Even without sight, Toph is a kick butt bender mrgreen . However, I got to wondering: if she suddenly was able to see again would her earthbending skills be even better with the addition of a new sense or would they get worse do to her changes in perception and possible confusion between what her eyes saw and her feet felt?

To be honest, i think they might get worse because since she'll be able to see for the first time, she'll lack in the use of sense of "SUPER-hearing" and sensitivity.

But don't get me wrong, she'll still use those senses, but after time she might use it less and less and when the war is over (if it ever ends) she'll hardly use it at all, unless she wants to go back to fighting some Earth Benders back in the Arena

I think part of why she kicks so much bootay is because she was taugh by BadgerMoles... the original benders. It'd be like being taught how to dance by the first ballet dancer or something. She might loose some of her edge, but when you're so far ahead of the curb as Toph you've got to lose a lot of edge before others will notice. She's already figured out metal bending, that's something she'll keep. And she's so used to relying on her feet that she probably still would to some extent. Heck, she'd probably practice blind (like how they were training Aang) just to make sure she stays sharp. Only after getting her sight she'd be able to attack people/things that weren't on the ground. She'd be as unstoppable as a fully realized avatar.

I agree with Arashi. Toph would probably fight with her eyes closed and only open them if her enemy was in the air. Plus, with her feet and bending skills, she could probably notice more around her than her eyes would.

There's a reason I hate Superman... he's just too damn powerful. He's even immune to kryptonite! scream

What I'm trying to say Toph is better off blind. Because she's bling she grew stronger (metalbending, good senses, lie detector), wiser (judges solely by character, learned to look on the bright side of things with a sarcastic attitude) and still has weaknesses (she's screwed if she's not on firm air and can't control where the earth lands) Plus all the blind jokes gonk

If she were to see, and not lose any of her super abilities, it would suck. Toph reminds me of some of the blind people that are/have been in my life(plus a character of mine I wrote about when I was way younger) . I don't want her to lose that as a character. But if she were to see she better not be like the guy from "Marienela" (a novel I read as a kid) Lord I wanted to strangle that guy as soon as he stopped being blind and became jerkish.

She would NOT be less powerful, Aang can see, and yet he was able to use so-called "super-hearing" to dodge an attack from combustion man. I really dont think it matters.

But like Shaolina said before me, she'd lose a lot of her personality and charm as a character.

Exactly. Back when everyone thought she was a brat I still adored my little munchkin because she was a blind kick-a** girl. Reminds me of a girl I guided when I was in 11 grade. (Best job EVER by the way)

She was petite, frail-looking, and looked like a doll. Plus she looked 12 when she was 19 and was blind to top it all off. She was Toph's blonde non-bender version. She acted quite bratty and cursed. I loved being with her and sshe loved being with me because I didn't pester her. I knew she could do stuff on her own and I just hanged around talking nonsense to her.

Even though she didn't see she was quite happy with herself and her achievements and was very strong-willed. What like hits you with makes you who you are. When I saw Toph in the Blind Bandit it brought me great memories of her. Toph is different and an unexpected surprise. Why make her lose that? It would be for me like losing a friend again.

Toph said it herself in Tales of BSS, one of the good things about being blind is not caring about appearances. She's happy with who she is. She doesn't need eyes.

She probably would loose a good deal of her personality we so love. She could easily go back to her parents and not be so coddled, learn to read/write, actually see her ugly picture, stop teasing Sokka about how "good" his drawing skills are, really tell Katara how pretty or ugly she is... I bet for a while she'd go overboard on seeing stuff. But it's possible that after she's gotten used to sight that she'd chill back to something close to her current personality.

But Shaolina did have a good point about Superman. I never liked him either, too godmodey. Toph would be godmodey and no matter how much she was still Toph I'd like her less for being all godmodey.

I know. It would be "Look at me! I can metalbend, aim like a sniper, fight on sand, fight on ice and sense through my feet, see like a hawk. I AM AWESOMENESS" No!! gonk The reason I loved Toph when she was screaming "I'm the greatest earthbender of the world" was that:

a) She eventually fell flat on her face reminding us that she still has weaknesses

b) She was so adorable.

c) She really worked hard and wised up to get there. If she's the best is because she was determined to be the best.

She would be like the Juggernaut! In a cute adorable adorable sense of way ^^
