Oh I can understand that completely. I come from a town of about 15,000, and still everyone knows everything about people. I dislike feeling like I have to settle for the synagogue downtown, even though there isn't much wrong with it, I like having a large variety. I don't like the lack of public transportation, and things of that nature. And Kosher food is so difficult to find in groceries stores, I could make a very interesting scavenger game out of every trip.
I do, however, live in a well enough populated area of Arkansas where I'm used to gridlock traffic and the homeless. No where near the magnitude of Chicago or NYC, I'm sure, but I wasn't raised under a boulder, just a good sized rock.
As for the whole divorce thing, I think DarkHalcyon is right in a way. The way I am effected by the divorce rate is really making me think twice about rushing in to a relationship, but I wouldn't pass up marital bliss just because of it or anything.
Divorce isn't more acessicible than it was 40 years ago, it's just more common nowadays, if that makes sense. People started caring less and less about what their neighbors thought and got divorces when they were geneuinely unhappy for whatever reason, now people just use it as a back up. "Just in case she turns out to be a nagger" or "If he has an affair" (I'm not saying men are the only ones who cheat, but just as an example)
Westerners are spoiled.
And just a note, I have no vendetta with people who get divorces, because I know there are still people out there who use it for legitiment purposes, it's the King Henry's I have a problem with.

Good old king Henry. The man who made it okay to hang/divorce etc if your wife couldn't pop out a boy-child. As for Divash, I agree with the whole big city thing. Albany is tiny though, compared to NYC. Homeless people still upset me though. I almost always give someone a dollar for the bus ('cause I know how much it sucks when you get to the bus stop with no fare.) But other than that, when I really want to help the homeless or the hungry, I donate to shelters. It must sound terrible, but I don't want the money I give someone to go for a bottle of Mad Dog, Thunderbird or Pythagoras wine. O.o yech.

Well, many of you you might not be familar, but we have a place called Sam's that sells a lot of stuff in bulk, including snacks, etc. I've always thought that would be something nifty to keep in your purse for the homeless. I mean, if they're hungry it will help out, if they aren't, they just got some sweet crackers!

Anything less than that and you may as well drink anti-freeze.
