said, rubbing her temple. "But this place is pretty small, I'm afraid. Would you mind sleeping in the attic? I think we can fit a bed up there..."
"You are very kind, Ice." Aleric said with a smile for his bond. He couldn't help but feel for the large male, understanding how confusing it was appearing in a world one didn't understand.
But then Ice threw him a curve. "I think I've seen your type before..." She said slowly, looking Josiah over slowly. "You're a... a doushikai, right?"
"Ah... aye. I be a dou." Josiah said, looking away.
"Well that's a relief." Ice said, finally relaxing completely.
Kisa looked up at her curiously, wondering what she was talking about. Ice caught the glance. "Dou are gay, honey. They like other males." For some reason that made her relaxed, Kisa thought blankly. "What's your name?"
"Josiah, mistress."
"Alright, Josiah." Ice said with a smile. "I hope you don't mind helping around the house. I've got two daughters, one baby son and his daemon, three feien, and two miniature animal boys. More often than not Marne's over here, as well."
"I don't." Josiah said, glancing over at Kisa for the briefest of seconds before looking back at Ice. She thought he was normal. "Mind, tha' is."
Whereas Kisa was trying to figure out how two males "Liked" each other. Her nose scrunched as she thought, coming up with a blank entirely. Of course, she had seen a few movies late at night where a male and a female--
Josiah kept his mouth shut, not about to admit that he was more of a pervert than she would ever know.
"Now. Have you ever fixed a roof?" Ice asked, propping her chin on her hands with a wicked look.
"Nay, but I get tha feeling I'll be learnin." He said with a reluctant smile.

Sunny Day The beat of a stereo bass filled the air of the backyard. Soho was the only one there, but by how she was draped out on a barbie lounge chair on the sandy part of the beach showed that she didn't mind so much. The stereo was on a table next to the kiddie pool, and punk music was the musical preference of the day. Next to it was an unfinished strawberry, attracting flies. Bavaria had been heading to the open window to enter the house and hunt down Silva. That old b*****d stilled owed her some training! Well, her and the others. She still wanted to get powerful, after all. But the sound of the music distracted her. From her limited experence, music meant they were some place other than the house, so she headed in that direction. Once around the house, she spotted the red girl sunning herself. Soho, right? With a shrug she flew there and landed on the sand. "Yo..." Yeah, awkward greeting, but how else was she to do that? She looked around, seeing no one else. "Geez, did they all leave you or somethin?" "Mister Silva Demon decided to go shopping with Ice." She replied. "And Aleric is going shopping with the new pirate guy that lives in our attic." "New... pirate guy?" Bav blinked and took a seat on the sand. Well, Silva and Aleric were gone but there was no reason to turn around and fly back home now. That was a long flight. "He lives in the attic." Soho said, finally opening an eye. "He's big and cool! I keep trying to get him to say 'ARRR!' but he only did it once. Ice says that he's safe because he's a dou, which means he doesn't like girls." "... Ok, so why does that make him safe? What if he did like girls?" The hope feien asked, confused about that issue. Did it really matter if he liked girls or not? Maybe Red's bond was still pissed at Shade, so was taking it out on all guys! If so, Bav should figure out how to get Jack here so Ice could be mean to him! But that might make Bruns mad. "Because pirates are supposed to RAPE and plunder." Soho said as if that explained everything. "But if he doesn't like girls that means... well, actually, I'm a bit confused past that part, too. I mean, sex is just rubbing against something right?" She frowned, opening a second eye and touching her chin with a finger. "But anyway, we've got another housemate. And he's got a dog." "Maybe she just doesn't want the whole rubbing thing going on." Bav said logicly. She vegaly knew what feien sex involved, then she added. "But I think there's a bit more for humanoids." What she wasn't sure. Yet. "But he's got a dog? And you also got that metal thing rolling around here. Does the dog chase it?" She couldn't help but ask and also wondered if it chased Nick and Nack around the house. "Nuh uh. Oblivion scares it." Soho said with a nod. "But Oblivion scares a lot of things. And she's just a baby. I'd hate to see her when she's full grown!" Bav choked at that idea. "Who needs a gaurd dog? Just stick her at the front door and those sales men will never ever bother you!" She agreed, leaning back on her hands and looking out over the water. Why didn't she get her own beach? "So, whatcha doin here by yourself? I'd figure you'd be someone who likes to be around people." She asked lightly. "I do..." She said slowly. "I get lonely real fast. But Marne's gone home to get some things and I haven't seen Dee in like, forever, and Silva's no fun to shop with and--" She sighed. "So I'm working on my tan. I already painted my toenails, see?" And sure enough the tiny toenails were black once again. Bav blinked at the nails, wondering how the hell she was able to paint those. It did look cool, though! She just smirked at them. "Maybe you just need a hobby! That way when no one's around, you'll have something to do." "Then when you get bored of that, go bug someone." She gave a serious nod. It what she did, after all... and it worked for her! So why shouldn't it work for someone else? "I thought about that." Soho said with a nod. "But I couldn't think of anyone off the top of my head." "Mmmm... that does make it difficult then, huh?" Bav answered then gave a shrug. "Well, I'm bored too. Trin's off doing something or other in her shop and my brothers and sister are too far off to travel too on my own, so I was going to bug Silva... but he's gone." Soho nodded, knowing exactly what she meant. Then she paused, cocking her head. "What was life like in the fleet? Or do you even remember?" "Some of it's fuzzy, like some names and faces that I can't really recall. Kinda like a dream that's been half forgotten. What I remember the most, though, is how fu-- freaking limited it is." Least she felt it was that way. "Because of all the rules you had to follow. Some really like it, though. But I like it better here." "... Except... Losing contact with some of my siblings." She said more softly than the rest. "But we're cousins now!" Soho said. "We can break into toy stores together! I did it with Marne. It's lots of fun!" "You... broke into a toy store??" Bav asked, a little amazed by that idea. Who knew that this little red would do something like that? Then she grinned. "What did you do once in? Find anything good?" "Well, we wrecked a hummer and made out with one of the GI Joes." She said, looking thoughtful. "Oh, and we checked out Barbie's stuff, but we liked the hummer better." "You shoulda kept the hummer, if you didn't wreck it." Bav snickered. "Or at least got it to me! I might coulda fixed it up! I've been learning how to build stuff, ya know?" "Next time you break into anywhere, I wanna come. But I'm not making out with a G.I. Joe." She wrinkled her nose at that. If she was going to make out with anyone, then he'd have to respond! "We just wanted to see what was under his pants." Soho explained with a sunny smile. The hope feien started to laugh at that. A real, doubling over kind of laugh that only her siblings got from her. Once she had found a break in her laughing and got her breath, she spoke again. "What did you find??" "Nothing much! But he had these weird joints for his knees." Soho said. "But I've never seen a feien as big as this guy was. His arms were as big as my head!" At this, Bav made a low whistle. "Was he bigger than a feien? Or was he about as tall at Silva or Aleric? Cuz if he was bigger, then it would figure his arms would be bigger!" "He was shorter than both of them." Soho said, shaking her head. "Humans have strange anatomy ideas." ".... Yes, they do.... " Bav answered as her fact twisted in a funny way. Then she shook her own head. "So... what's with this beach thing anyway?" "Mister Silva Demon likes to surf." Soho explained. "But every time Aleric tries he wipes out. I'm good at it! But I don't last very long." "I've never surfed before. Is it fun?" Bav asked lightly. Would she even enjoy surfing? She had no idea. But hell, it was worth the try if she could impress people! "It is if you can swim." Soho said. "Can you swim?" Bav opened her mouth to repond, then closed it again as a deep red flush crept on her face. She tried to play it off, however. "Naaa... Dunno how to swim, never needed too before." She admitted as smoothly as possible. "Want to learn?" Soho asked. "Nack's much better at teaching than I am, but we can figure it out!" She didn't seem bothered in the least by the fact that Bav didn't know. Which made Bavaria feel all the more better. She smirked slightly. "Alright. Long as I can touch the bottom, I should be fine." She said and got on her feet. Learning how to swim! It should be fine, right? Soho got to her feet and reached for Bav's hands, backing into the waves. "First you have to get your feet wet!" She said cheerfully. "I don't see how I can't if I'm entering like this." Bav drawled lightly, letting Red drag her into the water. "Wonder if Bruns, Mun and Ber know how to swim? Bet ya anything Bruns'll say no, just to have you teach him." "Oooh, and then maybe I can cop a feel!" Soho said, looking happy with the idea. "A little further now, until you're up to your thighs." She said, still pulling. Bav broke out into another laugh at that. "Girl, he would enjoy it if you did!" She grinned, then glanced at the water so she could see where it was on her, rather than just feel it. Normally she took a shower under a fosset. "I bet Mister Silva Demon knows a lot more about sex than I do, though. I once saw him doing it with his lady friend." Soho said guilelessly. "She had him pinned against the santa statue and she was moaning and groaning..." "Then maybe spy on them more to learn?" Bav offered up. The b*****d had a girl? That figured. He was probably too busy with her to tend to their further training. Jerk! "Cuz if he knows, then maybe you could learn stuff for later." ":Nah, I'd rather figure it out first hand." Soho said. "I know that it feels really good if you rub right between the wings! But it's hard to reach there..." She pulled the other female in a little further. "And since I know that I get to be a lolita!" "Um.... ok? Why?" Bav had to asked, raising a brow slightly. Then she looked to the water again, hoping this would be good enough seeing how the water was now up to her waist. Her cloth wings were some-what floating on top of the water, trailing behind her. "Because that's what Mister Silva always said I was." Soho said cheerfully. "Now sit back and try to float in the water. But I'm almost a year old now, so I'm not sure if it's legitimate or not." "But you're still little!" Bav answered with a nod. "I'm almost 3 months on Gaia now." Then she started to squat down to go on to her back. "Um... how am I to float, anyway? Just.. lay back?" She felt weird doing this. "Kick your legs and move your arms a little while you're doing it." Soho said. "But I don't know if I'll ever grow up." She went on. "Maybe I'll be a juvenile for the rest of my life, and then what?" She asked. "Maybe I should ask Bruns if he'll do it with me. I don't want to die only having kissed my best friend and doing it with a plastic toy..." Bav choked on another laugh. "He'd probably do it too. Kiss you that is. Cuz he rather likes you and Marne." Once that was said (and obviously she didn't mind telling her brother's feelings), she started to lay back and take her feet off the sanding bottom. Having no idea how to balance herself in the water, her head promptly went under and she shot back up, sputtering. Then gave the water a good glare before trying it again. Water was not going to best her! "You think?" Soho asked, starting to float herself. "I mean, he wouldn't ask any questions or expect anything out of it, would he? Because I love Mister Silva Demon." "Um... how do you mean?" The other girl asked as she again attempted the floating on water thing. After watching Soho do it, she laid back in the water, this time expecting her head to go under as it did and bring it back up. The topic of loving Silva she figured that that love was like the love she had for her siblings. Nothing more. "Well..." Soho said, looking thoughtful. "I like being with him! and I'm sad when he's away, and I like to cuddle with him..." Bav jerked, almost going under the water again. Then her violet eyes looked over at the other girl. "You mean with Bruns??" That was who she was thinking of when she had asked. Or did she mean Silva? She looked back up at the sky, frowning slightly. "No, I haven't cuddled with Bruns yet." Soho said. "I mean Mister Silva Demon." "Oh..." Bav answered. The frown grew a little bit more. "But what about his ladyfriend? Think she'd mind? Cuz that could cause some problems if she does." Hell, it might cause problems all the way around. "I know, but I can share!" Soho said. Yeah, but could this ladyfriend? What happends if she can't? Or if Silva doesn't feel just the same for Red? All of this was causeing a strange whirrl of emotions through her. After all, Red was like extended family and family was really important to Bav. She let out a great sigh, making her bob slightly in the water. "You're going to be a heart breaker, aren't you?" She drawled lightly, shaking her head. "Do you think so?" Soho asked. "That would be fun!" That caused a light laugh from the Bavaria. "You would think it's fun. Admit it, you're really evil with a really thing candy coating! And people just don't know it!" She teased. Soho just grinned her angelic little smile. "I've always loved candy." She said noncommitantly.

A cool chill filled the air and Silva looked around, chewing on his toothpick for a long moment before he did anything. He was in the woods... at least, some woods. He didn't quite remember ever being here before. The chilled air tugged at his wings, trying to pull him away, but he ignored it, staring into the shadows of the trees for a long moment before he moved forward.
A sickeningly sweet smell drifted on the air, catching his nostrils and making them flare for a brief moment as he registered what it was. Blood. Ahead of him was something freshly killed, its lifeblood dripping slowly to the ground. He swore he could almost hear it. Drip by slow, steady drip, falling to a dead leaf lying on the dead grass.
He moved forward, making his way through the air silently, even as he could hear his own heart trying to beat harder. He didn't let it. Death was nothing he hadn't dealt with before.
The smell grew stronger, making his ears twitch and a cold uncertainty p***k at his spine. This wasn't making sense and it was starting to piss him off. How in the hell had he gotten to this place in the first place? He lived in the suburbs, for crying out loud. And--
He jerked to a halt as he came to a clearing, staring at the sight in front of him with no visible reaction at all. He had found the victim, he thought as he stared up at Ice's body. She was pinned to a tree, her arms high over her head, tied with blood soaked rope. Her body was covered barely in tattered, bloodstained rags, her head was hanging down.
"Silva..." She whispered hoarsely, almost making him jump. "Silva... I'm... sorry..." She looked up, ever so slowly, as if the very movement sapped at what little energy she had left. "I... always... loved you."
The head dropped and she breathed out one single last time before her entire body went still. Silva jerked as his heart pounded against his chest once. Then stopped completely.
His small, lifeless body fell slowly to the ground, the wind tugging at his wings and pulling him with ********!" Silva bellowed as he jerked awake, staring blindly at the room in front of him. He was on his stuffed tiger bed on the backboard of Ice's bed, and he was still alive.
Someone sniffled from the bed before the sniffling turned to wails of an unhappy baby. Silva glanced down at Walter lying there, crying his head off dispassionately, even as the door of the room burst open and Ice came in.
"Oh, baby, what's the matter?" She asked as she scooped up her forgotten. Oblivion looked up from where she was still on the bed, her eyes gleaming red from her reaction to Walter's tears. "Silva! Did you wake Walter?"
"Probably." Silva drawled, trying to slow down his breathing. His heart was still trying to beat hard against his chest. The look he sent the kid in her arms was not very nice, to say the least. He had the nightmare and the kid got the cuddling? That was bullshit, if he had ever heard it. Not that he would cuddle even if she offered, but dammit--
Walter turned, his tear filled eyes focusing on the red feien for a long moment before he laid his head on Ice's shoulder, listening silently to the beating of her heart.

"So they're gone." Silva said as he tossed the note they had been left aside. "Good riddance."
"You don't mean that." Aleric said as he leaned down and scooped up the sheet gently.
"Like ******** I don't mean it." Silva growled as he turned to look at his brother. "It was only a matter of time. It's a curse or something..." He added as he looked away, running a hand over his face. "I'm getting old. And hell, I've always known it would wind up this way."
"You aren't alone." Aleric said.
"What? Going to tell me I've got you?" Silva asked with a snort as he turned toward the purple male. "Not interested."
"Soho--,"
"Don't." Silva snapped.
Aleric nodded, falling silent again. After a long moment he pulled out his flute, bringing it to his lips with a hesitant motion. Silva watched him, not even arguing as he usually did with the other feien brought out the flute. Maybe he didn't care. Or maybe he just wanted to not feel the anger rushing through his veins, mixed with a hopelessness
The music rushed over him, slowly at first, twisting through the air and around him, messing with his head for a long moment before Silva nodded. The anger was gone, replaced with a sad sense of resign. Aleric's heart was breaking, and there was nothing either of them could do about it.
"So what happens next?" Silva asked calmly after a long moment.
"We go on. We find others. Or we don't." Aleric said softly. "There is more to life than love."
Silva stared at his reflection in the glass of Aleric's aquarium home, taking in the scowling lines of his face, along with the bloodshot golden eyes. He hadn't slept in a while, either. The shop was gone, Soho was trying to crawl into his bed at night, and his girl had left with only a ******** note to say she was going.
Yeah. Life was just a box of chocolates. Or something like that.

Quote: The Short Goodbye - Dee and Gala come by to say goodbye, since they're going on a voyage. Gala asks Silva for a favor. Silva was sound asleep on top of his stuffed tiger, his wings spread to either side so he could lay on his back, his toothpick stuck behind his teeth so it didn't choke him while he was sleeping. And he was having a feien wet dream. A curvy little female was rubbing against him, making sweet little sounds as his hands automatically found the spot between her wings. For a second she had Ruya's face, then Averno's, each one staring down at him in lust as she let out another little cry. He liked her cries. His fingers rubbed a little harder, just enough to earn a gasp and a tremble. "Oh... oh... oh my gawd--" The scream that came next made him jerk awake in a second, his jaw dropping open as he realized just what had happened. Soho was on top of him, but-- "Oh ********." He shouted, jerking out from under the now fully grown female feien, his hand fumbling as he pulled his toothpick out from behind his ear. Soho laughed through her heavy panting, pushing herself up only to fall to the tiger again in a limp mass of trembling flesh. "Mis--Mr. Silva Demon... is very good at that." She said, sighing happily. "Dammit, Soho, what in the hell do you think you were doing?" He demanded, still shaking ever so slightly. He had ********> his own bonddaughter! "Oh s**t..." He muttered, rubbing his forehead. "Aleric's going to kill me..." "What's the matter, Mr. Silva Demon?" She asked, crawling towards him and reaching out. "It's not a bad thing! It felt good!" "Dammit, Soho, don't you get what just happened?" He demanded irritably. "You took advantage of me!" Soho started laughing, almost rolling with amusement at that thought. Then she pulled herself up, looking innocent once again. "Then I need to make it up to you!" She said cheerfully. "I think I know what all you did... I might need some practice--" His eyes narrowed as his control snapped back into place. "Darlin, what did I tell you about sleeping around?" "But this isn't sleeping around. This is having sex!" She said before looking down. "Look Mr. Silva Demon, I have BOOBS!" He groaned. His head was throbbing and who KNEW what he had just started? Knowing Soho she would want to "Share the love." And then not only would she be crawling into his bed at night--she'd be--lord, who knew who all the girl would practice her techniques on? "But you're not really my first." She said, making him jerk again and raise an eyebrow. "Marne and I snuck into a toystore once and we found a G.I. Joe! And he--" "I don't want to know." He said with a snort. "Go take a cold shower darlin, because this isn't going to happen again." "Awwww." She said. "But I don't think I can." "Why not?" "Because I can't really move right now." She said, flopping down on the tiger and promptly falling asleep. Silva growled and took to the air, heading for the bathroom to take his own cold shower. He felt dirty.

It was a cold day, where the wind caught you under the wings and sent a shiver down your spine, even if you were used to being in the cold. Silva scowled as he made his way through the air, heading for a slightly woody area near the edge of the suburbs. He had to get away from Soho. She had been torturing him ever since she had grown, just by being there.
He slipped through the tree limbs of the overgrown woods, not bothered by the fact that snow still clung to them. He needed a nap, and silence. Not necessarily in that order. And he found the spot, a high limb where the cold sun could even reach. With that in sight he made his way up to it, landing lightly on the limb before he dropped down, sprawling as if it were the most comfortable bed in the universe.
He promptly fell asleep, unknowing that a small ancient feien was doing her holiday shopping in those very woods.
"I'll need something for Bruns and Evie..." Callisto said, tugging the small scrap of cloth she had stolen from Shade's drawers a little closer around herself. She rather liked the heart pattern that it had, but she still wasn't sure what he would need such a skimpy piece of silk for. It was much more apporpriate for her, thank you very much. And the black looked good against her skin. "I should have come earlier..." She muttered as she flew higher instinctually. She wanted to get closer to the light. The limbs of the trees still blocked too much of it for her tastes.
"A flower, or a berry--," She added to herself, jerking as she caught a sight of red amongst the brown. That had to be something! Maybe a feather! Evie would love a feather, she was sure, especially a red one-- She raced (for her, she was rather slow) to the color, landing on the limb and leaning down to grab the red object, only to let out a scream as a large, tanned hand shot out, dragging her down.
Strong, immovable arms wrapped around her, holding her against a rock hard body. Her eyes widened as she stared at it for a long moment, completely taken off guard until a deep, sleepy laugh made the chest rumble.
"You should see your face, darlin." A deep tenor voice that rasped on her skin said. She went perfectly still, forcing herself to look up at the feien that held her captive. Fear, cold as ice and overwhelming hit her as she recognized him.
"Silva." She whispered in horror.
"I'm glad you remember." Silva said. His long fingered hand tangled in her hair as the other wrapped a little more tightly around her waist. He was holding her like a lover, she thought, feeling sick to her stomach.
"Don't you dare touch me." She growled, jerking helplessly at his hold.
"That look..." He said, a hint of something she didn't recognize crossing his face. "It makes me want to bully you. I haven't done s**t like that in years."
"You're such a liar."
An evil, evil smile crossed his face as the hand holding her waist moved upwards, touching the base of her wings as his elbow pinned her to him. Her eyes widened even more before narrowing, scathing hatred on her face as she slammed her tiny fist against his chest. "Stop it, you b*****d." She hissed, hating him even more with every second. "I hate you!"
His hand slipped away, falling down so it dangled over the side of the branch. She jerked away, taking to the air and staring down at him with angry tears threatening to fall. It was an unreasonable fear, she realized. Or was it? His hands had been so large, his hold so powerful. It was as if she had escaped the grasp of a monster. But before she could leave he was floating in front of her, a scowl on his lips.
"Don't--," She gritted out, moving backwards.
"I don't like your bond." He said plainly. "I'm not going to lie about it, or deny it. But I don't hurt women." His hand came up, brushing at the tear that trickled free with his thumb. "Especially slow weaklings like you."
Her eyes narrowed. He was going to regret those words, she swore. He was going to fear her like she feared him, if it was the last thing she did.
With that she turned with a trounce, heading away from him as quickly as she could.
She had no idea that he let her go out of his own free will.

Life had been hell since Walter had gotten older. Silver stared moodily out at the snow covered trees, chewing on his toothpick. He, Aleric, and Soho had wound up shacking up in a tree in the forest near Ice's house, just waiting for the toddler to stop driving people insane with nightmares. It didn't help Silva that he kept waking up with Soho curled up against his side.
She claimed it was too cold to sleep alone, but he was positive she was just trying to tempt him again. Damn, twisted little brat. If she was going to chase one of her bonddaddies, it should have been Aleric. At least Aleric would have known what to do with her. Not that Silva didn't know-- He snorted, tossing the toothpick away.
"We gotta go back."
"Are you sure?" Aleric asked, looking up from where he was writing in a tiny notebook.
"It's three inches of snow out there. And it doesn't look to be getting warmer anytime soon."
"In the old times, Feien often used to--,"
"You remember what you used to do, old man?"
"Well, no, but--,"
"You also realize that while I might live a while without Ice, you two won't?" Silva went on ruthlessly. "And as entertaining as having another stone of my own sounds, I'd rather not be stuck dragging two of them back to Ice's place."
"I found berries!" Soho called from the air, dropping down on the branch in front of him. "I don't think they're poisonous this time." She added, holding them out to him.
"You don't think?" He asked. "Darlin, if you don't know that they're not poisonous, don't get them! Besides, you can only carry two at a time."
"I had three!" She said, looking irritated. "But one fell off."
Silva took a deep breath, feeling his headache getting worse. "Toss them all, darlin. We're going home." He stood, stretching his arms over his head and rolling his shoulders. "I miss my weights. And the brats are probably having too much fun with my books."
A tiny smile played on Aleric's face as he stood as well. He had been waiting for Silva to make the right decision. "What about the nightmares?" He asked the white haired feien curiously.
"They won't kill us."
"I don't like nightmares." Soho said softly, tossing the berries to the ground and taking to the air. "They're scary. I don't like remembering--,"
"Darlin, you're a grown up now."
"But--,"
"That means you need to damn well grow up. Got it?" Silva said harshly, earning a wounded look from her. "s**t happens. You can't forget it, no matter what you do, and if you have nightmares about it, it's your own damn fault for getting in the situation to begin with."
"Silva." Aleric said.
"Don't start on me, old man." Silva snapped. "We all remember what happened."
They fell silent as they flew, heading through the trees at a smooth, easy pace, none of them willing to rush back.
It was cold, but not cold enough to make them really want to face the nightmares of the past.

Quote: Dear Diary: Oh lord, what a time to be writing one of these... I've only had my baby girl, Kitsumai for a month or so and I've already lost her. What kind of guardian am I? Okay, breathe, stay calm and focused.... I spent the day searching all the places I had been with Kitsu before, the park, the ice rink, stores, she wasn't there. With each step I fought off more depression, telling myself that she'd be at the next place we went. Well, guess what? She wasn't there and now I'm just plain scared. She can't speak, okay? She can't speak and she's too gentle to fight if someone attacked her, and my baby--my baby could be out ******** COPS WHY WON'T THEY LOOK FOR HER YET?? You can DIE in twenty-four hours! Deep breaths, callllmmm... okay. If she comes back--no, I won't think that way. WHEN she comes back I can't let her read this. I don't want her to think I didn't have faith in her, or anything. It's not her I don't have faith in. It's everyone else. She's got such a pure heart, and she's been through so much already. And when she comes back I'm never going to yell at her for crying ever again. She can cry all she wants, dammit! Just as long as I can hold her when she does. She's my baby, my newest baby, if not the youngest. And I can't stand knowing that she's out there all alone. At least if it was Walter he'd have Oblivion. But Kitsu... Kitsu has no one of her own. Baby... wherever you are, I hope you're not alone. I love you. Come home safely, baby. The tapping on the window made Ice glance up, her heart pounding too hard for a moment before she recognized the familiar faces in the window. Without a thought she shoved herself to her feet, heading over to open it. "What the ******** do you think you were doing, woman?" Silva demanded, wiping the snow off of his large, scaled wings. She had forgotten that he was only eight and a half inches tall. It had been so long since she had seen him last. "Ice?" Aleric asked, completely ignoring his brother. "Is there a problem?" "Kitsu--." Ice said, taking a deep breath. "Kisa?" Soho offered. "No. Kitsumai. She's an orphen that I adopted while you three were gone. She's missing." She said, dropping down on the edge of her bed again, as if her legs couldn't hold her weight. "I've searched everywhere. But I can't find her. She's just a child, and she can't speak, and she's not even the type to defend herself. Silva--," She turned, looking at the feien with pleading eyes. Silva twitched slightly, fingering his toothpick for a moment before heading for his things in the closet. A little while later he came back wearing the cloak he had gotten a long time ago. Charon's cloak, named after the ferryman that escorted people across the river in hell. "Don't close the window again." "Wait. Here's a picture of her." Ice said before he could leave, handing him the sheet. "I'll go with him." Aleric said. "Soho, stay here. Keep Ice company." He said as the two male feien flew out the window, leaving a cold breeze billowing the drapes. It was kind of sad, Ice thought as a sense of relief came over her, that her strongest support was only eight and a half inches tall and had a bad attitude.

Silva dropped down on the windowsill, standing there for a long moment as he leaned against the frame, staring out at the night. He didn't say anything, even though Soho and Aleric had gotten home almost three hours before, admitting defeat.
He couldn't find her, dammit, and it was something that he didn't want to admit to his bond, no matter what. The only problem was that he knew he would have to if he spoke. So he said nothing, merely stared out at the night sky, wondering just what in the hell made him think he was good enough for this family.
He fingered his toothpick for a long moment, pulling it out of his mouth, then putting it back in. There was no point, he thought, to being a man if you couldn't even take care of what belonged to you. Sure, logically he knew he didn't even know the brat, but she belonged to Ice, therefore she belonged to HIM.
He kept staring blindly into the night, even though he could see everything there, down to the smallest patch of snow melting. He barely even noticed Ice crossing the room and sitting on the hope chest next to the window.
"It's okay, Silva," she said softly.
"Like ******** it is," he replied, not looking at her.
"It's okay, because if it's not okay for you, then I'm just as guilty," she said firmly. "Even more guilty. I was here when she was taken."
He finally turned, looking at her with a cold gaze. "You aren't me."
"Dammit Silva, let me comfort you already!" Ice almost yelled, the tears she had been fighting all day finally coming out. "My baby girl is out there somewhere, doing something, and hopefully not DEAD, and you finally came home from God knows where, doing God knows WHAT and hopefully not DEAD, and I just need--"
"Be quiet woman," Silva said calmly, loosening his hold on his toothpick as he looked at her. Slowly he took to the air, landing on her shoulder and sitting down with his back against her neck. He hadn't sat there since he was a kid, he thought as he leaned against her, but it felt comfortable enough. "Why'd I have to get stuck with such a messed up bond?"
She stood, laughing a slightly bittersweet laugh as she headed down the hall and outside onto the back porch. It was freezing, but she ignored it, focusing on calming down. "I missed you," she whispered. "I'm only now just realizing how much."
"You probably missed Soho and the old man more," he said. "They're a hell of a lot better company."
"Maybe," she agreed. "Aleric's a lot sweeter than you are. So is Soho, for that matter. But sometimes I need something that's not sweet and gentle."
He stayed silent, turning slightly to look up at the moon. "I'm a real b*****d. You know that, don't you?"
"Yeah, I know," she agreed.
"Ever honest, aren't you?" he said dryly, a hint of amusement showing through. "I was perfectly fine with skipping out and leaving you to deal with the nightmares on your own."
"I didn't mind," Ice said. "Some people have worst nightmares than others."
"If I was a ********' man I would just deal with them."
"Even men don't like nightmares, Silva," Ice said. "Especially when those nightmares are based on real life." She wasn't about to mention that he wasn't a man, he was a fairy. He would probably get mad at her.
"Tomorrow..." he said, not replying to that comment, "I'll go look for her again."
"We both will," Ice agreed. "But Aleric and Soho were starving when they got home earlier. I'm betting you haven't had much to eat either, have you?"
"It depends," he said. "Do you have any cherries?"
"Will marichino work?"
"I guess it'll have to."

For a long moment Silva stayed in the air, watching as the little female feien slept peacefully on the cabbage. She looked comfortable there, complete with a pair of silk heart covered mens' underwear as a blanket, and a tiny little cup of water to the side. The spray bottle on the table looked a bit less full than it could have been as well. He got the feeling that she had been living like this for a day or two.
He watched her sleep, taking in her perfect body and those swirling markings that she had with a slight smirk. She was gorgeous, he would be the first to admit. But that wasn't the thing that interested him the most. He liked that look of terror she got whenever he got near.
With that thought he dropped down on the cabbage, walking over and spreading his wings so he blocked out her precious light. He was a bully, he knew, but he hadn't found someone that reacted instinctively to him like this in years. He missed it.
Still asleep, Calli curled into herself, hating the lack of light and waiting for the cloud to move away from the sun again. When that didn't happen she cracked an eye open, glaring at the sky only to realize that someone was standing in the way. The glare turned to horror and she scooted away from the tall feien as fast as she could. "Why are you here?"
"Your bond wrote a note," Silva said. "And, lucky for you, he left his address in big bold letters at the bottom, inviting my bond over to see his new brat."
"He invited Ice, not you," she said, fighting the urge to run. Then abruptly she realized where she was. "Get away from my cabbage!" she said, kicking out to try and hit his legs. He avoided the kicks easily, still fingering his toothpick.
"Already feeling attached?" he asked curiously.
"I have to live with it, and I will not have your dirty personality rubbing off on him!" she replied, her anger and fewar mixing on her face and turning into desperate determination. She kicked out again, but he avoided it, moving closer.
"Aleric will be coming as soon as he sees the note," he said calmly.
"Aleric? Why?"
"Because ever since his girl left, you're the one he's been thinking about," Silva replied. "He feels guilty about that fact, too. It's damn funny, if you ask me."
"I'd rather have Aleric think about me than you," she said, turning her nose into the air. It would have worked better if he hadn't been standing over her.
"Well that's too bad, darlin'," Silva said. "Because Aleric's not going to get you."
"What does my relationship with Aleric have to do with you?" she asked, not about to mention that she had no interest in Aleric, or a relationship at all, for that matter.
"One, he's my brother, and two, I want you for myself," Silva said bluntly, starting to lean forward. She went still, a look of horror and astonishment in her eyes. But before Silva did anything the cabbage started to rock. It split down the center and Calli went tumbling backwards, sure she would fall to her doom only to lose her breath as she was caught from above.
Her heart pounded against her chest as relief hit her. She hadn't fallen. Then she realized that it wasn't only her heart that she was hearing pound. She tried to jerk away from Silva's hold, feeling far too close to him once again. She hated being this close to him, it made her skin crawl. It was like being held by pure evil. She looked up, about to demand that he let go of her, when she realized that he wasn't even looking at her. He was looking at the cabbage.
She turned, still stuck firmly in his arms, and looked down at the little boy lying in the cabbage, watching them curiously with big blue eyes. This, she thought in wonder, was Shade and her new baby.
"Looks like it's a boy," Silva drawled in amusement. His hand shifted, touching the base of her wings in a way that made her positive he had done it on purpose, regardless of how casual the motion seemed. For a moment heat ran through her treacherous body before she jerked away from him completely and flew to the baby.
There were more important things to think about than Silva copping a feel right now, she told herself forcefully. Like how in the world she was going to take care of the baby while Shade was still out shopping!

"I'm cooooming!" Soho yelled as someone knocked on the door for the millionth time. It was driving her insane, honestly, she had been in the middle of watching music videos on Youtube! Rancid shows, RANCID!
She fumbled with the special string on the doorknob, then backed up and used her speed to open it, since her weight and her strength weren't about to do it. The door opened on its own and she peeked out, eyeing Shade and the baby in his arms blankly before she said anything. "We've got enough, thank you."
"Enough?" Shade asked blankly.
"Uh huh! We've got Kitsu and Walter and Oblivion and me, Silva, Aleric, Jade--,"
"Oh!" Shade said, tugging the little boy up higher on his hip. "I'm not giving him to Ice. He's mine, right, kiddo?"
Anthony looked at him with a sweet smile before turning back to Soho and waving. "Hi," he said.
"Well he IS cute," Soho admitted. "He can share a room with Walter!"
"I just said--," Shade started out.
"We're not taking him, Soho," Ice said as she stepped into sight behind the little feien. "And I don't remember inviting you here, Shade."
"I sent a note," Shade replied, "but you never came. So we decided to come to you! Well, except for Calli. She refuses to come anywhere that has Silva on a regular basis."
"Oh," Ice said, wondering what was going on between her oldest and the ancient feien that made that so. Knowing Silva it was his fault, though. "Well... I guess you can come in. For a little while, at least."
"Thanks, Sweet!" Shade said as he walked in, leaning forward to kiss her on the cheek before she realized it. "You look beautiful, you know?"
"Shut up, Shade," she replied, but without the anger she had used when he had first gotten to Gaia. He took it as a good sign. "So, what's your name, sweetie?" she asked Antony, sure that he could talk by how he had greeted Soho.
"Antony," Antony said.
"Anthony?"
"No, Antony."
"Oh," Ice said, glancing up at Shade with a raised eyebrow.
"It's a good name," Shade replied. "He's cute, huh? Bathed and everything. Heck, he's cleaner than I am!"
"I'm not surprised," Ice said. "Do you want a drink, Antony?"
"Yes, please?" the baby boy said, giving her his cutest smile. Then his eyes fell as he felt someone watching him. There, behind Ice, was a small golden blonde haired boy that looked as if he had been playing in the trash all morning. His pants were torn over one knee, his feet were bare, and a metal monstrosity loomed behind him, its eyes glowing red.
Antony's eyes narrowed slightly, but his adorable smile didn't diminish in the least.
"Mommy, I want a drink!" Walter said, grabbing Ice's hand and giving her an adorable smile, one that rivaled the blue boy's. "And a cookie!"
"Not until after dinner," Ice said sternly, walking right past him. Walter turned, eyeing the impeccibly dressed little boy closely. Usually he made friends pretty quickly, honestly. But there was something about this one--
"Can I have a cookie, please?" Antony asked sweetly.
"Sure, kid," Shade said.
Walter's eyes narrowed. THIS meant war.

Things had been quiet... lonely, too, but hell, he was used to that by now. Silva sat on the windowsill, staring out at the sheet of snow that covered the backyard. It was perfect for snowboarding. That was obvious by the way that Nick and Nack had yanked his board and headed out early this morning, way before he had ever woken up.
Soho was buried in a pile of blankets in her little glass room, and Aleric... he glanced over at his brother, watching silently for a moment as the other feien scratched out yet another word on his pad, Aleric was writing an epic novel. Silva had never understood that urge, but it seemed to be something that bonded Aleric and Ice, so he guessed it was worth something.
He chewed absently on his toothpick, wondering if he should join the two on the snow. Wondering if he should start his workout routine early, or if he should actually leave the house for once. It had been a while since he had left the house. Even with the nightmares that went on, he had stayed.
Maybe he felt guilty, he thought idly, for leaving Ice during that time. But when had he last felt guilt for anything? Well... actually... he had felt a little guilty for not having killed that psycho sonuvabitch earlier.
He shook that thought off, still staring at the blinding snow. "Oye, old man," he called over to his brother, ignoring the fact that by this time he was old as well. "What are you writing about?"
"I've been thinking," Aleric said as he turned to the taller male. "It would be interesting to see how we would be in a different setting. I mean, not that that would ever happen, with our bond with Ice, of course, but it makes for an interesting story."
"So in other words, you're writing about me."
"No, well, actually yes," Aleric said. "But a different you."
Silva snorted. "Sounds like bullshit to me," he said simply. "There is no other me." He was lying, and he knew it. There was another Silva. He hadn't thought of the man for a very long time, but there was one. And then there was Snake...
"But wouldn't it be interesting?" Aleric asked. "If there were parallel universes, each with the same people, but different situations, maybe even different personalities. Does nature create the personality, or nurture? Would we, perhaps, be enemies in a different setting? Would Soho? All of the factors that brought us together are purely luck, don't you think?"
"What, never heard of destiny?"
"But what if there is more than one destiny?" Aleric asked. "Do you remember when we were in Mexico? With the insane man running loose here? What if we had never gotten out? What if we were still there now?"
"But we aren't," Silva said simply.
"But we could have been," Aleric replied. "Or what if we were in the past? Before feien required bonds to survive. What would we have been like then?"
Silva fell silent, playing with his toothpick as he thought the question over. It was a good one, he admitted silently. If he weren't bonded to Ice there was no doubt in his mind that he wouldn't be living with Aleric. And he was pretty sure he wouldn't have adopted Soho as his daughter, either.
"Don't know," he said finally, sounding as if he didn't really care as he closed his eyes, leaning his head against the window sill. "You ever wonder if you're not the man you used to be, old man?"
"All the time," Aleric said quietly.
"Regrets?"
"None," Aleric said. "At least not now. You?"
"I don't regret s**t," Silva said. It was something he found himself asking more and more often as he got older. Morbid, he decided as he shoved himself to his feet, crossing over to where his weights were. Morbid because somewhere in the back of his mind was the thought that soon... soon he would die.
He was getting older, after all. He lifted one weight, bringing it up to his chin in a curl as he stared out at the snow, watching Nick and Nack climb to the top of the hill that made up their backyard.
"Old man... I been thinkin."
"Yes?" Aleric asked.
"I don't want to die just yet."
Aleric fell silent. "Why are you thinking this now?"
"Isn't just now," he said. "Been thinking it for a while."
"Then what will you do about it?" Aleric asked. "And will you do it alone?"
"Not sure yet," Silva said, switching hands. "But I expect something will occur to me." He looked over at Aleric. "If I do it... you gonna come with me?"
"You know I will," Aleric said. "Someone has to watch you."
Silva smirked slightly. "That's right."
"Soho will want to come as well."
"She's young. She's still got plenty of time."
