I want a Ford mustang for my first car(the time is coming kinda close). No, not the old ones. The new one, with the classic style and whatnot.

Somethin like this, and I'm wondering. Is it a good car for starters? I know some of them are fast and all, but I would like your advice. If not a Mustang then what?

The Mustang GT is an excellent car if you're looking for well-rounded, moderate performance. It's also a good tuning platform if you plan on building it, with its 300 horsepower 4.6 Liter Triton V8 very friendly to performance upgrades. As far as handling is concerned, it actually handles pretty well, contrary to what many may think. With the right parts, one can actually turn a Mustang into a time attack machine, even though many other cars in its class completely out-handle it regardless. Of course, the majority of Mustang enthusiasts don't explore its handling potential in the least - it's more commonly known as a straight line car due to peoples' tendencies to convert them to drag-spec.

If you're not looking for something fast and furious, and are simply looking for a fun first car, you could benefit from the pony Mustang - the V6. Ford's V6 is rated at 210 horsepower, which is next to nothing considering the Mustang's weight factor. It will not surprise you when you jump on the gas, and if you were to take it to a drag strip you'd probably trap times between sixteen and seventeen seconds. Hell, I don't even think the base Mustang has limited slip. However, the V6 has excellent gas mileage and if you're looking for a car that is fun to drive and has some show to it, the base Mustang is the one for you.

Another option you might want to consider if you're not looking for high-end performance is the Mitsubishi Eclipse V6. It's not nearly as fast as a Mustang GT, but it will certainly outperform the Mustang V6. On top of that, it's much rarer than the Mustang, has a nicer interior, comes factory with a Rockford Fosgate audio system, and will undoubtedly turn more heads.

First of all, the MR is the top of the line model when it comes to the Evolution. The GSR would be base model. Also, STi's aren't cheap. The plain WRX on the other hand is.

As for getting the mustang, it also depends on how much you want to pay for insurance and the like. Two-door coupes tend to be a bit more on the expensive side, since most insurance companies know that they have the potential to go fast. Same deal with the Evo and STi, since they come out of the box with say...300ish HP, regardless of having 4 doors or not, those are expensive cars to insure, especially if you're young.

Now, unless you're going under your parent's policy, you might get some leeway there. But what the insurance companies look at, are A: You're young, and B: That looks like a fast car. They tend to be jerks when it comes to stuff like that...you tend to get better deals the older you are, if you're married, all kinds of little stuff.
