ahh finaly somthing I can help with...First of all I don't care what people tell you about thicker reeds having better tone, the only thing the thickness helps with it breath controll, have a lot of air? use a thicker reed. Don't have a great lung compacity (or are asthmatic)? try a thinner reed. I play on a Rico royal 2.5. Another thing that makes a huge differance is where the air hits the reed. Try aiming over the top(like a flute) with hot soggy air, it will darken the tone and clean up the pitch. Also try to hook your air so though it initialy boows over the top of the reed, imagine it spiraling down and comming out the bell just to bounce up and ring. it sounds silly but it works. Good luck!

1. vandoren reeds are tough in the first place. 2. the thickness of your reed has nothing to do with how good a player you are, you shouldnt be playing a 4 unless you absolutely NEED to. 3. more air will make the tone stronger 4. swell posture
and ur ready to go. :]

Good luck! ...ok the first part about thick and thin reeds made sense....but the rest was just nonsense. NEVER play a clarinet like a flute, they are not similiar in any way...AT ALL. never push breath out over the top of the mouth piece. go as low as you can. aim for a dark, smooth, centered sound with great core. ...yeah it sounds sexy. xD
