Bryna floated amongst the cieling beams of the HQ cabin, boredly watching the goings on below... or lack there of in this case. She wanted something new to do today, and she'd floated all the way up here from the Fierra Place in Realm in search of it... and all she'd gotten so far was an empty room.
Maybe she should have gone out and played tag with Shoom today. She wanted to go to paintball, but it was the wrong day of the week for that. They only played on Fridays. She supposed she could go out and follow foxes or scare fish or something but that just didn't seem appealing today.
She was going to give it five more minutes... surely something had to happen in the next five minutes? Either that or the silver-haired Nobody girl and her arm-socks were going out to find something else to do.

Her father had once told her that she was very much like a crane standing amidst a flock of chickens - not a particularly promising feature for the heir to a Wutaian empire and an even less favorable trait in a petty thief. She had retaliated with the obvious point that chickens were ugly, brainless little wastes of feathers, and that if she was going to be a bird above it all, at least she wasn't something that other people regularly ate for lunch.
It admittedly hadn't been the snappy rejoinder she'd been aiming for, but it had prompted a remarkable shouting match that had involved a lot of name calling and impressively long strings of expletives before abruptly ending with her being disinherited for the second time that year. All in all, Yuffie Kisaragi counted it as a victory, despite the whole embarrassing poultry fiasco. But, really, who the hell compared their offspring to a chicken anyhow? She distinctly remembered bringing that point up during their argument, although in accusing him of rooster-like qualities, she might have used a less savory synonym. Oh well, his loss. It wasn't like he had another successor to dump Wutai on, and during the time it took him to cool down and realize that, she could do whatever she wanted.
The temporarily disowned princess was currently practicing balancing a marble of materia on her nose, completely and utterly bored out of her gourd. All of the kitsusagi she'd spied so far had pretty much nothing on them worth her time, let alone her impeccable thieving skills. Pfft. Mountain people. Can't even have the common decency to carry something valuable on them at all times. Though maybe she was just in the wrong area? She wasn't in Wutai anymore, and it was fairly easy to get lost when nearly everything looked the same.
Not that she was lost, of course. It was impossible to get lost when she wasn't aiming to arrive anywhere in particular. The building that appeared ahead of her looked promising though, even if it didn't really hold up to her own idea of architecture. It looked like someone had felled a bunch of trees and then arranged them into a vaguely box-like shape, slapping a door and some windows on for aesthetic appeal. It was as impressive as it was hideous. She liked it immediately.
The thief walked directly up to the door, seemingly careless but wholly prepared for whatever was on the other side as she flipped her bead of materia into the air and expertly caught it in her pocket. Yuffie nosed the barricade open, one grey eye peering experimentally in. Well, it didn't look like anyone was at home... even so, something twinged against her senses, and she continued to give a more thorough search before she spied a shock of silver discrepancy occupying a spot on the ceiling.
... Okay. That's new.

Bryna noticed the door opening; she'd been watching it the entire time waiting for someone to come in, after all. Golden orbs peered down as the newcomer examined the room rather thoroughly, ears flicking forward through her curly silver tresses when she sensed that she'd been spotted.
That she'd been spotted in and of itself caught her attention. Not many people tended to examine the ceiling for some reason, in spite of how many winged kitsusagi drifted around. And it wasn't beyond imagining that someone examining said cieling would be beyond some form of at least mild surprise at seeing her black-clad, silver haired and tailed self sitting on it upside down. She also wondered briefly from time to time why she didn't have the blood pressure problems most creatures seemed to endure when being upside down for very long, but it passed quickly this time as it usually did.
She tilted her head to the side, hair doing a sort of slow-motion flop to readjust to the "real" gravity that tugged at it from just beyond her form. After a cursory of examination she decided that she liked this new kitsu, at least for now. Her style of clothing was appealing to the Nobody.
"Hello." It wasn't much of a greeting, but Bryna also had yet to feel the impulse to be particularly talkative. This was one of those times when that particular urge was going to take a few moments.

It took a bit of effort to refrain from twisting her head to stare at the girl hanging bat-like from a corner, a little curious about the angle and the apparent ease with which she maintained her roosting position. The hair thing was weird too. Did hair normally do that? Hers sure didn't, although it would have made styling a hell of a lot easier.
"Uh, hey," She returned with a note of caution, making certain nothing else occupied the room before stepping further in and taking a better look at just how the other kitsu was remaining suspended. She didn't see any wires, no cleverly hidden grooves where she could have tucked in the toes of her paws and held on for dear life. And from the looks of it, the platinum-haired acrobat had been hanging there for quite some time, possibly counting cobwebs or looking for compromised boards that would leak in the rainy season. She had certainly looked bored enough to have been assigned to either job when the thief had first caught sight of her.
"Would this happen one of those bizarro dimensional tear things where up is down and left is right and I'm an irresistibly sexy blonde bombshell with endowments large enough to shame models and mountains alike?" Not that she really gave a damn about that sort of thing, shaming, that is. Although models really needed to come down a notch and mountains were a little too high and mighty for her tastes.
Reel the thoughts back, Yuffie... She could almost hear her father admonishing her, about to spew some ancient proverb that she would then proceed to rip apart without much difficulty. Screw him. He could go sit on his porcelain tea cups and drink his toady water or whatever.

Bryna couldn't help a cursory scan of the other's surface thoughts, and pondered if she had any idea how close she'd come to the truth with the bit about the cobwebs and boards. She'd sort of been doing a combination of the two... counting knotholes. That got old after the second circuit.
"Well... I'm pretty sure this is up and that's down, and you're not blonde. I can't say for sure about the left and right bit." She detached herself from the nook she'd been occupying and flipped upright before floating down to suspend herself just above the floor. "I just have a talent for defying gravity. Why'd you look up, anyway? People don't usually look up."
After a brief moment of what was either thought or an utter lack thereof Bryna wiggled her forelegs at Yuffie. "I'm Bryna. Do you like my arm-socks? Your clothes are nice."

The whole floating a few inches above the floor thing confirmed for her that a technique other than visual trickery was at work, though what else it could have been was still up in the air, right alongside the curiosity herself. Yuffie grinned a little at the verbal response, glad that the other wasn't as reserved as her initial welcome might have implied. She was really, really sick of aloofness and self-pitying tragedy and whatever else the kitsu at her replacement home decided to reenact. Not that it wasn't fun to puncture whatever remained of their collective egos with a few choice words. It just lost its luster if she forgot to drop back and recharge for a time.
The question surprised her for a moment before she shrugged in just such a way that even the tips of her tails participated in the fluid movement. "People aren't real bright on the whole. It's like stealth one-oh-one besides, and you don't get through shinobi training if someone drops down from the roof and slices your nose in half or whatever. Although I have to say being able to ignore gravity is wicked cool. If I could do that, I would be a damn ninja queen."
Not that she wouldn't be even without the ability; it just would have been a neat addition.
Yuffie aimed a lopsided grin at the wiggling display, unable to help the giggle rising in her chest. "Kisaragi Yuffie. But you can just call me Yuffie." She replied, glancing down at her own attire before returning her gaze to the other female. "Thanks. Arm socks are fun, but I really like your coat - I know this weepy jackass who wears one a lot like it, actually. You guys must shop at the same place or something. His hair's silver too, come to think of it. I don't know what the hell color his eyes are..."

Bryna's eyes got a bit wider at the mention of shinobi training and Yuffie being a ninja queen. "Oooh. You're a ninja? Ninjas are awesome! Almost as awesome as my dad." Ah yes, Bryna had a rather high opinion of her father. And her mom, and her sister Kestrel and her brother Revelin. She hadn't actually met her other sister yet, but she'd heard Dahlia was nothing short of unpleasant so that didn't bother her.
And the giggle didn't bother her. It pleased her, in fact. Happy people were so much more fun to deal with. As Yuffie seemed to know all too well if her commentary following the compliment to her own choice of clothing was any indication. "My dad wears a coat a lot like this, but his has sleeves and he doesn't have armsocks. All my dad's old friends wear them, too. A couple of the others have silver hair... I get mine from my mom, though, and I'm the only one that has all silver hair. My sisters and my brother all have mostly black hair."
Her mentioning not knowing what color his eyes were made her curious, though... since she'd sort of invaded Atae's privacy and found out about that Riku guy. "Why don't you know what color that guys eyes are?" It would be kinda neat if she could find out how to find Riku so she could tell Atae, though. Atae worried after her thoughts on him like a dog with a bone sometimes. It made Bryna think that maybe it was ok that she didn't feel most of the time, because Atae did enough feeling and worrying and such for the both of them more often than not.

Unable to contain the pride in her own upbringing and disregarding the matter of her father being an utter duckbutt, Yuffie gave a stately nod that was quickly followed by a wink. "Yup. Official and everything. My old man rules over a whole village full of 'em... not me though. If he wants to order me around, he has another thing coming." She pondered exactly what that other thing might have been for approximately two seconds before returning her focus to Bryna. She could always come up with something suitably sneaky and nasty later.
She tilted her head thoughtfully at the mention of sleeves, unable to help the implausibility that slipped into her considerations. Did Riku actually have kids? He hadn't seemed old enough, let alone geared toward the fine art of babymaking. Still, there was a striking resemblance between the stoic male and the amber-eyed Bryna, too much for it all to be a coincidence. Maybe another brother then? Or one of those 'friends' she had mentioned, though the thought of him sticking around long enough to make even the barest of acquaintances was unlikely.
That and the other's interest was obvious. Weird.
"'Cause his head's shoved so far up his a** that it's impossible to tell." She answered flippantly, waving one paw a little as though dismissing him though he was nowhere in sight. "I only met him twice-" At least that he knew of, "And he was really mopey both times, all depressing and leathery and supple voiced like he's lived a thousand lives and he was a loser in each and every one of them."
It took her a moment to wind down, the very idea of him chafing to her mood. Was it really so damn hard to be happy? It had to be easier than being absolutely miserable into eternity. Yuffie took a breath and snorted it out before adding. "He wears a blindfold, but I don't think he has any trouble seeing. It's probably just an accessory that accentuates his 'why bother' and 'woe is me' attitude."

Bryna grinned, both at Yuffie's bragging about her ninja heritage and the "duckbutt" thought. She was going to have to use that one on someone sometime soon, seriously. "My dad manipulates gravity and teleports and my mom has wings and telepathy and healing powers and stuff." She'd gotten the general impression that telling people that her mom had the ability to suck people's souls out through their mouths if they pissed her off wasn't a good idea. "I got mostly Dad's powers but I can do the telepathy thing too. And I didn't get wings but I don't really need them." She had to prove she was awesome too. It was only fair.
Bryna's only comment on the head up the a** bit was, "People can bend like that?" It was followed by an odd face as she listened to the rest of her mini-rant. "...He sounds like he needs some sense beat into him." Like Endless. Except Endless responded to a verbal beating, and this guy might not.
The mention of the blindfold confirmed her suspicions however. "Riku! My friend at home has met him a couple of times too. She's been wondering after him, I guess I can tell her he's still around... or... maybe not. I only know she's met him because I was looking into her private things, she'd probably get mad at me..." Insert sweatdrop and shifty eyes here.

Yuffie was torn between her desire to outshine the silver-haired female's boasting and a curiosity that had been piqued by mention of telepathy. She predictably settled for satisfying a bit of both. "My mom was one of Wutai's greatest warriors, everybody says I'm just like her." When they weren't accusing her of stealing sacred heirlooms or pretending to have a seizure during the tea ceremony. Really, she'd just been rolling her eyes repeatedly at the stupid things they'd tried to make her learn, and if that innocent act of teenage rebellion had made it look like she was having some sort of fit, all the better to make her point. Yuffie Kisaragi did not pour tea and cast her eyes demurely to the floor, she did not smile delicately when complimented and speak so softly that people had to practically sit in her lap to hear what she had to say. "She created a ton of stealth techniques, and she taught each and every one of them to me. Nothing like telepathy though, that's really weird. Hey, hey, what am I thinking of right now?"
The thief concentrated fiercely, envisioning... well, nothing for a minute, apparently her brain had a momentary sputter of stage fright. Omigawd, Yuffie's dancing around with no clothes on! But that quickly passed and she managed to find something slightly more respectable to think of: the little orange pea of materia in her pocket, the one she'd carted all the way from her homeland.
"I think he just cut his head off and shoved it right up there to save time," The princess reluctantly returned to the subject of one of her least favorite people, though her tone seemed almost cheerful when imbued with mockery. "And yeah, he probably does, although I doubt it'd help. Ol' Tall, Dark, and Anguish doesn't seem like the type to reform because of one good spanking." Maybe a series of spankings though? Not that she would have applied for that job - there probably would have been a damn waitlist and a line going out into the street.
"She wondering how to get him to stop being an asshat?" The ninja questioned with a friendly flash of teeth. "'Cause, lemme tell you, I'd pay money to see it done... someone else's money, naturally, but the principle's the same. Besides, she can't be all that mad if you're helping her out, right?" That didn't seem entirely reasonable; then again, if this chick was trying to get chummy with the unofficial king of dreary depression, nothing she did forever afterwards would have seemed reasonable.

Bryna's ears flicked up at the mention of Yuffie's mother and the stealth techniques. Her new acquaintace was proving more and more fun by the minute. <3 When asked to read Yuffie's thoughts Bryna also willingly obliged, catching the dancing bit and furrowing her brows confusedly for a moment - Yuffie looked clothed to her - before the materia was revealed to her. So she looked toward Yuffie's pocket and made it float up out of her pocket and hover in front of her nose. "You were thinking about that. And naked dancing."
As Yuffie continued even Bryna began to wonder why Atae was so concerned about this Riku person... but then again, Atae, simply put, was a complete sweetheart. The fact that she was an empath probably just made it worse. "Eh, I guess it seems unreasonable. Probably has something to do with her empathy though. Those emotional types seem drawn to one another."

The on-again, off-again mugger watched with some surprise as her materia was handled, her ears flicking back at its removal from the linty safety of her shorts even though she sincerely doubted Bryna had any intention of actually swiping it. Regardless, she stretched her neck to seize the glimmering bead between her teeth, catching a taste of zero gravity even as she manipulated it with her tiny pink tongue and turned her head to spit it back into the pocket of her khaki attire. There, back where it belonged, possibly with the addition of a little saliva.
"You weren't supposed to see that one nudie bit," She murmured, embarrassed for the flash of a millisecond before her lively smile was back. "But you really do read minds. That's so extremely awesome; ever thought about listening in on where people store their valuables? We could make a friggin' fortune... I don't suppose there's a whole lot of materia in this area though, huh?" Lame.
Mention of empathy caused Yuffie to raise an eyebrow, the concept of it almost entirely foreign to her - or at the very least, the exercise of it. After all, what use did empathy have when she was beating the tar out of some stuffy diplomat who had wandered from the main road, enthusiastically divesting him of everything but his underthings if he was lucky? Emotions. Pfft. Completely overrated. Unless they were hers, they really didn't count for much.

Bryna watched Yuffie retrieve the materia with total indifference; being a Nobody helped with things like that. And really, if she'd wanted to take it... she could have just teleported it into her own pocket. She wondered idly if the ninja/thief would even have noticed then.
"I started looking when you said, so I saw it." Shrug. "And... well, I never really thought about it, but yeah, I could do that." She tilted her head at the mention of materia. "Materia... I don't know. I seem to remember something about people who used materia... not sure if they still have any. Probably one of Kitsyn's stray thoughts. Something about some guy with spiky blonde hair and a big sword."
Empathy was totally foreign to Bryna aside from knowing that Atae had it, but for rather less selfish reasons. She simply wasn't capable of it. Though divesting someone of even their underthings was an amusing thought. "Atae has empathy the way I have telepathy. Reading emotions. It doesn't work all the time, though, so I gotta figure mine is a lot more useful."

The kitsu's trio of black tails gave a flip of anticipation, pleased at the prospect of a partner in crime even though she was doing quite well on her own. Obviously. Ninja princesses weren't as helpless as the regular kind, and her skills were nothing short of spectacular (her own opinion) despite the drawbacks of still being a teenager with no focus (everyone else's opinion, and they could damn well choke on it.) Still, mind-reading wasn't something she'd picked up, and it wasn't something she could very well steal... at least she didn't think so. Bryna probably wouldn't have appreciated any attempts on her part either.
"I could take him, with or without a big sword," Yuffie replied loftily, wishing she had a wicked cool pose to strike that would go along with the bravado. "Materia is just that good. Plus I'd bet he's some sorta wimp anyway - probably spends more time tossing gunky products into his hair than fighting." She honestly had no idea how this near-hypothetical blonde acted, but it was fun to say and even more enjoyable to imagine him managing his tresses in the midst of some epic battle scene. He probably had his chest and lower extremities waxed too. Pansy.
The thief tilted her head when the silver-haired, soon-to-be-apprentice mentioned exactly what empathy implied, her impish face tugging into an expression of disapproval. Honestly, if kitsu were going to run around with supernatural powers, couldn't they pick something neat-o like Bryna's abilities? "Seriously." She murmured, agreeing with her acquaintance's judgment on the matter. "I bet she has really awful Mom Syndrome too, huh? Coddling and kissing boo-boos and generally making everyone want to jump off a cliff. No wonder she likes Sir Regretful-a-lot."

Bryna wasn't particularly interested in Cloud or his hairgel... though she was curious about this materia thing now. "What does materia do? I never really... heard much about it." Head tilt.
"Well Atae couldn't really pick what sort of ability she got." Bryna shrugged. "Oh wait, was I supposed to stop listening to your thoughts?" That was actually just to cover up her slip... she'd kept listening just because she could and Yuffie hadn't technically told her to stop yet. Yeah. >> Still... "But... no... she's really not a very touchy-feely type. Standoffish more than anything. It's kinda funny how akward she gets when someone gives her a hug." But... time to change the subject. Yuffie didn't like talking about Riku, and Bryna... didn't want to let bad things be said about Atae.
