I just learned this phrase today. (Christmas + Hanukkah)
My town has just began using the term Winter Break instead of Christmas break when it's used on official school documents.

Personally, I think so many American holidays are commercial that it shouldn't be too much of a stretch for everyone to keep calling Christmas Break without taking it too religiously. I mean, I'm not really religious, but I think of Christmas as a holiday in which consumer culture runs rampant. It's all about sales, baby. stressed

What about Kwanzaa or Yule? No one's particularly worried about offending these holidays in debates over this topic. I say we take the holiday for what it is: a chance to affirm your love for those close to you in December.

I guess I'm a sucker. I love Xmas. For religious reasons and for the holiday stuff that goes on. For the first time in my life, I'm able to use my own money to buy gifts for people. And even better, I don't have to worry about how much it'll cost. So I can buy decent gifts <3 I think I overdid it with Ryan though. >> I got us a Wii. But it's not just buying things.

I'm sitting in my living room looking at my little Xmas tree which currently only has lights on it. I think it's just so pretty. My mother gave me some of her old antique ornaments which I'm going to hang. This excites me. I remember thinking these ornaments were beautiful when I was a child. They're special to me.

I think part of the reason I'm so excited is this will be my first Xmas with Ryan where he lives here. It's a chance for me to make a special holiday for him and me.

As for what to call it, I call it Christmas. I don't have a problem with that as I'm Christian xD But I wonder if I wasn't, would I have a problem calling it Christmas.

What I heard and I do not like is possibly changing what Santa says. Instead of Ho ho ho, they want to change it to something else. -_-

They changed s celebration here were I live from "Christmas on the Prado" to December Nights" to avoid offending anyone. Christmas hasn't really felt like a religious holiday for quite awhile, and it is MAJOR sales for lots of businesses. So the meaningful thing about it is to make sure that the people you love do know how you feel, and that they know exactly what you want for prezzies, or at least which store to get the gift card for. xd Even Hanukah is getting commercialized. I've seen decorations, chocolate dradels, and Hanukah string lights just like Christmas lights. I've also seen Hanukah gift wrap, so none of these holidays have a religious feel.

My school uses 'Winter Break', but some students in the attempt to be politically correct when wishing a good break to everyone say 'Happy Chrismahanukwanzaadan.' (Not sure if I spelled it right!) For Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Ramadan.

In my school, we just use some variation of Chrismahannukwanzaadan, as Fe-Hua said. For us, it's like some type of joke or some attempt at "not offending anyone."

Really, I think America's taking the politically correct thing too far. Just a bit. I mean, in trying not to offend all the other religions, they're kinda harming Christianity by not honoring the actual name of the holiday.

But, whatever. I don't think our generation [the technology-addicted generation xp ] would care much about it. We're more open-minded and such. We'd probably worry more about having something at all rather than what to call that something. 3nodding
