Why are these expected by society? What does it really prove? Can't a woman pick up the check if she says, "Hey! Lets go out to dinner!" Wouldn't that be right? It wasn't your idea, you may have been planning to make her a delicious dinner, but you have to pick up the bill.

I like guys to do those nice things for me sometimes, just because they are nice to do. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally ok with splinting the bill, or paying myself if I'm the one that did the asking; and I'm perfectly capable of pulling out my own chair and opening the door. It's never a requirement to do that kind of stuff, but it's a nice reminder that chivalry isn't dead.
Relationships are about compromise and give and take, so just talk about it. Some girls get really annoyed with guys that pull out chairs, open doors, and always insist on paying, others like it. But if you talk about it then you can work out something that works for both of you.
