That'll give you a pretty good idea of which games can be played on which type of PS3 and what problems may or may not pop up and whether or not they can be fixed with a firmware update or not. :D
Looking up FF XII, I don't see any problems like freezing in certain areas. Since you said it never happened again, it might've just been one of those spontaneous secular problems.
I never actually played FF XII myself. I just watched my father get through it. I liked the story, and Fran was cute. <3

Yah FF12 was a cool game. The interresting part was how they took some of the new gameplay features form FF11. For example you can fight in realtime somewhat. It plays something like the Knight of the Old Republic. If you havn't played that game, you should check it out. If you have upgraded ypur PC recently, you should be able to play it since it come out during the last generation. I bought it for the Xbox.
