wikipedia Hellsing (ヘルシング, Herushingu?) is a manga series by Kouta Hirano. Hellsing chronicles the efforts of the mysterious and secret Royal Order of Protestant Knights, Hellsing, as it combats vampires, ghouls, and other supernatural foes who threaten the kingdom of England. Taken from the manga page but it currently has a unfinished manga series, 13 episode anime and OVA in production.
For discussion of the plot, characters, and anything related.
Hellsing is my favorite series. I've been a longtime Iscariot fan, so the whole group are my favorite characters. The OVA/manga are alot funnier than the first anime series, which was a pleasant surprise considering how dark the series is overall to have any comedy in it.

I love Hellsing.
I have to say though, I was a fan firstly of the Manga. When I saw the anime just a short while after reading all the way up to volume seven, I was very dissapointed. I finished the Anime feeling cheated. It was poorly animated at times and I missed some of the best moments of the manga. I wasn't pleased with the direction it took.
Now Hellsing Ultimate (The OVA that Doll Party is talking about) is FAR superior. The animation quality is brilliant and they actually stick to the story involving Millennium. Far better.
Just my opinions on this though. ^^
Alucard is often denounced as being 'overpowered' as an anime character. What do you think of that, Doll Party?

I'd have to say it makes him a better character. Yeah, sure there's no real chance for any other character to survive, no struggle to beat overwhelming odds or such but if I wanted that I'd go watch Dragonball Z. Or a million other animes. It's a good change for once.
I think part of the appeal of his character is that he is that strong and takes no pains to hide it. I think of how excited he got fighting Luke Valentine when he thought he'd finally found an opponent who could provide an actual challenge. It adds a bit of angst and uniqueness to his character that instead of constantly trying to improve himself (like your standard hero) he's looking for someone strong enough to beat him. More like your standard overlord villain who's at the top of the world waiting for someone to overthrow them. Which, considering his background, fits perfectly. I don't really think an under-powered, struggling to win, Alucard would feel as real as an 'overpowered' one.

I agreee. Alucard is overpowerful, but it suits him best. With alot of hero's you wonder how they're going to overpower the enemy. Here, eventhough you're on Alucard's side, you wonder what the silly enemy is going to try to bring him down.
Anime vs Manga: I wasn't even aware that they were supposed to be the same story. I saw the series first, loved it, then found out about the manga, and borrowed it, and now am collecting it myself because I do love too... more in fact. I can't think of them as being related farther than having simmilar characters. They are completely different stories, and while the characters share names, they are developed slightly differently. I've only seen the first OVA, and it seems closer to the manga, so I do prefer it, but I'll stay a fan of the series.
Random: I am a huge Jan fan. He's my favorite character in the series, and my second favorite in the manga. (Rip Van is my favorite in the manga). I am convinced that the mangaka based Jan after himself. I think I almost enjoy his comments and notes at the end of the mangas more than the manga's themselves.
