Well there could be ways to "kill" a soul but it's not something anyone should learn how to do..
Since a soul is a form of eternal energy that have something special programmed into it, you can just deprogramme that something to "kill" the soul..

Throught I don't know anything about having a true name for a soul and even less about been able to control someone by using that name..

A less grammatically awkward title for this thread would be "Do our souls die?" Or "Does the soul die?"

But anyway.

I am gonna say you got that image of an online quiz of some sort, and thus I wouldn't trust anything it has to say about anything, ever.

First, define your belief in what a soul is, and we'll discuss. If anyone else has a soul definition they want to throw in, do it and we'll see.

domokun wihle were talking about souls ill ask a uick question: is it true that we just go through life after life until we learned all we needed to learn/ were supposed to learn?

pertaining to the acctual question of the thread, no i dont belive there is a name that can do any harm to you. i read something like that weakness in a book once but it only works if your one of those beings created by acumulative energy and thought forms...like the things formed when 'summoning fake spirits'..... >.> unless you are one you shouldnt wory about the whole name thing.

While it doesn't pertain to the soul very much, my interpretation of 'names have power' is simply that, your name is how most people identify you. As such, you'd probably have a good deal of luck with using someone's name in sympathetic magick (i.e., I stick pins in a doll named Jim Johnson and Jim Johnson gets hurt) than you would otherwise. In essence, knowing that person's name gives you a degree of power over them.

That's kind of what I was thinking...

I base it off the fact that whenever I hear even something remotely related in sound to my name... I look to find the source of it.

I would thus reason that if someone knew me by a name I recognize... well, I don't know about control but they could most certainly manipulate me I suppose... sweatdrop

Regarding the picture though... I don't think it means the soul is physically dead (terms? lol), but more like a descriptive...
"Dead to the world" if you will.

Some people believe that your soul CAN die; however, they say that your soul is not destroyed, but simply bails out. Basically, a suicide without a physical death. So it usually happens during a suicide attempt where the person came close to death but did not actually die. In these cases, it is said that a "Walk-in" spirit will replace you and live the rest of your life for you, while you go wherever you would go after you die.

I don't believe that the soul can be destroyed. Energy can't be destroyed--only changed into something else. Even if it IS just the grass over your grave. (Who doesn't like grass?)

As Knola said, energy cannot be destroyed, only changed. However the soul isn't just energy.

We can look at this in the following example:

First let us say that icing cannot be destroyed, now lets bake a cake and put icing on it. The icing represents the energy and the cake represents the "self".
Now you can't very well have a nice cake without icing being on it, so lets now destroy this said cake and split the self from the energy, the cake can be destroyed, but the icing cannot.

Basically if you could follow that at all...Cake sucks, pie rules, souls can be destroyed, energy cannot, and the "self" of the soul can fade and dissipate.

Oh boy, semantics. If you don't want to call it the soul, you can call it the mind. And the mind IS made up of energy. Thoughts are made up of energy. So all that collective stuff would be what I would call the soul.

I would think as long as you have will your soul is not dead.
I would suppose that your body could be alive while your soul is "dead" or inactive. The idea of keeping a body alive through life support while there is no soul/will in it has disturbed many a person.

Hm, it would make sence to me then that if a 'soul' were to be 'destroyed' then the person's conciousness would cease to be, and they would not go to [INSERT FAVORITE UNDERWORLD HERE] nor be reincarnasted as the grass above their grave, but instead reform with the "oversoul".

There, thats what I was trying to say all perfectly summed up XD. The "self" would "fade" and thus basically what Nick said.
