I started because i kept noticing that all the partys i went to usually ended up with me sitting in front of the woofers and subwoofers. i would just live to feel the vibrations of the bassline barrade my body and it was allways the most amazing feeling ever. It kept me feeling better then sex so i just had to pick it up. I'm not that good i'll admit (i cant read music at all so its a little harder for me, I'm better at tabs and playing by ear) but i'm doing my best to get a good talent for it.

basically i do it just for fun. I started out in my freshman high school year in the orchestra and found my dads old rickenbaker and picked it up. After that i kept on playing and got a few gigs around and it was really growing on me.

to my ears, It sounds better than guitar. alot of the time the guitar sounds whiny and needy. but when a bass is being played, it sound's powerful and controlling.
I also like the feeling of importance. as a part of the rythmn section, the bass ( as we know) is a key player, it would be terrable with out any kind of bass.
an other great thing, is that people really respect good bass players. Alot of bassists at my old high school just kind of played root notes, and maybe a 5th, had bad timing, and wasn't really into it.
Plus its great fun to play.
