does anyone know what the deffinition of marching band is?.... no... well now you do Def. of Marching Band Thinking the show will never work. And then, finally, it comes all together and you have achieved perfection , drumming your hands off and playing your brains out and tossing higher than the sky. A slice of time in a stadium when everyone cheers and your mom cries and pictures get taken and once, just once, you have the world in your hands. And the band marches out of the stadium and down thestreet, always together whether it's success or not, and you know by the feeling in your hear it doesn't get any better than this. And you know if your director asked you to turn around and "do it just one more time a little better" you would" or A sport in which the participants run around on the field wearing STINKIN' HOT UNIFORMS, playing music of some sort, while carrying instruments of varying sizes. All this AFTER 12 or so hour days of hotter than hades practices and pain. And yet, we keep coming back...I LOVE IT!!!
which do you think is true?

I think it's like this:
"Slave away your few precious days of summer running the same drill over and over from 7 AM to 6 PM for a week, then play at every home football game and get jeered and teased by those damn jocks. Then you get to go to some little podunk town that you've never heard of to play a small set for a grade. Then it's over, and it's the greatest thing that you've ever participated in."
Marching Band is one of the greatest joys in life for me biggrin

Comrade Nikolai I think it's like this: "Slave away your few precious days of summer running the same drill over and over from 7 AM to 6 PM for a week, then play at every home football game and get jeered and teased by those damn jocks. Then you get to go to some little podunk town that you've never heard of to play a small set for a grade. Then it's over, and it's the greatest thing that you've ever participated in." Marching Band is one of the greatest joys in life for me biggrin I think I agree with that definition the most. In particular, about those jocks, I wonder if they realize that marching band is a very difficult thing to do. Maybe they don't because they spend lots of time bashing their own heads in against other people's heads. Jock = modern pachycephalosaurus But believe it or not, I'd heard of... most of the towns we've played in before we played in them. Just that nothing important ever happens in them so you only hear their name like once a year without band. XP

Marching band, nay, music is my entire life, school and personal, I don't think I could survive without music or Marching, although it's hard enough trying to survive WHILE marching, I still love it though, and I wouldn't trade my band experiences for anything, I simply love it.

I have my own definition, at least for my school....
Marching Band - Herd of crazies playing instruments while wandering around the football field.

Marching Band: Musical geeks who get together to perform the greatest musical/visual show ever seen smile Consists of many different sections that each have their own drama, but leave it behind to work with eachother and others to make it grande. Members sell their soul to the directornator, and dedicate every ounce of themselves to the band. Free time does not exist, as time is spent learning, memorizing, practicing, rehearsing, fundraising, performing, etc. Hell, however, exists during the first official week of the season, learning drill and music. Blood, sweat, and tears start to show that first week, and continues to show for the next few months, but is worth it through the end. Halftime shows, pep assemblies, invitationals, tours, competitions, championships, parades... every performance and every moment in that season is worth every penny, sickness, and misery. Because at the end, we show our band pride and only wish for the next season to come.
biggrin
