Back to Guilds

This guild is intended for those who have a love of the fantasy genre, perhaps a growing interest in it, and for those who write in it.

Gee, I thought that was possible if there was a sister guild thing. I mean, I'm not really informed on how Gaia's forums and guilds keep changing so I thought it was a new feature.

Ok, so how do we flag a thread? If you don't mind me asking...

I hear that! I have no ideas on that either but I'll come back and post as soon as I do. 3nodding

Well, going with the plant analogy, perhaps we could just archive all the old subforums (the 'dead wood') in favour of putting all the 'growing' threads in one place (say, anything that's had a post this month...)
There's only about a dozen active users & not that many more active threads, so having them split across 8 different subforums isn't necessary.
I know I tend to only check a couple of the subforums as several of the others just don't seem likely to hold much of interest to me... I could be wrong, but it takes a long time to go looking for a new post, especially with so many 'sticky' threads clouding things too.
I reckon that if we have it all in one place, it's easier to see at a glance what's going on & be tempted to post a comment.

Flagging up something is basically just drawing attention to it.

Anyway, Eoforgar, there isn't a way of archiving subforums unfortunately. Besides, I created all the separate subforums for ease of navigation so people aren't continually searching for particular topics that differ from others.

I could reintroduce the "Storeroom" which was a subforum specifically for threads that could still be useful but stored away or those that are disused significantly. However, before putting a thread in there, one should think on it to see if there's a way of reviving first.

I will work on deleting the rp subforum items to clear the subforum out.

The storeroom (warehouse) is back, and I've made the new subforum into an area to discuss real or fictional places, including inspiration gained from real or mythological places as well. That subforum is currently named The Pavilion & Forest Gate (it has an outdoor sounding name I think).

I'd say Eoforgar has a point and it might be the reason why some members won't post. They may see all the subforums and if they barely have time, they may not post cuz it might be a hassle to try and browse through all of them.
I'm with Mel that it's better to have the threads at the proper sub-forum but if it's gonna up activity, it might not be a bad idea to do as Eoforgar suggests. Having all the most active threads in one place, I mean.

Hey Mel! I know what flagging up means. What I don't know is how you'd like us to flag up things. I mean, it could be done by making up a thread where we can post the name of the thread(s) that we think don't have much point in staying or, maybe juts make a list on this thread or, maybe just changing the status of said threads to "announcements"? Other than that, I suppose we could just simply move them to the "Warehouse". What did you have in mind?

BTW, that's a neat name for that forum Mel. At least I like it...

I was going to bring back the Directory instead of putting everything in one place. So there's a thread that gives more knowledge about it. If people can't be bothered to just browse, then that's that I'm afraid. You don't have every type of product in one shop do you? If you want DIY equipment you go to a DIY store, if you want anime and music, you go to an entertainment store like HMV, or if you want to buy a computer or printer, you go to an eletronic products specialist store. There are department stores that have fashion and homeware in it, but they're all in respective areas still. You won't find clothes hanging in the homeware department, and you won't find pots and pans amongst the latest ladies fashion.

The same idea goes for a guild like this one.
I've already compromised Eoforgar's idea by reintroducing an area where disused theads can go, and the other side if it can exist by means of a Director, not unlike the board that appears in Balamb Garden in FFVIII the first time you look at it. It tells you where each region of the school is and what it's about.

I very much doubt that's why people don't post though. People are just far too lazy to even look and post, even if the topic is something they apparently love.

is it just that there is plainly nothing more to talk about and then they get bored and dont post?

Good point Mel! That's pretty much what I had in mind but I can't help but feel that a reason why some members aren't posting is, well... that! I don't know...

BTW, I'm still unsure how I'm supposed to flag threads up. sweatdrop

I have no idea why the guild is not active. There could be a number of reasons and I don't know if giving up on the guild is something I want to do right now. rolleyes

Suma-Kaur
is it just that there is plainly nothing more to talk about and then they get bored and dont post?

As I said before, it's always been like this. A few people posted a lot then stopped, another lot came and did the same, and so on.....but it always fluctuated with a few posts here and there and then none for months on end.

There is NO WAY there is nothing more to talk about. New people coming in must have something to say on dozens of the topics, but I have always said "just jump in" if a conversation is already going. There are always new things to add into topics.

Fantasy is a genre that is limitless, therefore there's never a shortage of things to discuss. I was about to say something that many people would take offence at, so I won't say it.

I did it with other guilds in the past. I stopped posting in them because I was having so much crap trying to keep this one alive. Gaia has several million members now, so a huge percentage are not going to be in the same position whereas I know many still are. When I was active in other guilds, I'd look for a conversation that looked intriguing, and just posted about it. I didn't care what had gone before. I just posted. People complained some time ago to me, saying "I'm sorry I'm not active, I just don't see any topics I can post in." Huh? There were about as many threads then as there are now. Nowhere they can post? I'm sorry but.....WTF!? That's utter bull crap. I'd even said "if there is a topic you want to talk about that isn't there, create a thread for it."

GAH! The word I am thinking of begins with a big capital R if you're wondering.

I totally get that. I felt almost the exact same way back when I was on Bolt (it was similar to Gaia but not as cool).

I have no idea why people are not active to be honest...

Anyone looked in the Historical Archives recently? Just thought I'd draw some attention, having given it a week for random passing interest...

I'll take a look! I usually don't cuz there's not much to say for me there anyway. I don't know about anyone else but it was kinda sad to look in and only see my posts being the last ones on most threads.
