Maybe your hair is just supposed to be white/grey. It doesn't mean that your old or anything. My dad had white/grey hair when he was a kid because that was his hair color. He still has white hair now. Your hair will change colors throughout your life and will be many different colors.

also, Are you apsilutely sure that it was your hair?? Not a hair that was just on your hair??

well, my hair has always been really dark, so the change is really noticeable. it seems unlikely that given my hair has always been dark that i was always meant to have white hair. but given my family history, it of course does seem possible that this is the point when i'm supposed to start getting white hair.

but yeah, it was definitely my hair. it was attached by the root, and definitely attached to my scalp.

My class mate has gray hair
Since his freshmen year
Knew another guy who had grey hair
Like a couple years back
While he was still in school

Not uncommon...
But genetics... ugh...

;D Be proud of it

Gray head-ed-ness is a crown of beauty

Standing on the rooftops,

EARLY GRAYING!
It's okay, my sister got her first gray hair when she was 17.
Well, don't worry, it's genetics and you can't change that.

You got to live with what you got.

@breathless zephyr and mushroom penguin - yeah, that's exactly what i'm doing. in fact, because of my family's genetics, i've been preparing for this for quite some time. however, even though every woman in my family grays incredibly young, every male member in my family grays incredibly old. for instance, my father is in his mid-50s going on 60s and he barely has any gray hair, and my uncle is older than my father and the hair that he has left has less gray hair than him. so, there was a slim (emphasis on slim) chance i inherited genes from that side of the family and would have grayed at a very old age. so, essentially my two genetic options were either graying incredibly young like the rest of the women in my family, or graying really old like the male members of my family. however, with this early appearance of gray hair, it seems obvious which genes i inherited. especially since the only other genetic option i had was to gray at an incredibly old age, it seems that with gray hair coming in early, i'm genetically predetermined to gray at a very young age.

I know a kid who has had a strand of gray hair ever since he was born, right in the center of his head. My science teacher is always talking about it because it is some kind of genetic disorder or something. But, the thing is the strand never grows, it just stays there like it has been for his entire life. It's pretty cool! =](I mean he doesn't care, but he's a guy, so..... xD )

yeah, about this statement referring to this person as able to handle signs of age better because he's a guy:

i just have to say it's a shame that men seem to have an easier time of showing gray hair than women. for women, there seems to be a strong pressure to always appear more youthful than their actual age. for some reason when a man has gray hair it's referred to as a sign of distinguish and respect, however when a woman has gray hair it's a sign of being ineligible for dating and going past a youthful prime. also, the reason for older single women being viewed as ineligible for dating has to do with the stereotype of a woman's biological clock ticking, leading guys to believe in a false notion that if they're dating an older woman, they will have to commit to a relationship because of possible urgent feelings an older woman might have to settling down. it also seems that ageism really effects women to the point where women feel ashamed to reveal their true age. it's a shame this mentality exists and i realize this is another unfortunate aspect of aging that i will have to deal with. i do wish it was easier for women to age respectfully in this society.

Yes, that is so true. =[ But you know, there are some women who have had a full head of gray hair, and have worn it with dignity. It's not as common, but I respect that they do have no problem with showing off their gray hair like it was a sign of wisdom or something.

i'm sorry, but as i stated before, i'm against this as a solution to my situation mainly because it goes against my convictions against natural beauty especially in regards to aging. gray hair is a feature of aging that i always respected and a complete dying of my hair is a very drastic tactic especially since i'm against hiding this feature in general. i contemplated highlighting my hair as a subtle way of maintaining a youthful appearance mainly to appeal to younger men my age, but even a subtle change does not really appeal to me either. but again, i would rather choose a subtle method to handle my hair style than something as drastic as completely dying my hair. so i doubt i'm going to consider this as a solution to my hair situation. but thanks for the advice.
