zeldagirl7491 lildarkangel3001 same here. after reading twilight and the other books, I was completely astonished on Edwards manners and behavior. I really want to see some of that kind of stuff in a guy, but I'm afraid it will be too hard to find someone like that. I mean, at least as good-mannered as Edward. I really hope to find that guy though. lol. 4laugh (i also think having the kind of kiss thats in my sig below would be pretty nice also...except without the blood.....er...yea...) wow what show is that kiss from? and why is there blood??? heart ~It's from Blood Plus and I think the dude is a vampire~ heart

I have to say that the series hasn't raised my expectiations in men, but has raised my expectations on how I want romantic relationships to be. People constantly tell me that I am to picky, and this is why I don't have a boyfriend.
1) I realize that nothing in life is perfect (there are moments in life that are, but they are all too brief). I'm not looking for the perfect man or relationship-I'm looking for the man and relationship that are perfect for me. <----(my soul mate)
2) Most of the guys that I know that had the balls to ask a girl out are already taken. It's like that saying, "Men are like parking spaces; all the good ones are taken, and the rest are handicapped."
I also have to say that the reason women read romance novels anyway is because we want romance! heart The men between the pages of those books and novels love the heriones more than anything, and do and say things that demonstrate their love heart . And who writes these books that entice us to daydream about men actually being this way? That's right, women! Men could really take a hint since romance is one of the predominant writing genres in the world. Even fantasy fiction, manga, teen books, etc. all have at least some romance in them!
The fact is, Bella and Edward are soul mates (or un-soulmates as the case may be, since Edward doesn't think he has a soul), and in the end that is what every girl and woman wants. It's why we love this series so much-because of the love that Bella has for Edward and Jacob, and how they love her in return and show it. Is that really raising our expectations?
Although, I have to say that in "real life" most perfect looking guys don't go for average looking girls. It has been known to happen, but not very often.

I completely agree (esp. about the siggy part *blush*) I would love to have a guy with Edwards manners, and dare-I-say overprotectiveness? not to that extreme, but he's very chivalrous. a guy like that would just make me melt! *sigh* heart

I know I had high standards before, but Edward Cullen's perfection certainly didn't help my predicament any. sweatdrop I could never settle for someone like the boys at my school; that is certain. But then, it's like Edward is protecting me from harm, even though he doesn't really exist, just by keeping my expectations high enough that I won't date guys just to have a boyfriend, just because of a half-crush, or date someone that just isn't a gentleman. Because I couldn't possibly date the crude, mannerless guys that I already know. I guess I'll just keep looking, though my Edward-image might cause me to pass by a worthwhile opportunity for the non-existant fairytale. Maybe I'll be lucky. Who knows? Maybe we'll all be lucky. heart heart

It has not changed my expectations of men. Edward is a fictional vampire who will never be real. I'm sorry. But...I don't think any guy will be like Edward. I think Edward is kind of stuck-up-and-cliche-kind-of-stero-typical-guy. So...I don't think any guy I go out with or something will be like that.

NickelbackNerd, despite the truth you pointed out in saying no guy can really be like Edward, I must say I would never ever consider classifying him as "stuck-up." That doesn't describe his personality at all.

Yes, this book has absolutely brought up my expectations in a guy. I mean, I know Edward isn't real [[*tear*]] but it's made me want someone like him nonetheless. Every girl wants a guy that loves her so much he would sacrifice everything for her and he respects her. A guy that will protect the one he loves with his life. Everyone wants to have a relationship like theirs. Can you blame me for being envious of Bella? I know he's insanely gorgeous, but there are other things I want in a guy aside from looks. I know that there will most likely never be a guy out there like him, so I'm not keeping my hopes up. I just want the guy I'm with to be worth it all.
