Sakyh Well I believe myself to be a Sony fangirl and a FPS fangirl. Yet I have a sensible head on my shoulders. A fanboy/girl is just a massive fan of a particular game/genre/company/consol. A good majority of fanboys/girls are obnoxious, close-minded, and idiots in general. A dipjit fanboy can turn other gamers away from games. I know my boyfirend loathes Xelda because of overzelous Zelda fanboys. And Halo fanboys have forever tainted that game for me. It's a shame, I would have loved it I know.I know exactly what you mean. xD Fanboys effectively turned me off of consoles too. xD I just don't like when fanboys can get really offensive against other consoles or extremely defensive of their own. I know I can get really defensive at times. There's nothing wrong with that I just make sure I don't attack statements/threads that aren't even attacking and most if not all n00bs I let go with statements against Nintendo because they aren't even worth my time quoting them. It's the literate ones I tend to get edgy about. I also don't jump on every person that says anything bad about Wii/Nintendo. I let a lot of things go without even giving them a second thought. If someone said "Wii has too many casual games" I'm not going to jump on them and say they are attacking casual games. That would be petty of me to do. Saying Wii has too many casual games isn't saying casual games are bad. I've learned to not worry about such things. So yeah, overprotective fanboys and over-offensive fanboys aren't too good. I'm not as defensive as I used to be. Don't get me wrong, if someone said something extremely bad or degrading to Nintendo I'd probably step in. I still do. (Unless they are a n00b because there's no getting through or satisfaction or point with arguing with a n00b. Most don't even return so to do that would look like I'm trying to boost my ego.)

is it good or bad? well, it all depends on how the fanboys/girls treat the games that they enjoy. for example, if you see a Halo fanboy say "I really love Halo, but ______ is better" than that is obviously a "good" fanboy. on the other hand, if you see a Halo fanboy say "HALO IS THE BEST GAME EVER! IT'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN _______ AND ALL THE s**t YOU PEOPLE PLAY!" than that is a "bad" fanboy. bad fanboys are also very stubborn. they will not accept any suggestions or faults that you point out towards their games. for example, today in Towns, I saw this kid who was a Nintendo fanyboy say that "Super Mario RPG: Land of the Seven Stars was the first 3-D game ever", but then I corrected him, and said that Hovertank 3-D was the first 3-D game, and there were many other 3-D games such as Doom that came before Land of the Seven Stars. he said they didn't come before, and that all games not made by Nintendo suck. THAT is also a bad fanboy.....

that just goes to show that some games really are HEAVILY over-rated, and some fanbases just don't back down, even when they're proven wrong. so answering the question if fanboy/girl is a good thing or bad thing? well, for the most part, it is, because the term is often associated with over-rating, and blind, biased opinions. and as many people here have touched on before, they do ruin the franchises for some people. there isn't a day that I can't play Halo without feeling that some random guy out there is unintentionally trashing the reputation of such a great franchise because he just won't shut up about how he thinks it is superior to pretty much every game ever made. same goes for Final Fantasy, Mario, and all other games that are really over-rated.
