Seeing the slight worry remaining in Maeko's eyes, Dokuiro took a second to remove the tiny traces of sadness from his. He hadn't meant to worry her - he was so used to being alone. When he was by himself, he could just let out whatever he was feeling. He had forgotten that other Shikoku would be affected by his emotions too - now that Maeko was here, he had to be careful not to make her sad.
Emotions were a lot like falling from a cliff, Dokuiro realised. If you were alone, the only person who felt them was you. But if you had other people with you, they'd fall too.
Of course, sometimes that wasn't a bad thing - like if you were happy and made everyone else happy too. But that couldn't always be the case.
Shaking off his wandering thoughts once again, Dokuiro smiled at Maeko's apprehensive response. "Don't worry. We'll be okay," he told her warmly.
Pointing a paw towards one of the rocks that marked the edge of the beach, Dokuiro grinned and suggested, "We could race to the rock! Wings or feet - personal preference." His wings gave another little flutter as he suggested, "Or we could see who can get the most shells in a few minutes!" His tail whipped the sand around his feet lightly as he offered, "Or we could play Hopscotch or Hide N' Seek or something!"

She felt as if she could trust him, he didn't seem the type to intentionally hurt another. But there was still a small bit of her that felt nervous at whatever activity he came up with. If she was young again she would of went right along, with no second thoughts but as she grew older she grew to understand the many dangers on the island. You had to be careful but then maybe she was just a worrier.
When Maeko watched him point towards the rocks that lined a portion of the beach, she tensed. It looked frightening, what if she slipped into the ocean and the waves pushed her repeatedly against the rocks? Some looked rather sharp. But after Dokuiro's suggestion, she laughed nervously. Her thoughts had got the best of her again.
His other suggestions seemed rather fun too. She had raced to rocks before, by herself usually but always on her paws, never with her wings. Maeko fluttered her wings lightly, she rarely flied, preferring the ground. Shell hunting was lovely, but she did that usually. "What's hopscotch or hide n' seek?" She questioned, never hearing of them before.

Grinning, Dokuiro explained the rules of Hopscotch, drawing a rough version in the sands around his feet. "But you can't jump on the box that the rock falls in," he concluded before going on about Hide N' Seek. "Basically, Hide N' Seek is where one of us hides and the other tries to find them. The Seeker only has a few minutes to do it though, or they lose!"
Suddenly stopping, Dokuiro cocked his head to the right in an adorable show of confusion and asked, "You've really never heard of these games?" He explained, "Human children play these games all the time!"
((Technically, the humans on the island are actually Gaians, but it looked weird to type "Gaian children" so I just put "Human" in there. XD))

"But why not?" Maeko asked, tilting her head to the side as she looked at the diagram he drew in the sand. "How are you supposed to pick up the rock if you cannot step in that box to get it?" Perhaps she'd just have to lean forwards far enough to pick it up with her paw without even touching the box the rock was in.
"Hide N' Seek sounds easy enough." Well considering there didn't seem to be many places to hide unless they moved further away, it seemed easier to find the other.
She shook her head. "No, never. Judging by your reaction, I guess I should of heard of them." She said, a little sad. When she was young she played tag in a meadow or at a stream where she jumped from to rock, trying not to get wet. "Oh?" Maeko was surprised that young human's played those sorts of games, perhaps humans weren't so different from them.
Maeko thought on which game she'd like to play, out of the two he suggested. "I think I'd like to try Hide N' Seek."

Chuckling, Dokuiro told her, "When the turn is over you can go and pick up the rock for the next turn. You can touch the box at that point."
Turning slightly serious, he explained, "Yeah. Human children play these all the time. And since a bunch of Shikoku have human owners, I figured that most Shikoku knew about them ....."
He nodded and then added excitedly, "But you want to play Hide N' Seek? Awesome!" Bouncing in place a few seconds, he asked, "Where do you want to play? Here? And who wants to be the Seeker?"

"Oh." Well she felt dumb now, assuming that she picked it up as she passed by it before turning around and going back to the start point. Maeko looked down at her paws with a small bit of sand sticking to her orange fur.
"A human takes care of me." She looked up. "But my human doesn't play games like that, or at least I've never seen her engage in such activities." She smiled, it was amusing just thinking of her human playing games.
Maeko laughed when she saw how excited he got. From a serious voice to total excitement, quite amusing for her. "Here is good but it seems so easy to find the other. Wouldn't you agree?" Wait, didn't she want it to be easy so she didn't look extremely silly as she tried this game out for the first time? "Maybe over there?" She pointed a paw in the distance where the grass was and some bushes and trees.
"I can find you, if you'd like." The seeker seemed like the easier job, maybe. She was never good at hiding anything, Maeko guessed that could include herself.
