Whenever I lurk in discussions about Sonic on other forums, people seem to agree that lately, Sonic is best when, ironically, not entirely in the hands of Sega. The Sonic Advance/Rush series were handled by Dimps, and they were well-received. Bioware is heading a Sonic RPG, and it seems to be shaping into something really good so far.

And then we come to Sonic's treatment in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a game headed mainly by Nintendo and its developers. It seems to me that people generally love the way he was handled in Brawl. Perhaps it's because of all the nostalgia attached to his appearance. Some people go so far as to say, "That's it. I demand Nintendo make a Sonic game NOW!" xd

That sentiment is what brings me to this question: What if Nintendo were to make a Sonic game?

What would it be like? How would they treat the story, and the rest of the characters? Would this be a good thing?

Honestly, I'm from the camp that doesn't know what to think and what to imagine unless it actually happens. xd

Y'know, actually... I would laugh so hard if Nintendo did what Sega never did: Make a Sonic RPG based on SatAM and/or the Archie Comics. And y'know... if they did... I think I'd actually play it - at least test it out. 3nodding

Nintendo making a Sonic game would probably be the best possible thing for the franchise right now, depending on who (within the company) they got to develop it.
The fact Smash Bros Brawl appears to do the character far, far more justice than every first-party game for the last 8 years is fairly damning for Sega, really.

As someone who's never really been a fan of the Archie comics...I'd have to say I'd pass. sweatdrop I mean, I would feel left out of the loop or something, not knowing very much of the storyline that would be behind it.

I blame this phenomenon on fan-boyism. As in, lot's of Nintendo and such fan-boys that still hate Sega for no good reason, and at the same time want to steal Sega's mascot. lol
Seriously though, the world of video games does often work like that. Like for example, America has a lot of Microsoft fanboys, so the 360 sold very well here. Meanwhile, Japan is mostly still Nintendo, Sega, and Sony fanboys, so the 360 sold like crap over there. Whether a game gets good review or not sometimes depends on the fanboys entirely.....

Don't take this post too seriously, it's just a little rant of mine in all honesty.

Nintendo, making a Sonic game? HA! That will be the day...

That won't happen unless Sega becomes long gone and forgotten, like Acclaim. Only then was Propaganda able to bring back the Turok franchise.

Really? surprised I thought it was to blame on the kind of nostalgia-freak fanboys who are BAAAWWWWWWing over the current state of Sonic games. xp You know, the ones who rabidly make out the 3D games to be festering piles of sh...feces and look to the Genesis games as their lord and savior? lol

Except that most of the 3D games are terrible, and the 2d ones mostly weren't.

It's possible to reach that judgement from an objective standpoint, you know.

But from a phylosophical standpoint, perhaps the 3d games are awesome and people are just too focused on Sonic in 2d to realize this.

By the very use of statements judging the quality of the things concerned you remove yourself from the realm of abstract philosophy.

Socrates many times over judged the quality of things in his philosophical journeys.

Here's a thought that could help both sides of this discussion.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games, that was a game produced by Sega, and that game made sales of over 5 million. One could consider this as proof that Sega can produce a succesful Sonic game, couldn't one?

Thoughts, rebuttals, counterpoints?

If nintendo made a sonic game... hmm...

I'd say it would probably be some kind of mario and sonic game, a token of goodwill towards their long-time rival. The game would be like Sonic Adventure and Mario 64 combined, using both characters in both environment against both foes.
