I'm tryin to be summoner too.. im lvling my WHM right now since I heard it was better... but I think I'll stick to making my summoner a red mage.
But thats just me.

the game is about fun not what the strat guide tells u
so.......sub whatever u want
my ranger subs RDM and i dont care what ppl say i still get partys

Update: on Kujata server, the current preferred sub for BLM is now apparently SMN (lots of mana to burn I guess) and the current preferred high level sub for SMN appears to be BLM now

Zero423 dude......sub what ever u want no one can tell u how to play the dam game the game is about fun not what the strat guide tells u so.......sub whatever u want my ranger subs RDM and i dont care what ppl say i still get partys that is very true i sub rdm for just about all my jobs including nin smn whm blm drk whatever is not needed to be a tank except nin i just didnt feel like lvling my war or buying r doing quests for utsusemi or ninjutsu scrolls of any form

Dakinn Anyone who said BLM is an acceptable sub for SMN is either dumb, or delusional. WHM is the only viable sub for SMN. All other subs are a waste of time and laughable. Saying that is so pointless; as you get higher levels, your less needed as a healer, and would need a lot of mp.

btw, Leviathan gains the ability Spring Water(or something) at level 40(41, I forgot), which heals everyone in range about 200ish hp. Not only it gains hate for Leviathan, but waiting a minute is kind of short, especially in battles

Well personally im aiming for Smn/Blm. 1) Why sub whm when im the worst healer anyone has ever seen. 2) I have always enjoyed Blm more than most other mage jobs. 3) It really doesnt matter what you sub just learn to use it well and have fun with it. Besides im an Elvaan and I dont care what others think. If I want to play as a mage I go out and buy me some good freakin gear and learn how to use magic properly. It doesnt matter what you choose just have fun!
