Jay had felt it coming. The night before he could feel his throat getting sorer and he could feel the congestion in his nose. He took some vitamins and drank some orange juice, but the moment he woke up he knew he was sick. Well, He thought, At least I could stay home today. He went to the bathroom to relieve himself and as he was washing his hands he sneezed. Normally this wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but today Jay felt the floor around his feet vibrate as he sneezed. Jay, in a panic, grabbed a hold of his nose. He had been sick before, but his sneezes had never actually triggered his abilities. The vibration was subtle. Inside the bathroom it was fine because there was nothing that could really wobble there, but walking near a chair or a table was going to be a problem.
“Jay!” His mother called, “Breakfast!” Jay’s eyes widened with panic. What was he going to do. He couldn’t just skip off on breakfast and he couldn’t stay home sick because his mother might take notice. He stood there with his soaked hand holding his nose shut. The only noise in the bathroom was the water washing down the cream colored sink.
“Jay! Your breakfast is getting cold!” His mother’s call snapped him back into reality. Jay was still standing in his blue and cream bathroom with the water running. He had to get out of there and go somewhere safe. Clarence was the first to come to mind. Jay knew Clarence would help him. Jay turned off the water, washed up and got dressed as quickly as possible. He grabbed his backpack and was about go up when he let out another sneeze. He could feel the vibrations around his feet once more and sighed. He had to get out of there quick. He made his way upstairs and was greeted by his mother. She was a thin woman. Her hairs were starting to grey, but she didn’t feel the need to dye her hair to it’s original color. She said she should be proud of her age not ashamed of it. Jays brother and sister were in the kitchen. His sister, Lea, was fiddling with her hair obviously more concerned with how she looked than eating her breakfast. His little brother, Kevin, was trying to do the maze in the back of his cereal box while stuffing apple jacks into his mouth. He wasn’t fully successful in either thing. Jay’s mother smiled at him warmly as he walked into the kitchen, but her smiled quickly turned into a frown.

“Jay, honey?” She asked, “Are you sick?” She seemed to take notice of his illness right away. Jay panicked, “I’m fine!” He said quickly. “I-I have to go!” he said heading for the door. “Jay? What about breakfast?” She asked. Jay’s heart thumped loudly. He needed an excuse to skip breakfast, “Sorry, I...have to go in early for a test. So I have to go now.” “Then you should eat something.” Just as she said this Jay could feel another sneeze coming. He had to act fast. He screamed, “O-kay!” In the loudest and happiest voice he has ever used in his life. Then he grabbed a piece of toast off the plate and ran for the door screaming, “Love you! Bye!” “Strange....” Said his sister. And his mother just sighed.
Jay was lucky enough to make it twelve feet before the next sneeze came. He could feel the trembling at his fee. Of course it could have just been his sore legs on the verge of collapse after running as he did. His throat was sore and it hurt as he scarfed down the toast, but he would need some sort of energy to get to Clarence’s house. Jay could feel beads of sweat trickling down his forehead. It wasn’t really could outside now. It was one of those perfect spring days. He probably had a fever. Every now and then he sneezed, but he was able to avoid walking past things that would show any vibration.
After what seemed like an eternity he finally reached Clarence’s house. He rang the doorbell and waited for someone to answer. As soon as the door opened Jay looked up at the person with the look of someone on the verge of collapse and said, “I need some help...” His nose was running now. His eyes were puffy. And the color of his skin was paler than ususal. The walk had really done him in. His legs were trembling a bit. "My powers aren't-" He sneezed again and sent another vibration through the floor. It wasn't really strong, but it did cause Jay to fall in his weakened state.

"Oh, honey!" Deb immediately had Jay back up, supporting him, "It's ok. Come lie down. Oh, you poor baby! Cla--Oh, you're so hot! Why aren't you home?" The rumble under Deb's feet hadn't missed her attention by any stretch, but she had a one-track mind in a lot of ways. He was sick, he should be in bed, not here! "Come on, sweetheart. I don't know, maybe I should find my thermometer."
"What is the boy doing here?" Clarence asked from the door. He was still in his pajamas and hadn't shaved, making him look entirely geeky and lazy next to the rest of his appearance.
"He hasn't said!"
"Well, be quiet and let him speak. What's wrong, Jay?" Clarence was concerned too. He came up and took the crumbled toast out of Jay's hand, replacing it with a napkin Clarence had had in his for some reason. Deb rushed out to do whatever she thought was necessary for the teenager.

Jay softly said, “Thanks,” as Deb helped him through the doorway. “I– ” He tried to talk, but Deb seemed to drown out his talk with her fussing. Clarence was looking really goofy. His nerdy-lazy look was comical. Jay cracked a smile, but didn’t say anything about it because of a combination of weakness and fear. He needed Clarence’s help and it really wasn’t a time to poke fun at him.
He was thankful for the napkin he received because shortly after he sneezed into it. A nearby coffee table vibrated as the vibrations left his feet. Jay looked up at Clarence with his puffy eyes in a kind of pleading way. “My sneezes– ” He sneezed again and again the table vibrated. “I can’t control my powers.” He felt so pathetic and he was sure that he looked pathetic too. He breathed heavily a quickly. He was feeling really thirsty now. “Can I...have some water...” Jay asked. It seemed kind of random, but he was very thirsty.

Clarence considered Jay with something of bemusement and annoyance mixed together. He turned around, "Deb, a simple glass of orange juice would do."
He turned back to move the coffee table away from the chair. "Well, son, let's think about this. This doesn't seem to be so dangerous. Is there a medium that slows your waves down? Air prevents that," He half-smiled, amusement still clear, and annoyance disappearing into the business-like attitude he could often take, "But I don't think you want to have your feet in the air all day. Hmm, when you sneeze, do you feel a build up in powers, or just normally like you would at your nose? Perhaps you could hold it, like you would hold a sneeze, or maybe you can make it absorb up your legs and away from your skin instead of outwards."
He was spewing out ideas now, trying to help him. Now Deb swooped in.
"Or PERHAPS he could just go to sleep and drink lots of liquids and take this -- it's a vitamin mixture, sweetie -- and get better, then he'll be FINE." She elbowed Clarence and knelt down beside Jeff, handing him the drink with Airborne tablet dissolved in it, "You can rest here today, and I'll take care of you." She soothed.

Jay wasn’t sure what to think of Clarence’s look, but he was relieved to hear that he was getting orange juice.
Jay nodded. He was trying to listen to everything Clarence suggested, but was fading in and out due to a headache he had from his cold. “I feel normal.” Jay said in a stuffy voice when Clarence asked him if he felt any buildup. When Clarence suggested Jay hold it he said, “I’ll Try.” Then he let out a loud sneeze into the napkin that sent a vibration through the ground. He sniffled a bit and said, “excuse me.” It was at this point that Deb came in carrying some juice. He chugged it quickly and when it was halfway gone he stopped to take a breath.
“Thanks,” Jay said. Deb had offered to let him stay, but jay couldn’t shake the feeling that Clarence wasn’t too keen on letting him stay with them. He seemed anxious to fix the problem. “I-I don’t want to be a bother...” He said looking from Clarence to Deb. He wasn't going to stay if they didn't want him too.

"You're not a bother to us! Don't you ever think that!" Deb immediately scolded, "You will stay here and rest, and I don't want to hear any of that nonsense of your being a bother." She elbowed Clarence, glaring at him, "You could try to be a little more welcoming."
"He didn't come to be welcomed. He came with a problem, and he wants it fixed. I'm trying to help him." Annoyance did seep out a little to Deb, but wasn't so prominent when he turned back to Jay, "You're not a bother, son. Let's just see what we can do so you don't have to hide away here and worry your parents while you're sick." But he didn't suggest anything more. He didn't think Jay had had a chance to really digest his earlier suggestions, and Clarence almost always softened a bit when Deb was around to remind him to take the rough edges off his general mannerisms.

Jay was very relieved to her Deb offer him to stay. He wasn’t sure where he’d be able to go if the couple didn’t take him in. He gave them a puffy-eyed smile and said, “Thank you.” Then right after he let out another sneeze . The shockwave coming from his foot sent the coffee table rattling.
Even though Jay was sick he still detected a slight amount of annoyance from Clarence when he answered Deb. Even though Clarence did invite jay to stay he still had a valid point about Jay needing to learn how to control this. His parents would start to get suspicious if he kept disappearing anytime he was sick. Jay pinched the top of his noise and in a very nasally voice said, “I’ll try to control it so that it stops...” His eyes were watering now and his body was shaking a bit. He felt another sneeze coming and clenched his face in a vain attempt to stop the wave. It was no use though. Jay let out a raspy sigh. “Where can I rest?” He asked.

Clarence didn't get another word in, because Deb ordered Jay up out of bed and began to drag him off to where he could sleep...And ordered him to do just that. She wasn't going to let Clarence speak with him until he didn't look like the grim reaper himself! She gave him a bell to ring if he'd need it then disappeared out the door. Oh, the poor boy!
OOC: =P Skip to where he's not dead on his feet. You do that... a few hours of rest maybe? Your call.

Jay followed Deb and collapsed in the spare room. He was in pain and it took him a while to get back to sleep. He did fall asleep. He started to dream about a lot of different things. He dreamt about his father and sister standing over him telling him that he should do this and that. Then he got upset and the floor below them collapsed. They were dead. Jay had killed them. He was so scared. What had he done? How could he have done that? They were his family. There as a hand on his shoulder. Clarence was standing next to him and Clarence was smiling. Jay pushed himself away from Clarence and ended up falling into the hole himself. Someone caught him, but it wasn’t someone he recognized immediately. It looked like a future version of himself. He then remembered who it was that caught him. It was his real– “Father!” Jay called out as he tore away the sheets that covered him and sat up in bed sweating. He breathed heavily, but forced himself to calm down. He was in Clarence’s house. He was safe. After he calmed down he realized that he was feeling much better. His throat was still sore and he felt a bit warm, but it was much better compared to how he was coming in. He even looked much better. There was color in his cheeks and his eyes were not so puffy. He had been out for a good five hours. School was almost done by now and he was going to be in big trouble for ditching when he got home, but that was the least of his worries right now. He felt another sneeze coming and he went for a tissue from the box Deb had placed next to him. He sneezed and the waves still came. The dresser shook a bit, but it was not as strongly as before. He had to stop it somehow and he needed Clarence’s help to figure out how. He got out of bed, slipped on his shoes, grabbed some tissues and went to find Clarence. He opened his bedroom door and called out, “Clarence?” His legs were still feeling a little weak, but he had managed to walk just fine.

"In the living room!" Clarence called out, it was where he'd be sitting reading a newspaper, "Feeling better? You're in luck, Deb isn't here to strangle you. She went out to go buy out the pharmacy or some nonsense like that. Stop rumbling my house and start thinking about what you're doing."
It was a usual gruff response from him, though it wouldn't have taken Jay anything to have already figured out that Clarence would be up in a moment to attend to the teenager if he thought something needed attention then and there.

Jay let out a sigh that had both a little relief and irritation in it. Clarence seemed to be his usual self. He sounded like he was coming to where Jay was so Jay went back into the room and sat on the bed. He sighed. Clarence was no doubt going to lecture him on how to control his powers. He was going to have to concentrate. Jay figured he better gve it a try before Clarence got there.
Alright, jay thought, all I have to do is foc–
He let out a loud sneeze and the dresser next to him shook. Jay cursed under his breath.

OOC: Actually, if you had read my post closely, Clarence stayed where he was and called Jay to him. wink It's not exactly in C's personality to go hunting when what he wants can be brought/can bring itself to him. I know it's nitpicky, but details are important to pay attention to, especially when we get to fighting.
And. *bows* My apologies if I was not clear enough. I know I can be bad about not spelling out what I mean quite frequently. It's one of my greatest writing errors.
That being said, I'll assume that Jay misunderstood him and Clarence will go looking since he didn't come right out.
"You know," Clarence appeared in the doorway some moments after that, "Deb and I long ago realized not to keep anything that we valued near us. Eventually, we just stopped valuing things. Why not try to get rid of all that seismic energy of yours next sneeze and just let it go completely? We could move outside away from the foundations of the house if that would make you feel better and safer."
He pushed his glasses up on his face. As he stood there, ill-postured and speaking in his most humble-geek of voices, Jay would know that he really didn't care either way what was decided. It was just a suggestion. But, then, it was often hard to know when Clarence would leave the realms of geeky to commanding. He could change in a blink.

((Ahhh! Alright. I think it was the last part of the paragraph that confused me, but I'll keep what you said about Clarence in mind. ::Bows:: Sorry for the confusion. ))
Jay nodded. He really just wanted to learn how to stop the vibrations, but, after his repeated failed attempts, he was starting to realize that he may never know how to truly stop himself. He stood up and wobbled a little at first, but then he seemed to gain his balance. "Lets go outside..." Jay said. As Jay struggled to continue going outside he wondered about what Clarence had said about not caring about things. Clarence had never told Jay what his power was. He made it sound like it was something destructive.
Jay had never really thought to ask before, but now that he was thinking about it he might as well. "Clarence," He spoke calmly, "What can you do exactly?" He half glanced at the geeky looking man as he asked. It seemed starnge that he was thinking to ask this now. He had already been training under Clarence for a while.
Jay had made it down the stairs and was now heading out through the back. He slipped on his shoes and walked drunk-like onto the grass.
