The tiny little black and teal thing didn't try to escape, instead she pawed his his hair and his ears in return for pulling her close and nibbling on her ears. It was complete bliss and the lovely kitsu could hardly remember being so happy with anybody else. Only her Ifrit made her feel like this and she cherished it and their games and his big fuzzy self. Now they would be together, together in a way they'd never been. A way like her parents were. And they could be happy. Despite all the world's shadows... Xanabel could be, would be, happy. As he got close enough to gnaw her ear, she gently licked the side of his face with a teasing affection.

Ifrit's life before becoming a kitsusagi had been long and full of strife; he's was a fighter, so he'd perservered, but even after coming here he'd never really felt relaxed or at peace. Being with Xanabel gave him that peace, and helped him to relax, and while they were together all his cares seemed to drift away. It was like magic. She was beautiful, wonderful, and somehow, she was his.
When she licked his cheek Ifrit continued to hold her but put his head back so he could look at her, taking a moment just to marvel at her before looking over at the stream. "How would you feel about swimming?" Normally he didn't like getting wet... he was still a fire being, after all. But at least as a kitsusagi water didn't actually harm him and if he kept his heat low enough he could actually go for a swim. It wasn't something he did frequently but every once in a while he did like to take a dip.

There was so much irony in all of this. A life of rebellion leading up to the meeting of her parents. Her father, who'd been a prideful little kitsu, had fallen in love with her mother, and had endured everything together. Swimming lessons, which, to quote her father was 'an absolute terror'. The time that Araphel, her mother, had gotten kitnapped and turned into a Bobtail. And all the stress her father had had to deal with after that.
And now, here she was. His daughter. About to go swimming with her own love now. However, she could swim. Quite well indeed. Though, she seemed to find it strange that Ifrit could. Wasn't he a fire... guardian? Would that hurt him? She supposed he wouldn't have offered if it could've damaged him, and so she nodded pleasantly, smiling softly just for him, "If you're okay with it... I don't mind at all..."

It was peculiar that a rough and tumble guy like Ifrit, like he had been for so very long, could have been so easily gentled. But neither had he really thought about actually settling down before he met Xanabel; it was amazing what could happen when you met someone wonderful.
He chuckled softly at her reply. "Would I ask if I minded, silly?" He kissed her softly on the nose and then rolled so she could get to her feet, and then a bit more so he could get to his. He carefully stuck a paw in the water to test it; a bit cool, he supposed because it was still chilled upstream. But he could help counter that so it wouldn't be too cold for Xana. He waded in and turned back to watch her while he waited for her to join him, carefully trying to help adjust the temperature of the slow moving stream a bit with his own.

In these last few hours, these last few moments and days... she'd begun to notice something about Ifrit, her Ifrit. He was beautiful. Or perhaps the proper term would be handsome? Whatever it was, he was as interesting to look at as any pyrefly, or any gem-studded cave. He was as bright as the sun, and more amazing than the whole sky. It was stunning to think he was really hers now ... that they... they could be a... well a they. Together. Silly. Yes.
She could hide the smile from her maw, and giggled as he pecked her on the nose. It tickled, and she skirted to her feet quickly as he made it easier for her, murmuring her thanks as she watched him slink into the water. Every move he made seemed to be graceful and she found that she liked watching him more than other things, even perhaps more than those intriguing fish he'd shown her so long ago. Then, with a widening grin, she padded over and hopped into the stream, causing a light splash and a ripple effect. It was perfect.

Ifrit took his cue that the water temperature was just about right by the fact that Xanabel gave no adverse reaction when she jumped in. He blinked slightly as the splash from her entry doused his nose, muzzle wrinkling to fight off a sneeze as some of the water actually dripped inside his nostril. He turned his head and huffed air out through his nose to try and clear it out instead and wound up sneezing in spite of himself. He gave an amused but exasperated snort and then grinned, gently splashing some water back at Xana in play.
When Ifrit thought about it... he'd always watched Xanabel more than the things around them. The scenery was nice, yes, but... she was so animated, and her wonder at the world was enchanting to see. She was beautiful... so beautiful, and her enthusiasm for life had inspired him to appreciate all the little things in a way he never had before. Like the way the beads of water on her fur glittered in the light, the effect against her black fur making a sparkle that reminded him of stars. So very, very beautiful... and mine... It was awe inspiring.

Xanabel's loud laughter wasn't easy to hide. Although she was slightly worried about splashing him and all the snorting fuss he was making about it, when he turned and grinned at her she couldn't have done anything else but erupt into sweet melodic laughter in that tiny voice of hers. Flicking her ears back quickly, she bobbed her head under the water to avoid the splash of water before she paddled forward to lightly tackle him in play as well. Everything was fun and games in this world when the people were kind. She could play her life away, and would if nothing stopped her.
The fluffy thing she was playing with was one of her endless sources of amusement, but she thought perhaps she'd like to bring her parents into this whole thing. After the last little incident... she hadn't spoken to them at all, and seemed sort of lost to the world. It was a travesty that she regret, and began to consider it, hoping she could talk to them soon.

Xanabel's tiny body had momentum enough to move Ifrit at least a little bit in the bouyancy of the water when she play tackled him. He feigned an over-exaggerated shock at her "attack" and then chuckled, bopping the top of her head ever so gently with chin, and then letting his chin rest there. He simply wanted to enjoy the moment, however brief it might be.
Finally he swished his legs again to fight the sluggish current that was trying feebly to pull him downstream and looked at Xana again. Her eyes... were full of love and joy, but they didn't seem quite as "here" as they had been. He tilted his head at her, questioning softly, "What are you thinking about?"

Faithfully responding to his antics with a soaring heart, she sighed lightly. There was something about him, that no matter what, made her feel safe. Never once had Xanabel ever felt unwanted or unsafe with him around, in fact... the one time she'd been endangered, he was the one she'd called out for. Not her father. Not anybody else. Him. Only him. He was all she needed.
Looking back, gaze distracted but kind, she shook her head lightly, pondering and then repeated the sighing gesture and laughed, "My parents... my family. I want to tell them... but I'm a little... nervous?" Her ears flicked back and she looked positively adorable. Childish, wet, and pathetic but the sweet sort of pathetic look that all innocent kids have. She truly didn't know what to do and it bothered her.

Ifrit was glad, so glad, that Xana trusted him so much, that he meant so much to her that he had been the one she called when she was in trouble. It was strange; he'd been a guardian and proctecting people for so long, and having someone to protect had brought a sense of purpose back to him that he hadn't realized he was missing. And now... now it was just bliss.
Ifrit tilted his head and pondered for a moment. He was fairly sure that Xana hadn't spoken to her parents much if at all since that day he'd found her in the HQ. They'd been spending most of their time together since that point, though he'd made a few trips here and there to check on everyone at the Place. He didn't honestly know what she'd done during those brief times he was away, but he'd always gotten the impression that she'd just waited for him to return. If that was the case and she hadn't really seen her family that much in all this time, that would make things even more akward for her.
Either way, though, his decision would have been the same. "You know all you have to do is ask, and I'll go with you."

In this embarrassment and nervousness there was also shame. Shame hidden dark and deep inside her somewhere. It was a tiny seed, blossoming into a rose and she knew it would stain her chest red with regret if she didn't do something. Once upon a time she had been close to nobody in this entire world than her father, and though he had kept her sheltered, she had loved him with that selfsame person. With all she had. He was her father. She told him everything. From breaking the smallest branch under her paw, to being picked on by her siblings. Anything.
Now... she had spent endless, nearly sleepless days and nights waiting for Ifrit. She'd refused to be without him. The very idea almost horrified her, as if she'd be attacked again and this time would never find the light to return. She couldn't possibly understand being separated from him. The idea was appalling, and for a moment that very thought shone in her eyes but she flicked it away. Now was not the time for such things.
Nuzzling him fiercely, with a sort of passion she truly meant from those dark depths in her soul, she nodded, "Please... please come with me... I can't do it alone..."

Ifrit nuzzled her back, with passion but also gently. Knocking her over wouldn't do. "Say when and where, my Xanabel, and I shall be certain to be there." His loving smile turned a bit sheepish after a moment as he was distracted with a thought of his own. "I have people I should tell, too..." Okay, he was a bit bothered by Xana not contacting her family for so long, but he hadn't been any better about getting in touch with Valefor or any of the others at the Place. Xana had become his sun and moon and stars... his whole world. It was hard to remember to think about anything else when he was with her.

His actions and words filled her with relief and her whole face seemed to begin to glow with grateful happiness. It was nice to know he would be where she needed him. Of course, she'd rather stay with him forever so she didn't have to arrange things... but she did need some time to think things out. And nothing ever seemed to work itself out in her head with him. He was just too much of a distraction that made the rest of the world insignificant. He was the only thing she needed.
"Tomorrow morning... there's a hill by the HQ. My parents are there a lot... it's where they met," she said softly, thoughtfully, sparkling. Her head tilted to the side kindly, "Family? Can I meet them?"

"Then I will see you there tomorrow morning." He kissed her forehead and then grinned thoughtfully at her questions. "Family? Well, not by blood, but yeah... I guess we sorta adopted one another a long time ago. Valefor's kinda like a big sister, I guess." He motioned toward the shore. Ifrit sort of felt like drying off and snuggling now. "But yes, you can meet her. She lives a lot farther from here, though, so it might take a little while for me to get in touch with her." It would be easier to track Valefor down if he left the Mountain for a day or two but... he just wasn't willing to do that anymore.

For a moment, she closed her eyes softly into the quick kiss to her forehead, and flicked her ears back, listening to him speak. There was something about his voice that could calm her, no matter what he was truly saying. It was just nice to listen to and she felt as if all the world could pause for these moments. Moving off in the direction he indicated, she lay down and curl up a little, wanting him to curl up around her. She looked up at him with sparkling teal eyes and smiled gratefully, "I'm looking forward to it then, dearest Ifrit..."
