Your rambling wasn't that long, it was actually pretty short for me because my own rambling is alot worse and I have to deal with myself every day. razz
I'm an atheist from a Catholic family too. Maybe I just have a rebellious nature or something, but when I was younger I used to go to Catholic school once a week every week after school and I never really agreed with what they were teaching and was offended when my teachers said that anyone who didn't believe in Jesus/God would go to "Hell". I basically stopped believing in God when I stopped believing in Satan Clause (when I was about seven), even though I didn't really talk about it until I was twelve. I've looked into other religions, and I think a lot of them are really interesting but I don't really believe in any of the religious stuff (like reincarnation, souls, or the prophets or Gods or rituals or whatever), I do agree with a lot of the morals though. But even though I'm atheist, I seem more religious than most people. I basically just consider the Earth and the universe to be "upper powers" because they're so much greater than we are, and if we don't respect the Earth then we're going to destroy ourselves. There are a lot of "normal" unnatural things that I don't do, and I consider driving in the rain to be blasphemy. I avoid killing things too, even bugs and plants, and because of that I also try to avoid over eating and I fast sometimes too.

Well... I was just a basic christian. Read the bible, prayed, tried to spread his word...

And then I realized how bad the world was, and how the bible mentions very little of Science. I realized if the was a God, he wouldn't need worshipping. If he loved his creations, he wouldn't confuse us with different religions and wouldn't condemn those confused to Hell. If God was forgiving, he wouldn't punish all the woman on the Earth with labor pains and periods for what Eve did. If there was a loving God, he wouldn't have handed the world of to Satan. Or if he didn't, he wouldn't have had the world become incapitated with hate and darkness.

Along with that, common concepts of the bible go against PROOF. Like the bible doesn't contain anything about dinosaurs. It says nothing of evolution. It says God created the universe, but I don't beleive that...

So... as you can see, many things made me think christianity is bad.

(i know you said that you became a Christian again but I have to clear up so things.)
I'm a Christian. Don't hate me just yet (or judge whatever you think).
The whole if there is a God then why is there bad junk happening in the world and if there is a God then why don't He just clean up the junk...

God gave us free will. Do you really want to be forced to do everything God tells you to do? That is the beauty of free will.

The Adam and Eve thing... You believe living with your consequences? Well Adam and Eve had to live with theirs. Then it was passed on from generation to generation.

Also I believe Catholism gives Christanity a bad name (now I'm going to get hate messages sweatdrop ) Christanity is NOT like that. Why do we worship God? Well to show our love for Him. Everything has rules and you can't escape from them (food for thought)...

I hope you don't think I was preaching to you or anything. I just wanted to express my beliefs... Thanks!

There is no need for a disclaimer like this, this guild accepts anyone who is willing to respect and tolerate others.

In my experience, this is one of the arguments that starts the 'downward spiral' effect of falling out of Christianity, if you will. After this question, one generally finds a lot more; one such question that can result from this is, how can I know there is a God? And this can further spiral into the idea that a physical action being caused by a nonphysical entity is very a-logical, possibly even illogical.

My problem with this comes from acknowledging that an all knowing Creator does not necessarily control your fate by simply knowing your fate.

In my mind, this seems to go against the idea that God is benevolent and merciful. If he has these qualities and if I was never in the Garden of Eden, why am I to suffer because of Adam and Eve?

This is where you and I will greatly disagree. I am definitely no Christian, but I believe that Catholicism is one of the more truer forms of Christianity around today. And I fail to see how a person who is a good Catholic violates or even gives Christianity a bad name.

I'm a mishmash, there have been times that I've been called an athiest, and I'm definately not having any kind of faith in something undefined that watches over me so I've called myself an athiest before as well, but really. I don't think I could be athiest ever.

Personally, the mishmash spirtuality I follow takes bits and pieces of all things because I believe in a universal truth to the things that others believe in. Unfortunately that gets muddled through translation and recitation through the ages. I believe in souls, rebirth, and karma. I also consider myself an empath. To me, there aren't spirits left in the world to haunt, so much as an imprint on the plane of existance left over from what they were. Intent, lifetime emotions and memories combine to form what other people see as spirits. But that's just me. : P Maybe a spiritual athiest if I am one,

That's sort of where I sat when I was younger. Then I finally got myself educated and found a religious system that for the most part already fit what I believed. xd
