Wow... I guess there isn't many people who are interested in martial arts that don't involve Asians, Qi, and mysterious scrolls.

I'd say that while European martial arts might not have involved Qi, it most certainly involved Asians and mysterious scrolls. After all, they were used to slaughter asians on occasion and most of what we truly know about the arts of old come from "mysterious" scrolls, which have proven the rumors of European inferiority in the martial arts far from the truth.
I tend to blame our lack of a "dojo-tradition" on the fact that we were near constantly at war, with each other or with someone else, but that's me.

I'm suprised there are no schools for the european hand to hand arts, although I can understand the weapon arts falling out. As firearms became the weapon of choice for the battlefield, the only schools left tought fencing for self defence, which probably would have faded away into nothing be it not for the Olympics. Nowadays you can't even learn self defence swordsmanship, just slimmed down sport fencing.
