The egg shivered slightly, stopping it's rocking, as the temperature was slowly dropping. The sun had well gone down, and with the middle of the night beginning to hit, the air was beginning to grow a slight bit colder than it had been.
In fact, it was becoming so cold... That the egg that Numair wrapped himself around... Slightly began.. To crack. Just one, slightly long crack, at the very top of the egg's shell, extended about a quarter of the way down, and it didn't look like it was about to stop.

Numair heard a sound. He stopped his humming so he could listen better. Looking around, he saw nothing near by that would cause such a sound. Worriedly, he looked down at the egg.
He leaped to his feet in a panic. There was a crack! A crack that was growing even longer on the egg. It kept growing, branches sprouting out from the main crack.
What's happening? he thought, scared that he had done something wrong. Had he wrapped himself too tightly around the egg? He thought he had been careful!

Indeed, the crack was branching out. Even the branches were branching out, slowly, but surely. The egg made no movement and no sounds. It merely sat there, cracking apart. The jewelry on it began to grow heavy, making the shell have holes in it as the gorgeous items fell right inside of it. Even the long, black spiraling horn on the egg was beginning to fall apart, piece by piece.

Numair was beginning to really panic. Was this a normal thing for an egg to do? Or had he just destroyed the poor thing? His gaze darted about the dark forest. Maybe there was some way he fixed this before it got worse. He hoped. He didn't want the egg to be hurt.

With a slight gust of wind, the cracking egg leaned to the side some, a large chunk falling out of the bottom of it. Then, it rolled over, piece after piece of shell coming off. Finally, when it came to a stop, the mist that hovered around the egg suddenly surrounded it, shielding poor Numair from seeing anything. All that could be heard was the continuous sound of the egg cracking... Nothing more.

Panic reached new heights when Numair caught the egg rolling from the corner of his eye. He turned back to it and watched nervously as the mist hid the egg from view. Crack, crack, crack filled the air, drowning out all other nightly noises in Numair's mind. All that concerned him was the egg that slowly broke apart beneath the mist.
Please be all right, little one, he prayed, not wanting to see harm come to the egg.

Minute after minute passed by, and the cracking seemed to continue on for forever. The mist wavered about and hid everything, except for the cracking sounds. They filled the air like fireworks, continuously sounding off. Eventually, however, the cracking stopped, and no other sounds could be heard. The mist continued to hover around the egg, simply protecting it from the outside world now.

Numair unconsciously kneaded at the ground with his front paws as he listened to the cracking sounds, worry surging through him. What did all this noise mean? Did the egg get hurt somehow? He hadn't seen anything around that might harm the egg. There weren't even any dangerous beasts around, or at least, none had showed themselves yet.
Tentatively, he stepped closer to the egg when the sounds stopped. He blew at the mist, wanting to see what lay hidden within it.

Just a little bit of air was all the mist needed to clear away. As soon as Numair blew at the purple mist, it simply drifted into nothingness, completely dissipating into thin air. Where the egg had been sitting, rocking back and forth, and cracking away, was now some sort of black and purple... Filly.
The jewelry that once covered the egg was now upon her, sparkling in the same way it had before. Purple-white, glowing eyes looked about, eventually reaching Numair. The filly blinked some, trying to figure things out for herself. After a few minutes, a small smile came about her face, a beautiful thought coming only moments afterwards.
Daddy.
