Ness propped a few pillows around her and reached over the side of the basket for one of the blankets. She tucked Liang in. She took the brush and put it up in a safe place for next time. She wished she had tried to help her look earlier.
Still, Ness was feeling like quite the hero. She felt happy to have come to this little girl's aid. Well, she could see that Liang wasn't so little anymore. She would soon grow up. In her heart, Ness felt excited to take her home. Finding out where she lived.. meeting her family.. what a great adventure...
Ness crawled back to the basket. She laid on the other side of it sliding down beneath a pile of pillows surrounding herself with comfort.

While normally Liǎng Yí would never have let herself appear vulnerable to a stranger. But this oneesan was nice, and gave her cocoa. Moreover, she was tired. Playing hide-and-seek had been tiring, and after being lost, and the search for the hairbrush, she needed a nap, at least. Just a few minutes, and she would be fine...
Meanwhile, in the distance, a shouting voice could be heard. It was unidentifiable at first, and the words blurred into incoherency, but as the source approached it was easier to make them out. Understanding them was another story.
"Olly-olly-oxen-free!"
Twilight ran frantically, checking in every tree, behind every rock, and under every mushroom. "Come on, Liǎng Yí! That's the code remember? Come out!" He yelled as loudly as he could, desperation evident in his voice. "Please!"

Ness sat up. She could have sworn she heard Twilight's voice. But, then it was again. Maybe she wasn't so crazy. She fluttered over to a window. Sure enough.. there he was... running around right before the crack of dawn...
And, did he just say teh name of the little pup with her? Why was he looking for her? She decided to quietly slip outside. Fluttering softly up to his side, she gave a gentle lick at the side of his face. "Hey stranger... can you keep your voice down? I have a little buddy snoozing in my house. You're gonna wake her up. I need her to get her rest. I gotta take her home when the sun comes up."
She let go of him backing up while allowing her tail to linger, wrapped softly around his ankle.

For several seconds, Twilight was too puzzled by the appearance of Ness, when he'd been looking for someone else, to comment. Then he grinned, in spite of his worry. Now that he thought about it, he had been wandering close to her house. Maybe his subconscious was trying to tell him something.
"Sorry," he whispered. "I'm just looking for someone. Have you seen her? Little girl, pink hair and tail, some weird shirt and hat..." Twilight may have had good intentions, but in his frazzled state he was not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Almost as an afterthought, he took a step closer to her, wrapping one arm around her shoulders. "Though I can't say I'm not happy with who I found instead."

The feel of his gaze and the comfort of his hold as he held around her shoulders. It was calm. Not the unsettling kind of restless calm that drove her to go pleasure seeking. It was a calm that felt like a numa could live their whole life in that one moment. Like the comfort of a warm bath, or a toasted marshmallow.
She thought about it. She gave an incredulous stare and a grin with no end plastered itself on her face. "Well... by the great swan... it just so happens... that might be the very young lady who is asleep in my pillowy bed right this moment. I found her roaming the riverbanks last night. I was gonna take her home in the morning..."
She wrapped her arms underneath his and snugged herself up close, her tail wrapping itself further back and all around his tail. "Why.. don't you come in then? And, we can go talk quietly till she wakes up?"

"Really!?" Twilight all but shouted, before remembering to keep quiet. Eyes wide, he clapped a paw over his mouth, then said in a whisper "Sorry! But... wow, that's great. Thank you! I was so worried about her..." He let out a breath that he hadn't been aware he'd been holding.
Looking closer, it was easy to tell that he'd been searching frantically. His fur was slightly damp- possibly from searching a river- and ruffled, tufts sticking out in all directions. There were a few leaves and twigs stuck in it as well. But he didn't seem to care at that moment. If Ness was taking care of it, than everything would be okay.
Nodding, Twilight squeezed her shoulder. "That sounds good. I could use a rest myself."

Her smile turned into positively beaming. Though the sun still had yet to rise just in maybe an hour or two, she was all lit up. The tiredness she had felt only a short while ago had passed. It was like someone had popped freshly charged batteries into her.
"Yes! Please... come with me... Take advantage of my hospitality. It makes me happy to have you here... I will be so glad to take care of you... and make you feel at ease. Liang is fine. We played some games last night. I was going to take her home at first light. You can take her later on after you both are well rested, clean, and fed. Is that ok?"
Even as she said it, her heart beat against her chest. She didn't really even want him to go home at all. She just wanted him to stay there. So then, all she could try for at that moment... not to worry about the end of his visit.. Moreover, she had to keep him.. for how much she could... right then. She clasped her hand into his to gently tug and pull him into her cottage.

Starting to relax at last, Twilight let his expression turn positively shocked. "I would never want to take advantage of you!" he gasped, only half jokingly. "However, I could never turn down such an inviting invitation." After running around looking for hours, he was ready to crash.
"You played games?" he asked, somewhat warily. With all the games he'd played with Liǎng Yí, she'd been a bit overly competitive. Not that he'd ever say so, but she sometimes took the joy out of playing. Still, since Ness wasn't saying any more, maybe the pup had behaved herself.
There was no need to worry about that for the moment anyway. He definitely owed Ness a favor for looking after the little one. But moreover, he'd missed her. Showing up randomly indicated he'd missed her more than he really knew.

Ness clung to his arm leading him in. Once indoors, she got a blanket for him and wrapped him up in it. She tried to dry him off and make him comfy, and randomly giving him cuddles or nuzzling here and there. It would be an understatement to say she was delighted he was back visiting her again.
After she had helped him get comfy, she brought more pillows and blankets and made everything super comfortable. She watched him with soft and happy eyes. "I missed you. a lot..." She smiled softly as she tried to make him at home. Her let off a soft consistent purr.
In her heart, she began to thank the swan that she had come across Liang that evening. It was such a blessing that she hadn't known it. She had just taken the girl in out of some random spontaneous maternal instinct. Here it turned up the one numa she was always hoping to find... and he came and found her. Why was it she felt like her house was more of a home when he was there?

Shivering a bit, Twilight snuggled into the blanket, rubbing part of it against his face. It was soft, but not not nearly as soft as Ness was... not that he felt like saying that at the moment.
Sure enough, there was Liǎng Yí, fast asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he just peeked to make sure he was okay before making himself comfortable in the giant mound of bedding. She would be asleep for a while, and after all that looking, he felt that he deserved a little bit of a break.
"I missed you too," Twilight replied, wrapping his arms around her. "I'm sorry if I haven't been by in a while. I've sort of been enlisted as a babysitter. And... well, Liǎng Yí's cute and all, but I can't play the same things with her as I can with you."

As his arm made its way around her, her eyes glazed over. Her beathing slowed and came in deep tempered streams. Deep inside, a feeling she felt before, but never so strong made its way.
In that moment, she forgot about being in her house. She forgot all about the babysitting. She forgot about friends she hadn't seen in a long time or ones who she had fallen out with. She was even forgetting about the taste of ice cream and how much she loved it. For a brief moment, the only thing that flicked around in that tomboy brain of hers was sitting in the company of someone who was important to her.
Deeper still, she knew she had always held majority of friends at bay. She had always been deeply afraid of opening herself up emotionally to others for a deep rooted fear of both rejection and the pain of them leaving. She never wanted to care for someone who wouldn't share her feelings. She didn't wanna just make a fool of herself. Yet in this moment, her fears were quelled. She didn't feel them nagging at her. It was calm and appeasing.
After that feeling calmed down a little, she decided to be brave and give things a chance. What would he say if she expressed such deeper feelings? Would it chase him away? She just didn't know. She thought it was only fair to maybe do better by him than she had to others. If.. just if... he liked her even half as much... maybe it would be worth it....
"I'm glad then. Absence makes the heart grow fonder some tell me. Though I have to wonder if fondness would satisfy me; but I guess I would be happy if it is true." She closed her eyes and leaned herself against him. Her camoflauged hair drifting against his body.
