Wow... That was a great read. (I was listenning to the chariots of fire theme in the backround for some reason, haha)

Very well said, and very informative. Interesting to hear about past aquaintences and whatnot.
Next week i'll have the Pro Mai report (which i'm going to on wednesday).

There's a possibility that we'll (me and a mate) will be re-visiting the TKD club we went to as he didn't get to go there.

So they'll be two ridiculously long posts next week and i'll be getting RSI from doing this.........

I think saying martial arts is a sport is just a simpler way to explain the benefits u gain from martial arts to uneducated people who think that martial arts only broaden to ninja's, karate and bruce lee

Martial arts is not really a sport per se. I would say you can only lump TKD and Judo as sports, maybe a couple others, don't really remember right now. I don't think all martial arts are sports though, they are too rich with tradition and spiritual meaning to be considered sports in my opinion.

What about muay thai? Highly rich in tradition and spiritual meaning but is widely accepted as a sport (for good reason though, which doesnt take away from the practicallity of the sports..yet)

Well, boxing, kickboxing, those are technically 'sports', but its dependant on country really. I mean where I live (U.S.) I don't hear much about Muay Thai tournaments and stuff but a bunch about boxing, while in asian countries you probably hear a lot more about kickboxing then straight boxing.
Even still, I think its dependent upon its commercialization. TKD and Judo have been recognized as sports in things like the Olympics and stuff, putting them in teh main stream. Boxing is there too, but it isnt nearly as traditional as other martial arts, like Muay Thai. I think the core of sports is: A team that competes in tournaments and it requires a ball and a tertiary goal (not directly hurting the person but instead having to score a goal or something or win a race or things like that.) I dont know, I am so tired right now I am not even making sense to myself. Ill get back to you...

Theres plenty of kickboxing tournaments in the states.
But Muay thai shows that something can be relatively mainstream and whatnot without having to corrupt the art and the tradition and culture surrounding it. Yes there is cardio kick boxing and whatnot, but that is at a comfortable degree of separation from muay thai.

Okay, I revisited the TKD club and it turns out i've got half the bullshido community on my back........

I turned up with my mate and to my suprise one of my instructors was there watching the class and using the gym equipment. It turns out that he was there to see me.

The instructor of the black dragon class I went to has been round my instructors house bitching about me and claims he's going to come after me and either mess me up using his chi or he's going to set his top student on me who has ******** his back up and is mentally unstable (and no i'm not joking).

Unfortunately this particular instructor of mine is very much the old school traditionalist and believes in chi projection and iron palm etc. I on the other hand believe it's all bullshit and nothing but mind control manipulation using methods such as Neuro Linguistic Programming and similar techniques. My instructor although a very dangerous individual and an excellent technical martial artist just doesn't have the common sense or open mind to see any different and arguing this with him would just end in violence (thankfully my other instructors are a little more sane). Anyway he told me not to go back to the club for my own safety so I just nodded and told him I could handle myself and if I was approched by them it would a case of one of us taking a trip in an ambulance, etc.

On an interesting note the whole group didn't turn up on wednesday so I guess they've been deterred.

For the purpose of this report i'm going to refer to the TKD members using the same abrevieations as in the last report. The only two people that were there from last time were Eddy and p***k there was another black belt there 'F' along with his young daughter. All three black belts were very nervous and on edge becuase my instructor was in the room (he used to instruct all of them well over a decade ago). Because of this fact Eddy was without a doubt under pressure to perform. The class started with a light warm up of jogging on the spot and then went straight into line work. Again the black belts were sloppy and everytime eddy tried to demonstrate simple techniques he nearly fell over so he asked me to demonstrate for him.

After the line work we took a 5 minute break and Eddy approached me asking if i'd take an instructors exam in two weeks time so I could teach for them. I declined and after the break 'F' took the second half of the class which consisted of a warm up, stretches and then plenty of kicking and punching combinations. During the whole second half of the lesson both Eddy and p***k were laying down on the mats in the corner talking. When we came to practice our reverse back kicks F's daughter was having trouble (she was only a white belt, yellow tip). 'F' got pissed off and tried to demonstrate the technique but ended up kicking her in the chest and dropping her (she looked about 9 years old). At this point I turned to look at my instructor and put my hand to my head in disbelief. He shook his head and carried on with his work out. 'F' then picked up the daughter in a panic and shouted at her "don't cry, you're a hard girl". The class finished soon after and I was approached by both Eddy and p***k, they both asked me if I could fight for them in a tournament in a weeks time and I again declined.

All in all it was an improvement on the last time I was there but the standard was still poor and I think the only reason they picked up the pace was because my instructor was present. Embarrassing really.
