i think that a person can be goth or emo or something and still be a christian. its just two completely different things. anyone can be a christian regardless of gender, race, nationality. being "emo" or "goth" is just another category that people are thrown into. it doesnt make anyone any less of a christian.

Well, as long as she doesn't have 'evil'/suicidal/homocidal....thoughts, then it's okay.
I dress like that and I'm a Christian.
As long as you love God and live a Christian life then I don't think it matters how you dress.

oh my days.
people that listen to heavy metal and rock are not anti christian, in fact there are several heavy metal groups that praise god in their songs. I'm into metal, but I also love God. God gave us free-will to do what we like, so I listen to what I like, but I do not blaspheme or insult the Lord.

One of the most important thing that i've learnt in my Christian Faith Journey is that "We Must Look Christian"...but im sure that at times we will become lost and confused like you're friend but that doesn't mean that you 'anti-Christian" it probably just a phase but if not then let her be who she wants to be...if her faith is as strong as you say it is then how you look won't affect you at all.

How do you "look Christian"? By wearing a nice suit and tie? A nice pretty dress with thick stockings?
Puh-lease. Give me a break. Look at a majority of psycho's and serial killers. They certainly don't look anything other than what any other "Christian" or upscale person would wear, most of the time.
We cannot judge based on appearances, and we should not judge at all. Judging is for The Lord. We should merely guide ourselves and other's to do what is in The Bible.

Yuka Swatari So have this friend.
She has become Scene/Emo/Punk/Goth, while she used to be miss girly girl modest person.
BUT here is the thing. This girl is a STRONG Christian, she would give up anything and everything for God.
She doesn't curse, ect, and follows what to do and not to do from the Bible. On the other hand, she also LOVES to gossip about me behind my back, and compete with all her friends to make her seem better than everyone else, or to make herself seem problematic, to get sympathy from others.
This girl was my best friend.
To get to the point, if she dresses in black and skulls and such with heavy eye makeup and such, is this considered anti-Christian. Or wrong in the Faith? She is even getting her hair dyed black, and only wears skinny jeans and converse. Another thing is that her personality is COMPLETELY different from what she portrays in her looks. I just don't understand....
So can someone clarify this to me?
What is going on with her? What are your opinions on these things?
God knows a person's soul and true heart. Just because she wears skulls and black makeup doesn't mean she is anti-christian, because, as I said before, the Lord knows everything. On the other hand, in my opinion, goths, emo's, etc. remind me of Satanists rather than Christians. I don't think wearing skulls and black makeup is the... right way to go about things as a Christian, it just doesn't portray the right morale for the Faith. So... That is my opinion on your freind wearing all black and what not, that is anti-christian in my opinion. Jesus wasn't depressed and sullen looking, he was exciting and new and relevant and... a lot of other things XD But we was not depressed and sullen~ Now, have you tried telling your freind that it hurts you when she talks behind your back? And woops !I didn't answer your first question! She may be going gothic due to peer pressure, or maybe she wants to just get attention. Like you said, it sounds like your freind wants and likes to be the center of attention, and this may just be a way for her to do it easily. By being so severly different from people, maybe. I certainly dont think the way we dress (as long as were not dressed in a way thats provoking sexual intentions like someone mentioned earlier) affects our relationship with God. Its just like mazuac said, God knows our hearts and soul.
I once went to this uber-strict church where all the girls whore plain clothes and long skirts....I come back a few years later and it turns out all those girls were sleeping around and ended up pregnant! So, it doesnt matter how a person looks, what matters is who they are and how they act once they're outside of church.
Now, her gossiping, acting superior, hurting your feelings, ect., that seems wrong to me. Friends dont gossip about each other sad . It kinda sounds to me like she being kinda fake. If you feel she might be straying from God, or doing things that against what God wants (such as gossiping), you might want to talk to her about that.

This happened to me. The whole thing may be that she has felt her entire life that she had to be girly and follow all the strict rules perfectly so she wouldn't be thought ill of. See would only dress that way if that's how she feels inside, and you should be encouraging it. It's who she is now, and if you are a true friend, you'd accept it.
But it's not a sin at all, it's not a phase, and you shouldn't be just sitting waiting for her to get over it because it may not happen.
There are somethings that you should watch for, however. I know that because you dress that way doesn't mean that you are depressed, cutting, or doing drugs, but probably 7 out of 10 times it is happening. You might just want to be there for her and help her stay clear of those things.

I dont know this girl. But the only thing to do is to pray for her and he will be blessed by the fruit of the holy spirit.
On the other hand, you cant say that she is Scene/Emo/Punk/Goth. Because this is all music genre. Many people misrepresented by this culture because of one-sided hair, eyeliner and Hardcore gesture. Emo is short for Emotional Hardcore, Goth for Gothic Rock and Punk is for Punk Rock.
This Girl should have a big relationship to music. If not, therefore she is a Poser (Sorry for the word).
