Liv blinked as something hit her on the forehead, and looked up just in time to see Sarah mouth the word "Sorry" over her shoulder. "Goober," she mouthed back. She had only just unfolded the first one when the second one landed on her desk.
What is with that girl today, she wondered to herself, putting the first aside to read the second.
Can I have you notes? I have nothing on my paper. luv you.
"Oh Sarah," she whispered to herself, writing back. Of course. She then tossed it at Sarah, making it bounce off her wrist this time. She noticed that the professor had started directing most of his attention in their direction, so she nervously went back to taking notes. After a while, though, her attention returned to the first note tossed back, which she finished unfolding and read.
Nothing really, my brother called me and said that he lost my book. I also had a weird dream. So, yeah, I'll meet you after class. How about a coffe to go with it? I'll buy.
Liv grinned. Any excuse for a coffee was a good one in her mind- even more so when the coffee was free of charge. She would take Sarah up on this offer, once they met up outside the auditorium.

Sarah left her day dream again to focus on her friend's note.
"Of course"
She sighed with relief. She saw the professor turn to her and she pretended to take down notes. Instead, she wrote a quick response but then scraped it. Liv's saved her more than once when it came to notes, so it was the same thing day after day.
'God, how long have I been doing this?...' She thought for a moment. 'Too long, I need to get it together. I love this subject but the class is boring' She thought about the arguements she had with Karen, her step-mother, about this
'"Why do you still want to do something with this silly acting?" she protested when Sarah was filling out her application.
"It's not silly. This is something I want to do and you can't stop me."
At the time Karen was about to say something, Sarah's father came home.
"And what is my angel doing?" Her father asked walking into the dining room. "Filling out applications huh? What major are you headed for?"
"Acting, but Karen thinks it's silly"
Her father looked at his wife.
"Silly huh? Well" he stated "Is it silly that this child wants to go after something her mother loved? My first wife was never able to pursue acting or any form of drama at all. Not even in collage. I will hear no more arguing. You've been trying to get her to do something she hated and I've had enough. She will do what she damn well pleases"
His wife was silent for the rest of that week. She also said nothing when Sarah got accepted and was starting to pack her things during the winter break during her senior year.'
She smiled at the thought that her step-mother got told off by her father. She looked at her notebook more closely to see her scribbles.
"'Jareth', 'Hoggle', 'Labyrinth'. My word, I'm losing it now" She then saw the hearts with initals in em. "Damn" She mumbled under her breath and flipped to the next page.
The class droned on for about 40 more mins. The bell finally rang to let out the classes. The professor dismissed them and Sarah got up and went to the back of the aditorium. She stopped and leaned against the wall next to the door and waited for Liv. While waiting, she checked her phone for messages. She had a few voicemail's from her dad and brother nothing too new, but then found a rather disturbing text from Toby;
"I think he's here"
'What the hell does that mean?'

"I was afraid of that..."
"Afraid of what?" Jalin asked as she casually strolled out of the doorway belonging to the building in which Jareth and his party had arrived under. "You mean that your usual magics aren't up to their usual snuff, right? Figures. You of all people know that traveling to the Aboveground limits our abilities."
The mage took a good look at the others beside the Goblin King and noticed their human forms, and she particularly noted the fear brewing in who she assumed to be Hoggle.
"Yer mean that we..." he muttered.
"Yep," she answered before he got a chance to finish his question. "Aboveground city of Megalopolis in the kingdom knows as the United States of America. It's a rather bustling city, I might add, and there are a few things in here that might keep you guys occupied for awhile," she added with a mischievous twinkle in her eye.
Hoggle got up from the sidewalk and dusted off his clothing, which strangely resembled much of what he usually wore when within the Labyrinth.
"Oh dear," Jalin sighed upon realizing this. "We need to get you all a new wardrobe." Warily, she eyed down the Goblin King and concluded that he would attract the most attention of all, particularly his bottom half. "Men in this day of fashion don't go around wearing pantyhose anymore, Jareth, and you'll have to settle for something from the thrift store. My current occupation does not really pay what I usually commission back where we come from."
Hoggle wanted to snigger at the idea that his king would be running around in commoner clothing, even if it was for a short time, but decided against it. At a time like this, it was wiser to tread carefully around his highness, for gods knew what all of this was doing to his mood.

Liv made her way to the back of the auditorium, stopping next to Sarah when she could make her way out of the stream of students. "Here," she said, thrusting a few pages of notebook paper in her friend's direction. "Notes from the class, which are kind of lacking, along with notes from the reading. Which should cover everything I didn't write about in class. This had better earn me a large latte, I'm dying for caffeine this morning." She stopped and quickly fixed the bun she had her hair up in, and then noticed Sarah's face. "Now what's up? You look like someone's told you that you have to take engineering math or something. Or did the book your brother lost mean that much to you?"
She tugged on Sarah's elbow, trying to lead her to the door. As she had said, she was desperate for a java fix before she had to go to her next class: a three-hour-long costuming lab (or as Liv liked to call it, "the dungeon"), where no food or drink was allowed. Even coffee was outlawed, which Liv considered to be one of the ultimate sins against mankind, right up there with murder, rape, and torture.

Sarah felt her elbow being tugged at. "Alright, alright lets get going." She laughed a little at her friend.
She knew how bad Liv's caffine addiction was. Though she would never admit that it was and "addiction" she always called it a fix. They reached the school's cafe, she order a vanilla late and waited for Liv to order.
"The book actually does mean a lot to me. Though I don't know why. It's just weird." She randomly said this as a response to Liv's question from earlier.
She looked at her brother's text and still pondered about it. She had no ex-boyfriend, nor a current boyfriend. So, she was confused by it.
'What does he mean? I'll call him after class. Have Liv there to listen in and embaress him so she can get her information faster.'
Toby liked Liv but she discovered his weakness one fine random day while getting information about her school money from Karen.

"Oh man, that's rough. I remember one time that I misplaced a copy of one of my mom's Anne of Green Gables books. I thought she was going to have a vein explode or something." Liv then turned to the girl behind the counter. "Hi, can I get a caramel and mocha latte, large, skim milk, and whipped cream? Thanks."
When the coffee was handed to her, Liv turned to Sarah and said, "So, what are you up to after classes today? I'll be done once I'm out of the dungeon- Professor McDougall canceled the lighting design class this afternoon because he's not feeling well. It must have been pretty harsh for him to cancel, seeing as he's a pretty fit guy..." Silently, she hoped that Sarah wouldn't start teasing her about the professor, as she was tired of it. Aren't people allowed to have crushes on their younger than usual and incredibly charismatic teachers? she thought to herself, sipping her latte.

"Yeah" Her reply was weak. She sipped her coffe forgetting that it's hot.
"Crap" she said rapidly trying to cool her tounge.
They headed towards their next class. "Well, it isn't soo bad. I mean, he'll find it, if he wants to recive his birthday present that is." A smile played upon her face.
"He know's better. And after the dungon class, I really have nothing to do. What to head to my apartment and hang-out for a little? I mean, if you want we could hang out at the bookstore, or that new Italian place." She tried not to tease her friend. Considering that she's been tormented enough. Besides, she wanted a favor.
"I know, after class we could call my brother and just tease him. Dad told me that he got and actual girlfriend!"

It was a blessing and a curse at the same time to see the infamous Underground mage approach him. Whenever she was in his presence, it meant that something somewhere was wrong, and he was somehow involved in it all.
Lady Jalin was indeed right, as much as he hated to admit that to himself. He and his party were Aboveground, and that in itself took a hefty tax on what magical abilities he had remaining. Add the fact that he did not perform the proper ceremony for the interdimensional travel, the Goblin King was left with practically no magic whatsoever. Usually before, he would appear in the form of a barn owl when Aboveground to hide his natural glamour and bypass the extra step of choosing appropriate garb, but he did not even have to try to know that he could not take the form of the fowl to protect him from any wandering eyes.
At a loss, and not enjoying it one bit, Jareth muttered some obscenities a King should never be heard uttering, and motioned for Jalin to lead on. If she was going to treat a king to new clothing, she ought to know the way through this urban maze.
"What did you mean there are things here that will keep us occupied?" he warily asked, knowing that Jalin always had a few tricks up her sleeve as they started down the sidewalk.

Liv snickered at the birthday present comment. "Sarah, that's low," she said, despite her giggles. "But yeah, I'd be willing to come over. Amy's boyfriend is here for the week, and I'd rather not barge in on anything." Liv's roommate was dating an active-duty Air Force officer, who was on leave and had come to visit. Liv liked Amy, and David seemed nice enough, but as she had said, she didn't want to walk into her own apartment and find something she didn't want to going on. As far as she was concerned, privacy was sacred.
"Wait, Toby got a real girlfriend? Oh, our little boy, he's growing up so fast," she joked, pretending to dab away tears.

Sarah started laughing. "I know, it only seems like yesterday I wis...." she closed her mouth quickly. She hadn't thought about anything the concerned her with the labyrinth since she tried to tell herself that it was a mere dream.
"I mean, it only seemed like yesterday that i was watching him for his mother." She laughed weakly. 'Good one, you know Liv better than that.' she thought to herself.
She can't quite remember how she and Liv meet, but she knew that they were close. They were close enough to know that somethings wrong with the other.
"So, after class we go and actually buy his present and then tease him about his girlfriend?" She looked at her watch. "We should get going, we have like 5 minutes to get there." She got up and threw her cup away. "Shall we? At least it's only a 2 minute walk."

"Mm-hm," Liv replied, studying Sarah's face for a moment. It seemed like she had been about to let a huge secret slip, but had caught it in the nick of time. She frowned slightly. She had known Sarah since their freshman year, when they'd been partnered up to work on a project in their algebra course, and they usually didn't keep things from each other. "But yeah, let's get going, and then hit a mall after we escape the dungeon."

"Alright. Deal" She continued to walk towards the next class.
As she said, they were there in less than 2 minutes. As they walked in, they sat at their assigned seats. Usually they wouldn't have seats assigned to them, but since the time the professor was out and a couple of her students pulled a prank on her when she came back, she'd been trying to figure out who set it up.
As the bell rang and class started, Sarah's mind started to drift. She went back to when she left her home and moved into the city. She could hear Toby begging her to stay.
'Please don't leave Sarah! What if he comes back?' Toby cried holding onto his older sister.
Sarah sighed and rolled her eyes. 'He won't come back. He doesn't exsist remember? Now let go, dad and I have to get going'
She tried to yank her arm from him but he grabbed it back from her. She sighed again. 'Karen come get your kid!' She yelled to her step mother.
Karen came in looking more worn down than she did when sarah was still in high school. She remembered back from when she filled out her application. She had to plug her ears more than once and had to fill out more than 3 applications. Karen kept ruining them when she would leave the room to asist Toby in homework. Karen had wanted her to go into buisness and thought it would be more suitible for her. Though she never worked, and had only 2 years of college to her name. Sarah was sick of it and was excited when she was accepted. Toby however, stated having nightmares and weird incounters. Sarah was worried but knew it would past.
'Are you sure he's a myth?' Toby still asked
'Yes, I'm sure. The barn owl just hates me, that's all' Sarah said before Toby could ask about it. Sarah snapped out of her daydream. She looked at her watch and found that even though she dazzed out, there was still 30mins left of class.
'crud.'
